I have a sort of friend, who is a total 1911 snob. We went shooting at his Dad's farm yesterday. I brought 3 of my guns with me, My EAA Witness .45 fullsize, my Astra A-75, and my 4" DW Model 15-2 .357. He brought his Kimber .45, his high buck .40 1911, and his Python 357 (an early blued one).
He thinks no other semiauto handgun is worth buying. Either it's going to be innaccurate, "won't last", or it's just plain "junk". I don't like the grip shape/angle on a 1911, it doesn't fit my hand! According to my friend, it's "psychological", the 1911 grip is "perfection". A CZ type grip does feel right to me though. That's one of the reasons why I bought my .45 Witness, and not a Kimber/Ed Brown/SA/etc, etc for 4-5 times what the witness costs. It's funny to see his almost $2000 "fantastic weapon" hang up repeatedly when shooting the same ammo my "junk" Witness saws through without a hitch. His excuses range from, "I was limp wristing it", to, "It's not broken in yet!", to "It's the cheap ammo we are shooting!"
My Witness and his big buck Kimber 1911 were bought about the same time, and both have upwards of 1000 rounds through them as of yesterday. My gun has had zero misfires, F2Fs, or anything else, his Kimber rarely makes it though an entire magazine without some issue. The only problem my gun ever had was the mag had to be slammed in pretty hard, or it would pop out on the first shot when it was new. A dozen or so insertions and removals cured that problem easily. He calls my Astra A-75 "crap", but it will shoot everything I put in it, unlike his .40 1911 (Can't remember the name on it, but it was at least 5X the price I paid for the A-75, and it's 100% reliable, unlike ANY of his half dozen 1911s.
As far as revolvers go, he thinks only a Korth, and a Colt Python are good enough. My Dan Wessons are "junk", but they never have any issues, are amazingly accurate, and can be repaired by myself, in seconds if a spring or something would break, unlike his Python, that would probably need a gunsmith to fix it. And heaven forbid he might nick it!
To me, if it's not 100% reliable, it's gone. He seems to keep them, no matter how unreliable they are, and brag about them!
