Once again, PT 111 g2 Taurus is probably your best bet, for that kind of gun. Not much that can touch it in that price range...BUT, you really have to shop and be patient to get one for 200 even. I paid $239 for mine. Mine is outstanding, but I've started carrying revolvers instead.
I did pay $220 for a Taurus PT 740, but I still haven't shot it. It came with a factory bulldog case and a second extended mag, which the 9mm version doesn't come with, so you could say the cost of the gun itself was well under $200. I hear good things about these guns, but again, I haven't shot mine.
I would seriously look at the Zastava Tokarevs. Really cool. Not a compact, but skinny enough to be a CCW. Problem is, my 9mm version wasn't reliable, but chambered for the standard Tok ammo, they have a great reputation in that price range. Also, I bought a used Sigma S&W in .40 for $185, and it's great. Of course, the Hi Points can be great, too. My .45acp HP is 100% reliable, but my .380 HP isn't probably quite reliable enough for defense (but still fun...for a $139 gun
). The .45 is way too big to CC. Good luck.
