Guns That You Wished You'd Bought Sooner

Like member mstreddy, I, too, waited too long to pick up a WWII vintage 1911A1, but the one I found was a Rem Rand, had a period correct holster and 5 mags, all correct, and it looks as though it's never been re-arsenaled. A local gun shop owner I trust is something of an expert on them, and he said it's the second nicest one he's ever seen, and only because it doesn't have all the photo evidence and written story from the Vet that carried it. Late 1943 production. Don't know exactly when it went to Europe, but I'd like to think it was there for the big day. Someday, perhaps those "lost to eternity" records may yet surface. I'd sure like to know the outfit it went to and with.

For me it’s just a simple S&W 442. When I first started to conceal carry I was of the mindset that having single action capability was important for accuracy so I bought a S&W 337. Over time pocket carry took over from IWB carry, and that hammer always seemed to get in the way. Yes I know to cover the hammer with my thumb when drawing the gun, but that just made my fist too fat for a clean draw. I also learned that I could shoot just as well with double action once I mastered a smooth trigger pull. I started carrying that j-frame less and less. Eventually I “got a good deal” on a LNIB 442. It didn’t take long for that 442 to become my most carried gun. It doesn’t have the capacity of the single stack 9’s I have, but for some reason I always feel more comfortable carrying it over a semi-auto.

Always been a 1911 guy, all the way back to the 70s. Even with my Mark IV and Delta Elite, I always dreamed of having a .22LR version, but the Colt Ace was vaporware and cost-prohibitive when you could actually find one. Even some of the conversions were pricey, and I didn't relish the idea of taking one gun apart to make another. Enter the GSG and Walther versions. I wanted a GSG for quite a while, but reviews were spotty and mixed. On a moment's notice, I found a Colt Gold Cup/Walther at my local gun shop for the right price, and bought it instantly. Love it! Just bought two extra 12 round mags for it.

Now, if I could only get that Garand........

Guys, im totally serious, this (or any) black powder revolver is fun, cheap, and interesting shooting discipline.
Highly recommended!
Nice. In my case, I bought a black powder revolver (1848 Dragoon) to use as an illustration in a talk. I am embarrassed how long it sat in the safe following before I finally decided to figure out how it worked. VERY cool! So it isn't so much a gun "I wish I'd bought sooner." Rather, it's a gun I wish I'd started shooting sooner!

Zactly.....!
Its not a ccw.
Its not a hunting gun.
Its not a SD gun......
But it sure is fun.

That would be a Rossi Model 92. Years before I had a Marlin Model 336; nothing special and before long it was down the road as I needed cash for school. After that I guess I just didn't think about lever actions for a long while, that is til I started accumulating single action revolvers in.45 Colt. Now I wanted something in a long arm to go with them. Found a Marlin Model 1894 that was used but in very nice condition. Only problem was the seller wanted a lot more for it than I wanted to spend. And after that one...nothing. I hit up every gun show and gun shop for years looking for one until I finally found one at a local gun show. Like new in the box and at a very agreeable price I snatched it up and have been quite pleased with my later than sooner lever action!

Of all the Surplus rifles I have, I really enjoy collecting Turkish Mausers. I wish I had started buying them when you could get four rifles for $100 plus four free bayonets. By the time I started collecting them they were selling for $60 each. I have managed to pick up a few over the years.

And I’ve managed to pick up a few bayonets too.

I wish I'd have bought a 17hmr years ago. To be perfectly honest I never gave them much thought till about 3 weeks ago. I purchased a Savage 93R, put a 4 x 12 x 40 bdc on it. I've had more fun with that little rifle. Once sighted in, it put 10 shots at 100 yards in a group the size of my thumbnail. Who new? Everybody but me I guess. Can't wait to get it into the woods and see what it will do on small varmints.
As luck would have it, earlier this week a Savage B17 Vss wearing a Vortex scope landed in my lap in unfired condition. I have been like a little kid with his first rifle again.

Hi ...
I have wanted a Mannlicher full stocked bolt action rifle for years. I didn't want a new in box rifle...used in good condition would be fine.
Never seemed to be able to find one when I had the money at anything near a reasonable price.

Earlier this year I found a very nice Interarms Mark X in 7x57 at a local gun auction.
I had looked at it on the auction website and knew about what they went for at least on GunBroker.
I had to push the bid to $700 to win it but it is a very nice looking rifle and it wants to shoot. First trip to the gun club with some factory loads produced 5 shot groups just over an inch off a Caldwell rest at 100yds.
I am very happy with the rifle and wish I had ponied up the money for one years ago.

An accurate, heavy, well-stocked .223. I traded into mine completely unintentionally (an R700 SPS, added a Boyd's Varmint stock).

After 3 years of load development and lots of learning, I'm printing 0.4s on good days, and the 3" plate at 300 yards I asked the club to hang is cheap fun.

My Kimber 82G .22LR which I use for rimfire benchrest. It is amazingly accurate, even in my hands. I should have bought one at the beginning of the season.

It flat out shoots, no doubt about it.

I call my Kimber 82 the Gae Bolga, after Cu Chullain's weapon, which hunted his enemies down. I've had it more than 30 years and it's killed a boxcar load of squirrels.

After I got my Colt 6920 I was asking myself.. what took you so long? What a well made reliable piece of engineering. Wish I had gotten the AR bug earlier.

I wish I'd bought them all sooner.

The Savage 93R17 (.17 HMR) should have been my first scoped gun. It's more accurate than the guns I bought earlier, it's cheaper to shoot than most, and it's easy on the shoulder. You can put a hundred rounds in your pocket easily.

I lived in Egypt in the mid-50s, in Alexandria, just a short distance from the battlefield at El Alamein. Dad was in oil exploration, and his crews were all over the Western Desert. I'd get out there every chance I could. I had a nice collection of weapons -- including a Bren gun. But Dad wouldn't let me bring any of them home. :-(
