apologies if this has come up before...

I just bought a house in a neighborhood that has an elementary school about 3 blocks away. I haven't seen the Gun Free Zone signs yet.

But, A friend of mine in Kansas, his neighborhood does have the Gun Free Zone signs. Now, his house, which contains his guns, is probably within 1000 feet of the school. How does that work law wise? Same note, I was driving to his house to get him and go to the range nearby. So my vehicle has firearms in it as I drove through the Gun Free Zone.

So...in theory if I were pulled over for speeding in front of the school, and the officer sees the range bag...what happens?

Also, what if my friend is throwing a party or something, and the cops are called for a disturbing the peace deal. They're going to see the rifles in the rack by the fireplace. What happens?

Also, do the cops still carry their guns in Gun Free Zones? Heh, okay that one is in jest...

Seriously though, would the gun issue just be an extra charge if one went on a shooting spree in a school zone? Kinda like how they throw assault with a deadly weapon on people who get in high speed pursuits with the police? Or would one actually get in trouble simply for 'passing through' with a firearm that is legally being transported?

I am a major violator if I'm not sposed to have my gat within 1000' of a skool. I thought it was only on skull grounds that you coundn't pack. I dont see any signs 1000' from the skull, but I do see them attached to the outside of the building.:cuss:

If the gun is being legally transported in a container as set forth in state law, you can drive anywhere you want. The "crime zones" around schools allow the courts to impose higher penalties on lawbreakers who violate the law in those areas, not invent new laws that apply only in those particular areas.

Didn't the courts strike down the Gun Free School laws (no firearms within 1000 ft) passed by the feds, on the grounds that the Interstate Commerce Law did not apply, as they had stated in their law.

Of course, this is going to get worse, as the government indoctrination centers continue to decline, soon it will no longer matter if you are just passing thru in your car.

Speeding ticket with guns = felony.

Just you wait.

Its for the children.

Won't anybody think about the children?

If it saves just one childs life, its worth the dozens of adults lives who will be killed in prison.

etc.:barf:

Mr. Galt, I can't tell if you're being facetious/sarcastic or engaging in recreational hysterics.

The 'gun free school zone" was struck down precisely because it was so stupid and unenforceable. I own approximately a dozen firearms and I live within 1000' of an elementry school, I drive by with at least one gun in the car several times a day, and often walk past while armed (concealed, of course). No one bothers me, and no one has any legal grounds for doing so, as I have no intention of going into the school or onto school property (beyond crossing their driveway as I walk by).

FWIW, with 36 states now doing 'shall issue' (WI not withstanding), the overall trend in RKBA is up. This is not to say that we can relax, coast, slack off, or cease to spread the word, even for a moment, but it's hardly as bad as your post suggests. I mean, what planet are you visiting form? Would you care to divulge your general location? What, exactly, is your point?

Clearly, that was sarcasm.

Along the lines of the school zone discussion, I went to a large university for my masters degree which of course had a no weapons on campus policy. But given that the two major street connecting the east and west side of the twon passed through the campus, it was almost impossible not to have a firearm on campus land. :uhoh:

I hope I am long dead the day it is a felony if you are speeding and have guns in the car. If that were the case today, 90% of Floridians would be felons.

I guess if you cannot outlaw the guns, outlaw the gun owners, right?

The fed gun free zone was shot down, but many states have their own gun free zones. MI allows CCW holders to carry when they are picking up and dropping off their kids.
