H&K MP5 SD .22 LR. Any thoughts?

You'll be really impressed with the HK Mr. Sour Kraut. If you can swing it, I'd encourage you to "pull the trigger". Buy at least 1 spare mag right away.

On Monday night by pure chance there were only three of us at the indoor range, and by pure chance each one of us brought a different evil black .22 rifle.
I had my SIG522, there was an HK MP5SD .22 and the last rifle was an S&W M&P 15/22.
Each one of us fired all the rifles (not many rounds, just 10-20 each because time was short).

The MP5 clone felt solid and was quite heavy. The controls all felt solid but the trigger had sideways play and the rifle was too short for my liking. Other than that the barrel looks thin under the fake can, but generally the rifle seemed okay.

The SIG is mine but I'll try to be objective: it handles nicely, controls are good, trigger is nice. It could also be a bit longer and it has a stupid design feature where the bolt holds back against the magazine after the last shot. As soon as you release the mag the bolt goes forward. I would have preferred it to stay back. If you fire off a full magazine rapidly you can get wisps of smoke coming up from the receiver into your face.

The AR clone was the worst of the three for me. Much of my problem with it is also present on the real AR. I don't like the sproing, it just doesn't feel comfortable. Trigger wasn't great and the magazines were terrible (exposed springs are not my thing). Other than that it felt solid, except some play in the butt.

I'd like to get a chance to do a full session with all three rifles, but all of us were busy. I had dinged my reflex dot, the MP5 guy had a reflex sight that was wondering and the AR guy was trying to adjust his irons as he has only recently got the rifle.

I was very happy that I had the SIG and not one of the other two. My SIG has had 3358 rounds through it with 7 failures (5 stove-pipes and 2 failure to ignite). I clean that SIG only once out of every three range visits. I keep a detailed ammo log on that rifle, you can find it on rimfire central.
The MP5 guy says he's had about 600 rounds through his and not one failure. I don't know how often he cleans that.
The AR guy: too early to tell.

I have one of the old GSGs that were sold before the spat with HK. It's a blast. It has probably 4 or 5 bricks of .22LR through it so far, runs like a top. Good accuracy too. It's a good little gun for what it is (a plinker).

I laughed when I read Todd Bailey's name. What a joke. Hasn't he been banned from most all firearms forums?
Anyways, the GSG's are fun and don't jam nearly as much as their cost suggests they would for a cheap plastic gun is what I've been told
