Gun store employees carrying

Every dedicated gun store I've been in has employees that are openly armed.

At cabelas I didn't see anyone carrying. I quietly asked a good friend that works there about the risk of having $60,000.00+ doubles out on display. He told me they don't worry too much.

I figured it out from there....

TJ,

Sounds like you went to the Gun Store in Cedar Park. Great people and great stuff.

I went back to the shop yesterday.IT was auto day apparently.....2 ppk's one 1911......although the guy w/ the 1911 carried w/out one in the pipe:banghead:
so that plus me w/ my PT111 ......I felt pretty safe.I figrued while I w/ my 9mm and the other 2 guys w/ their 380's started shooting it would give the guy w/ the REAL caliber time to rack the slide and start shooting...

Gun Store Policy

Most of the employees at the local gun store carry openly; however, there's a sign prohibiting customers other than LEO's from having their weapons loaded in the store.

GUN SHOPS

I frequent three different gun shops in my area. There's a big sign on the door at all three...no loaded firearms, all cell phones must be turned off. The people behind the counter in all three shops carry openly.

In one gun store, the owner doesn't carry openly, but I bet he is fully prepared. In the other all the employees carry. I hate them. They have better stuff than I can ever afford!

i saw someone post about jewelry stores. well, we have a local jeweler down here by the name of harold. and everyon knows not to rob harold. because hes packin a HUGE gun. depends on what day it is. but hes usually got a 45 on him. I know he has a .50 cal desert eagle in there along with shotguns. I believe you should have the liberty to carry at work, home, or any place for that matter. you never know when you may run into some drugged out criminal who is carrying himself

What I wonder about it why more jewelry store clerks/stores aren't better armed.
I'll bet they are--they're just more discreet.

At Market Hall in Dallas, there is a sign prohibiting concealed carry when there's a gun show on the premises. That sign is not present when the jewelry show is there. :D

As mentioned, many gun shop CUSTOMERS carry too--with the blessing of the management. Here's the best gun-shop sign I've ever seen--I've posted it before.

I can understand why places like cabelas, sportsmen's warehouse, and gander mountain don't open carry but does anyone know their policys towards concealed carry? For the employees that is. I've never noticed any printing before but that doesn't mean they aren't carrying. I got hired behind the gun counter at gander mountain but turned it down because the money was quite a bit lower than what I am currently making. I sort of wish I would have taken it though, since I don't really enjoy my current job.

It is sad to say that many of the Jewerly stores as well as other high dollar merchandise chain stores are of " the let them take it" mentality and probably have the civil liability issues more in mind than loss prevention.

Gotta admit, not everyone shoud own a firearm much less be carrying a loaded one around. Too much potential for problmes. Just think...would you want everyone at that last gun show you atteneded carrying a loaded firearm?

It's the responsibility of every citizen who carries a firearm to understand the operation and responsible legal use of a/their firearm.

Just because some/many choose not to do that does not necessarily mean everyone should not own/and or carry one IMO.

I cannot fathom why any employee of a gun shop or other valuable commodity store would not carry. A local store/range I frequent traditionally had/has very knowledgeable staff that carry. As the hare-brained owner replaces part-timers now he has made it known that he prefers non-gun "clerk" type people. The reason is they are less likely to complain about $7-8 an hour, less likely to make use of the benny to buy stock at cost, and less likely to demand more pay because they have knowledge that customers come to seek. Strange fellow that owner.

The other branch has a good sign on their door, it says "No loaded guns in store without prior notice." It keeps the idiots out that pull their carry pieces to show while pointing them at everybody and it has no effect on me and other regulars as the mere sight on me is considered "prior notice. " :D

A shop I do not go to prohibits all customer guns. The skinny unwashed geek running the place explained if something went down he didn't want to have to guess who was on his side. Between that and the range ventilation that actually sucked smoke back in your face I have never been back. Idiots.

I used to work in a small car stereo shop in the Crime Hills section of Orlando. We always had my G23 or a USPc.40 under the register as car stereos were just below drugs, guns, and money. In fact a new store we opened on SOBT (a great area also) was cleaned out one night in its first week open.

A man w/ an ak47 wearing a ski mask was arrested outside a local gun shop around me,

The joke about this is the use of an AK-47 (and a ski mask) for a gun store robbery. Although the media depicts the "evil AK-47" as the ultimate choice of guns for criminals- it would be very foolish to wield one as you walked into a gun store. Easy to see and react to. On the other hand, a perp robbing the store with a hidden pistol would be much more effective than this yahoo.

A gun store owner I knew would carry a Glock 27 concealed, plus he would also keep 1 or 2 of the shotguns loaded on the shelf behind the counter. This way, if somene got the drop on him and disarmed him, he would still have access to a loaded weapon as a last resort.

The employees carry openly at most of the gun shops I frequent. Most of these shops are "ma and pa" types, where you're usually talking to the owner, not some kid that's working there for gas money.

I would pretty much assume that anybody behind the counter is packing heat. For some reason, whenever somebody tries to rob a gun shop, he generally leaves in a body bag.

No Sign

There's only one store I can think of locally where
a) there's no sign prohibiting carry
and
b) the owner and clerks don't "seem" to be carrying.
I've been a customer of theirs for a couple of years now, and I pay attention. One of the clerks (kind of "junior" partner) is a CCW instructor. There's never anyone behind the counter who doesn't have at least 50% grey hair. And there are little indicators of . . . preparedness . . . that you pick up over time.

I would seriously not recommend anyone try to rob that place. The floors are old wood, and it's a bitch trying to get sticky red stuff off the wood. They'd be real annoyed if you made them mess up the floor.

I'm not supposed to

In my store that I work at PT, we are not supposed to as it is a "family" sporting goods store with lots of Soccer Moms & kids coming in. I leave nothing to chance. Concealed means concealed until the right moment and then either I will be thanked or asked to leave. Either way is fine with me.

i don't work in a gun shop but most of the ones around me in georgia and n.c. alot of them are carrying on the job, but i sure would be too.

I used to work at a shop, I was 21 at the time and the owner thought I was young so I didn't get to carry. The other eight guys working did. :D
