Shot my first deer in 1974 with a model 19 Smith, 158 grain JHP at 81 steps. Gave up rifles on deer that same year and never looked back. I average at least one a year, sometimes two. I mostly carry a Model 629 six inch using 275 grain Keith style bullets at 1200fps. The last two years I spent hunting with a pistol, I used my Kimber Custom TLE II. Had really good luck with it as well, using 230 grainers. One shot with a Golden Sabre and the other a 230 grain Gold Dot. I also put a doe down with it. If you are planning on just taking it up, I wish you a lot of luck, as there should be more of us hunting with handguns. Practice, practice practice as they say.

Shot a whitetail doe a few years back with a .44 magnum. Shot a cow moose with a 10mm. Plan to hunt deer this year with a 10mm as well.

I haven't hunted with a rifle in at least 9 years. I will admit that I have passed on quite a few animals I would have cleanly taken in a heartbeat with a rifle. The added challenge is part of why I choose to use a handgun.

Technically, the handgun isn't my primary hunting implement, but when I hunt, I always have my Ruger Blackhawk .357 with me because I've had enough close encounters that I could/should have used it when it happened. I shot a mule deer with my .270 from 25 yards, and would have preferred to make that shot with my revolver, but it wasn't in my hand at the time.

I would always carry a sidearm and a rifle wanting to use the handgun but had the rifle for the "I think it's to far away" shots. When I started to take a handgun only is when I started to realize that I know what my limits are for the handgun, and thats when they started to fall. I figured that I can let them walk when I'm unsure with the rifle, why not let them walk with the pistol.

I use a ruger super redhawk with a 7.5" barrel pushing 240xtp's. Works pretty good so far. I might add a scope to it this year.

Taurus PT99 AS one shot drop my javelina in its tracks, my buddy hit his three times with a Ruger P89, I think the first hit would have done it but he got a little impatient. Both pistols are in 9MM and in out of the box configuration.
I really need to figure out how to set the date on the camera correctly. All my photos show 2005 but this one is from the 2008 hunt.

Have taken my Desert Eagle .50 twice for deer and elk, but never bagged one. In point of fact, neither time did I even see a bull elk or a buck with more than 2 points. But had I the opportunity, I'd be confident to at least 150 yards with a decent rest. One of these days

It had a Burris 1.5-4x scope on it when that target was printed. 2-9/16" @ 100 yds. These loads make just shy of 1,600 ft/lbs at the muzzle.

Two custom Rugers. One with a five shot oversized cylinder build on a Bisley frame and 1-22 innch .451 pac-nor barrel cut to 5 1/2 inch. THis gun is chambered in th 45 Long Colt. The front sight is a Ruger .595 ramp sight cut to a post the rear sight a BCA target rear sight. The chambers are cut .480 throats are .453 and barrel/cylinder gap is .1500. This gun will handle a 265 gr. at 1700, 300gr at 1600, and a 340 gr. at 1500 fps the entire gun is linebored and locks up like a bank vault.
The second gun is a Super Blackhawk with a standard six shot ruger cylinder the gun has been puppied up the same way as the Five shot. The big improvement is we recontoured the gripframe and reforged the trigger guard
All that we did was filed of the heel and toe from the grip frame file a 1/16 of an inch from the front strap behind the trigger and removed the the spur from the trigger guard. Loads are 265gr. keith at 1450 and a 320 keith at 1350.

Primarily a TC contender, .30-30 Winchester 12" hunter barrel and 10" .22 match. Both are scoped with a 2x LER. I also have a new to me Mk II Ruger with 2x LER. I've shot a couple of deer with my 6.5" Blackhawk in .357 magnum, but my Contender is my go to hunting handgun without doubt.

Wasp! 15 yards with a Ruger MarkII Government model. Iron sights but I was younger then. I was at a gun range in Texas and a wasp alighted on top of a close pin holding up my target. Aimed, squeezed the trigger and that wasp evaporated!!!

I hunt deer with a S&W Model 57 (41 magnum).
For small game i use various S&W 22 caliber revolvers.

Ruger Standard in .22lr for all small game been shootin it since I was 11, why mess with perfection.
I have put down deer with my FNP-9, thanks to a few people who speed in front of my house.

For whitetails and hogs I use a 45 Colt with a 5 1/2 barrel. 255 grain Keith bullets over as much black powder as I can stuff into the case and still seat the bullet. So far, I have not recovered any bullets.
