Wanted to ask a seller on gun broker a question. So I start going through the regestration process.

Got to the part where they wanted to get a $1.00 for using a 'free' email address. Okay.

So keep going and they send me a email with the regestration code. Follow the link and they say

No Thanks, I think I will just deal with regular online sites or local stores. Most of the prices I seen on there were higher than Bud's anyway.

I have never heard of that before. Just use your own email address. The only problem I have with gunbroker.com is the prices the dealers want for the guns and the dealers never respond to your questions.

You got it. That's what I would do. I've never see anything on GB that I thought was an outstanding deal or couldn't be had on equal terms either from Bud's, TGS or my LGS.

I've read a lot of stories about people finding great deals on GB, I have never experienced that luck. ;)

I use gmail and didn't have to do anything beyond paying the $1.

Having said that, I don't think you're missing out on much. From my perspective, Gunbroker is an optimistic seller's site. The only use I have for it is if I find something I want that isn't very common with a good "buy it now" price and/or favorable payment terms.

Do not send any info yet to gunbroker. Not sure what you are experiencing, as I registered several years ago, but did the dollar thing and never had a problem. I would email them, and have them explain what their problem is. I have used gunbroker for 4-5 years, have found many hard to find items, sold just as many things, and had a great experience. I can find stuff there that would take me years AND extreme luck to find at a shop or gunshow. Good luck. I trust that any problems can be resolved.

Why pay GB a dollar at all?
The payment amount is irrelevant. The point is to validate that you are who you say you are, either with a credit card or whatever other payment method they use.
The token payment also keeps the amount of riff-raff down.

GunsAmerica.com, AuctionArms.com, GunsInternational.com are better sites anyway
I can't speak to AA or GI.com, but GunsAmerica is home to phishers and other "odd" peddlers (of which I have experience [one example: calling the number listed in an ad and getting dial-a-hooker]).

Sounds phishy to me. I would contact GB about it, if it's not them I am sure they would like to hear about it.

I have bought a number of guns through them and have gotten some good deals, just takes patience.

i use gb daily...yes , they are not with out issues...that dollar charge is to make sure are a legit person and not some phony link or business...

I've used GB multiple times. I have been able to find some good deals, however, for some things I have bought it has taken time (sometimes as much as a month of going on every day) to find it. I have also made relationships with sellers on there and have bought things from them away from GB. From what I've seen, GB has much cheaper prices than the LGS in my area.

I was going to ask a seller a question to lol. I'll have to cough up the coin or have someone on here send him my email hint hint.

GunBroker is a great site to find deals. I have found quite a few and when I was selling something, I've had great luck. I did the dollar thing but never the level of identification you were asked for. Give em an email, they have always been responsive to my questions.

Are you sure you were honest in what you entered? I have an account there and have never had any problems. One of my coworkers tried to open an account using a fake name and address (he just wanted it to be able to cruise the site and ask questions) and it told him the same thing. I think they run a white pages check to make sure the name and address match out there. IDK, could be just a glitch tho.

As to what I have read about others not finding good deals, I have been able to find really good deals, (like a NIB Ruger M77 Hawkeye Mark II .308 for 535 dollars) and have never had any trouble. It sometimes takes a while to find a good deal.

I registered for the dollar didnt ask for anything more. I have found a few good deals on gunbroker mainly use it to sell though. Nice to have pretty much anything you may want only a click away from 22's to cannons.

I think it's most likely that your name and/or billing address you entered doesn't match what the bank had on file when they got the $1 authorization. Sometimes that can be because you miss-typed something, or maybe you forgot that the billing address info isn't your mailing address (or something more complex).

Bottom line, when I signed up I thought it was a pain the "you know what". However, looking back I think I find it refreshing that a company makes this much effort to keep their site secure.

I rarely find anything that interesting there, but hey...it's secure. Can't have everything I guess.

AA is a crappy site with a small percentage of people that GB has. For its size, GB is a terrific site. I have seldom had any bad experiences there and they are my favorite venue for merchandise I can't otherwise move, with one dollar start no reserve auctions.
I concur the OP probably entered something wrong.

Your account has been flagged...
Been there. It is no major issue. You just generate a Support Issue in your account options. I told them that I was not going to send them personal info, and I asked that they look into why I was flagged. Within hours, they undid whatever the hiccup was.

I used to prefer AuctionArms over GB, but there's just so little traffic there that I opted to just run with the big dogs where I can find anything and everything, any day and every day.

Gunbroker.com

I've been using them for the past 3 years w/o issue. I have not heard of what you'd described. I would recommend giving them a call and speaking with a live person.

What I have found lately is that the Merchant-Class sellers' prices are about the same as the local shops. Tack on shipping and FFL fees, it's no better than the local shop or big box. Individual sellers' prices are competitive, however, by working with individuals you're exposed to a whole new set of issues.

Gunbroker is the best of the online auction sites. I use three others that don't have half the traffic.

People who can't find what they want or a good deal on gunbroker are doing it wrong.

I've bought a dozen firearms through gunbroker, never had a single issue, great sellers and buyer community - good search engine. I love it.

Agree with this.

I don't care for the 15 minute rule, either. When I sell things on ebay I publish the reserve, set a fair "buy it now" price, and don't care if buyers engage in "sniping".

Gunbroker certainly widens the market for both buyer and seller, and for that it's great. Most sellers are knowledgeable and know if they are holding a needle in a haystack (which is usually what I'm looking for), and their prices reflect that.
