apologies if this has come up before...
I just bought a house in a neighborhood that has an elementary school about 3 blocks away. I haven't seen the Gun Free Zone signs yet.
But, A friend of mine in Kansas, his neighborhood does have the Gun Free Zone signs. Now, his house, which contains his guns, is probably within 1000 feet of the school. How does that work law wise? Same note, I was driving to his house to get him and go to the range nearby. So my vehicle has firearms in it as I drove through the Gun Free Zone.
So...in theory if I were pulled over for speeding in front of the school, and the officer sees the range bag...what happens?
Also, what if my friend is throwing a party or something, and the cops are called for a disturbing the peace deal. They're going to see the rifles in the rack by the fireplace. What happens?
Also, do the cops still carry their guns in Gun Free Zones? Heh, okay that one is in jest...
Seriously though, would the gun issue just be an extra charge if one went on a shooting spree in a school zone? Kinda like how they throw assault with a deadly weapon on people who get in high speed pursuits with the police? Or would one actually get in trouble simply for 'passing through' with a firearm that is legally being transported?
