Do you ever show your CCW when asked for photo ID?

I tend to agree, Aaron. That you'd be treated poorly given a little piece of paper and plastic in your wallet is idiotic.

Part of the whole anti-gun thing is what psychologists refer to as "magical thinking" a segment of the population cannot separate guns from murder, and thus every gun is (to them) a murder waiting to happen. It is silly, and illogical, and because of this no reasoned or logical response is accepted. It doesn't matter that 'murcans fire 10odd BILLION rounds a year, and only 8k or so result in a murder, GUNS KILL SO ALL GUNWIELDERS ARE LATENT KILLERS. or something like that. I'm fortunate that there aren't any of those in my current workplace. Not even my Vegan former boss was that bad.

He apologized to me and assured me that my CWL was acceptable ID.

I never raised my voice or cursed at the teller and faux manager,,,
And some people would say I over reacted to the snub,,,
But I felt I acted quite appropriately.

I still bank there as I have my mortgage through them,,,
I received a letter assuring me it wouldn't again.

That's pretty much what I would do. Doesn't really matter to me where my accounts are.

I kind of want to start using my CCW as ID when buying alcohol because it is a state issued picture ID but doesn't have a barcode they can scan like the DL does (we won't go there in this thread). I've only used it once I think and I don't remember what it was for.

Quite a bit actually. My DL picture looks nothing like me, where my CHL looks just like me. People look at the DL with questions but never the CHL. I guess its because it's Texas, no one is surprised. ;)

Interesting you should say this...I looked at my CCW permit when I first read this string, and it's virtually identical in format to the SC DL format. In fact, it's the SAME picture that's on my SC DL. Same bar across the top (different color), same picture, same personal information...AND the same kind of 2D barcode on the back. Minor differences such as the watermark and such. But that's it.

It's an official state issued CCW identification permit.

Last I saw Texas was near the bottom of the list for % of the population licensed to carry.

I teach adults in Detroit. I ask my classes who among them have their CCW/CPLs. Always some do, and I offer to e-mail the others who request it information on how they can qualify for one. That I carry when and where legal is no secret since I am essentially proselytizing for concealed (or open) carry.

Once at a bank, when asked for a "state issued photo ID," I produced my CPL, but was told that that ID "must be in the form of a driver's licence." Other than commenting that if that were so, then they should have said so in the first place, I simple went along with their request.

Being forthright about licensed/permitted to carry is not necessarily for shock value or to show off — although I concede that for some it is.

Whie we are describing cards....

My Tennessee Driver License TDL is landscape mode (longwise).
My Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit THCP is portrait mode (tallwise).
Both carry the same number. I elected to use my TDL photo on file for my THCP photo. Both are laminated with holographic security seals. When the police run TDL they get back THCP status, so no need to inform on a traffic stop. (If traveling, I must check the latest updates on need to inform on traffic stop in other states.)

I was asked for a photo ID at a bank and proceeded to lay my cwp on the counter. The female teller got a look on her face like I just let a huge stinky f@rt and asked if I had anything else. I said fine, but that's a state issued photo id just so you know. In one ear out the other I'm sure...

At Godfather's

I show my carry permit at my local Godfather's since they give me a 10% if I have one. More like the way it oughta be.

Is this a problem you run into often?

More often lately than usual. Recently when standing in line to buy my hunting/fishing license the guy at the counter asked the man in front of me for the his driver's license to process his hunting license. The customer then proceeded to give the clerk his carry permit instead. The clerk then asked to see his driver's license instead. The guy got all puffy about it and said it was just as good. The clerk had to explain that he needed to make sure he had the correct number of his driver's license, the one on his carry permit could be different. That is why he asked for the D.L. first to skip that complication. The customer then practically threw his D.L. at the clerk who ignored the attitude and proceeded to process his hunting license. What a D-Bag.

To me that sort of crap is so unnecessary. If they ask for your driver's license, or are obviously expecting a D.L., hand over your driver's license instead of trying to be a show off with your carry permit. What do people have to gain by pulling out their carry permit instead? Do you get a discount or something? It is just unnecessary showmanship.

I used mine at the bank a couple weeks ago when cashing a check.
It's the first thing in my wallet.

Really, no big deal.

A number of times I hear, "I want to get my carry license but I don't know how".
I usually invite the person (mostly women) to my range for free shooting lessons. :)

See the "Taking the Ladies to the Range" thread.

yes, They want two picture ID's now, at some financial institutions. I don't have any other 2.

No. I could, but why? The only person who has a legitimate need tin see my concealed carry license is a police officer during an official communication, and only when I am actually carrying.

Those who whip it out for "shock value" are just plain immature, IMHO.

Especially in a hotel, where several staff members have access to your room 24/7, why advertise that you may have a firearm? What is the purpose of showing your CCW license to every Tom, Dick, Harry and Sally you come across?

Concealed carrying goes hand in hand with keeping a low profile. When traveling overseas on official duty, I did not show my military ID or my military passport or travel orders. The hotel clerk does not need to know that much about me.

Using it because its the only form of photo ID you have access to... that's different.
This is exacty how I feel about this matter. Zero upside to advertising that you carry, but plenty of potential downside.

I did one time because my DL had expired. I was told it was not a proper form of id and they wouldn't even let buy a pack of cigerettes.

Burning future bridges at a hotel by raising our profiles leaves us vulnerable to not only hidden, dirty tricks by hotel staff as stated above, but somebody could notice what car we drive. I'm in hotels very often.

Staff screw up with regular guests who use only a driver's license.
Imagine the 'mistakenly set' wake-up calls, or just extra charges on a bill if we rub people the wrong way, or staff book a reservation which you never intended to make.

They can even check drunken guests, i.e. drunk college girls into the next room on purpose. It's really hard or impossible to change rooms at 0100.

I almost did here in Ohio picking up a prescription, but like most of you, need to know only. Yes Ohio has a card with picture and its easily grabbed by mistake, I look carefully every time.......
