Yes, I'd like to know who goes there.

The Armed Polite Society.

Also known as APS.

In the past couple of weeks, I've seen a disconcerting number of posts (and have had some PMs) from people who were surprised to have it pointed out that we have a sister site where such things as general discussion (about anything) is possible -- with no constraint that it must be gun-related -- and where political discussion is permitted.

Some of these members have hundreds of posts.

Now, having myself attended the APS site, I know that there are many here who do go there regularly and contribute.

And then, maybe once or twice a week, a senior member here will "discover" that we have a place for non-gun-related discussions.

So I began to wonder . . .

How many of you already know about APS?

How many of you are shocked to discover the existence of a secret site where all the fun stuff is discussed?

How many of you already knew about it, but don't care because you're over here talking about guns, the whole guns, and nothing but the guns?

Perhaps with this thread, more people will realize it's there.

Who knows?

Maybe it won't be such a secret any more.

I lurk a bit but I lost my account password. I've probably changed my email three times since then and I just haven't had time to contact anyone about it.

Registered member at APS.
(Even though I've long since
lost track of user name and password.)

Last time I was over there (we're talking years),
it didn't have that ... loving feeling.

Has it settled down a bit?

It seems to be getting better. For the longest time there didn't seem to be much activity. It's picked up a lot in the last few months I've noticed.

i know about it, don't care about it, won't go there. i've no interest in joining another forum, and quite frankly (imo of course) thr lost a good thing when it shut down the 'open for all discussion' part of the board. at least the moderators have loosened up a ton here in the past 3 - 6 months...

I'll say I don't presently go there. Though I have lurked a few times in the past. Lately I've been thinking more about registering over there, partly to talk politics.

But frankly, between FaceSpace, THR, regular e-mail, and looking/applying for jobs over the internet, I fear I'm going to have the THR logo and all my screen-names burned into my retinas if I don't force myself away from this stuff for a while...

never heard of it

sounds like a good idea.

I am willing to bet a bunch of folks end up arguing about guns and politics anyway though.
Even though they could talk about how rocking Motorhead is or why the Ford won't kick over.

Nope...never heard of it...what is that place again?

:neener::evil:

Yeah, you mean the sight with the threads "Are cats really domesticated" and "Princess Buttercup is Single?"
Excuse me?
How about "My federal senators are teh heat." (sig)
Yuppers, wish I spent more time there. Always wanted to find a guide book on becoming a metrosexual. Bet if I watch that site carefully I can find it.
pffftttt.
A moderator started this thread?
Exercise some restraint.
I'm relatively new here, but...
Wouldn't have known about it if not for this post. Am even upset I found out about it.
Exercise some restraint!
I won't even dignify this post with pm me. If you're concerned about this "Hello Kitty" site please ban me.
Please, please, please, ban me!

Ya all right there loop?

I have been a registered member since May of 06. Every once in a while I'll go
over to see if anything interesting is going on. Usually come back to THR in
short order.

I have spent more time on TFL and other forms than there.

no thanks

1. APS has silly avatars that choke a dialup connection.
2. There are an abundance of people who think having posted 14,436 one line replies and smilies gives them authority.
3. THR seems to attract people who actually have something to say.

Conclusion: If you have broadband, actually think people like looking at pictures of your dog, and have an attention span consistent with the editorial standards of the USA Today, sure, APS is for you.

"APS has silly avatars that choke a dialup connection."

You must be new to the net. Many boards, including APS, allow the user to set options by clicking a little box. Here are two from APS.

Don't show other users' avatars.
Don't show other users' signatures.

I remember dialup connections. Thank goodness I'm now using Verizon FiOS and it's only $10/mo. more. Next Friday I'm scheduled for FiOS TV hookup and will happily be dumping Comcast and its shrinking lineup. If I can adapt to constantly changing technology, anybody can.

Hey Arfin
How about just one more link in case they missed it. :D

Know about it, not interested, hope they have fun. :)

I must admit I didn't know APS existed. I'll have to check it out.

My "anything goes" site has been AR15.com's General Discussion forum.

I know about. I'm signed up, but don't go there very often, don't know if I've even posted there. I lurk more than I post on every forum I'm on anyway.

i know about it, don't care about it, won't go there.

Agreed.

I miss the round table, which was 90% of why I joined THR.

Now we just have a million threads that are either caliber wars or "What gun for" threads.

Any interesting threads are capped off three posts in by someone saying "Use the search function".

This place IMO is just a really good archive now.

I think it was more than accomadating of Oleg (love his pics) to start that for the people who have other varied interests. We should tell more people to visit that sight when they just dont seem to understand what THR is all about. They get all defensive, rude, etc... we can just tell them that the board for that is over at PAS.
I dont just like the set up here I love it. Keep it to what really matters the weapon platforms, for me. I need to learn as much as Old Fuff knows. I just knew I should have become a gunsmith.

Personally, I don't have any use for APS. One of the reasons I love THR, is because it stays ON TOPIC and any off-topic nonsense is filtered out or moved to APS. I come to THR to talk about guns, and gun-related issues. Not politics, not the latest gossip, not anything else.

THR is more than enough for me!
