Zombie Apocalypse Survival School (Z.A.S.S.) with Todd Rassa

Sent to my e-mail by the Sig Sauer training academy. I know that zombies have taken over (our youth culture that is, and mabye a few adults as well I am sure.) Don't get me wrong I love horror movies also, mabye even a good zombie video game is not bad either if you like to play video games, but "Zombie Ammo", "Zombie Survival School" Really? I know that they are getting the attention that they want, including this thread and yes I know this may not be a forum that may or may not be a zombie friendly area. I know some zombie threads have been made here (The High Road) in the past, but I am begining to wonder just how healthy this zombie thing really is. Learning strategies, tactics and training or just overall firearm safety along with the resposibility of owning firearms is serious buisiness and IMO don't think it is going to do any real good for the firearm community in general.

I believe it's all done tongue in cheek and many people are overthinking it, or taking it too seriously.. The same thoughts could applied to Halloween. It's simple fun and with some marketing there is money too be made. But is it really anything to spend time thinking about? I don't think so.

I admit, I love Zombies. Mostly it's the idea of surviving an apocalypse. I realize it's never going to happen but its fun to pretend and if it gets people prepared for real life events, whatever.

As long as the "Zombie Survival School" teaches practical stuff, cool. If it's really teaching how to avoid people trying to bite you and how to dispach slow moving attackers with poor motor skills, then I think your training money can be better spent elsewhere.

Even the Gov has gotten on board...

I saw a zombie edition Ruger LCP at a gun show recently. I know it's all in fun, but I suspect it makes us look like even bigger nut jobs than the antis already paint us to be. I wish they would stop it.

Besides, what fool thinks an LCP is a good choice for the zombie apocalypse? :)

Mostly it's the idea of surviving an apocalypse.

It is an interesting concept one of my fav. movies growing up was Vincent Price's "The Last Man on Earth" and I love the XBOX 360's "Fallout" series games and as long as it is teaching real world situations I then do not have a problem with it, it only worries me not for the resposible gun owners, but for young inexperienced people (and possibly mentally disturbed individuals) that it could come back as another: "I killed this person because he was a zombie" defense in court, and then did it with "Zombie Ammo". I may be thinking too much into it, I have no doubt. I am not a pychologist or anything but I have taken psychology in college many times over and it just makes me wonder sometimes. I was also in the music buisiness for a time and have seen how people will use musicians lyric's to justify either a suicide, murder, or heaven knows what else. I just see it sometimes as opening a "Can of Worms".

It wouldn't, I would go for an M-4A1 or AK-47. --- SEE NOW I'M DOING IT! (j/k) :D
Anyway those were just my thoughts and it will be interesting to see what anyone else has to say on this subject. Thanks..

I know this one has been beat to death and that many people feel that "zombies" are a way to label people without attaching the gravity of a human being to the equation...but I feel the same as this:

It's a fun twist on learning useful skills. It's absolutely no different than CASS enthusiasts going to classes here:

Same concept, different demographic.

If we're going to attack the whole zombie craze, we may as well attack all humanoid targets and such.

If zombie ammo keeps a few younger shooters interested, I have no problem with it. Maybe they should even branch out and start selling werewolf and vampire ammo.

Zombies are a hot topic for movies and books (tons available thru the Amazon Kindle). Even the CDC has tongue-in-cheek information available on how to survive the Zombie Apocalypse, which is another name for any society-altering event (flood, tornado, Obama getting re-elected, etc).

If you think you are getting inundated w/ Zombie stuff now, wait until the movie World War Z (Brad Pit) comes out next year. :what:

Ya never know, some of that training might come in handy if the power goes out and there's a rash of rioters you have to make your way through :)

That being said I think it's stupid too.

I know, I can't wait! The audio book was good.

Not to hijack the thread, but have you ever heard of "We're Alive!" a zombie podcast? Good stuff.

The zombie craze is simply a way for those of us preparing for a SHTF scenario to make fun of ourselves while still preparing.

Seems to me that a (frighteningly large) percentage of the population currently behave like zombies. Unthinking, dispassionate, easily-influenced, mob-mentality, unsmiling, dead-eyed...anything sound familiar yet? All they lack is the obligatory bloody-shirt & swaying wino-walk. They're all over our cultural radar because there all over our streets. Don't BE ONE! ;)

I don't think it's healthy either... for different reasons.

Beyond that, I find it rather absurd.... but then, I find most every trendy thing today to be absurd (at best).

Yeah i ran across one of these, I think it says "zombie slayer" on the slide. This is just another prime example of how this is not something that is taken serious. I mean come on, any real zombie slayer knows you have to have a suppressed 300 aac blackout to take these bad boys on!

We have to find a way to bridge real live firearms culture to a generation who actually think they're building skills on xBox.

The Zombie thing is a good way to draw them out here into the sunlight and expose them to real life with weapons, which happens to be way better than flipping a controller and watching a screen.

I like wheelgunslinger's idea but for the most part zombie products and memorabilia that relate to shooting seem like a monumental waste of time and money.

I used to shake my head and roll my eyes on this issue, but if you think about what would be involved in defending against an en masse zombie attack, training scenarios for that specific venue actually make a little more sense than on the face of it.

Let's look at it from a practical standpoint and relate it to something more realistic, like...say...the chaos that could ensue during a widespread riot that spills out into the outlying areas. Let's also go on the assumption that many of the combatants will be armed, and working as a team...like a faction of MS13 or the Crips/Bloods/Name your gang affiliation.

The one prevailing activity that you're practicing is furiously, desperately engaging multiple targets in a hurry...which is a real possibility. Since you'll likely be operating alone or in small groups...ammunition on tap will be limited, and firing multiple rounds at each target would be unsound...so you strive for accurate placement in a hurry, and to make every shot achieve maximum effect.

Maybe it's not so silly...

I was at my LGS and saw a colorful ammo box from Hornady. It looked like it should have been full of bubble gum instead of .223 ammo. It was ZOMBIE ammo. It was printed on the back that "you gotta shoot 'em in the head" blah, blah.

You gotta be kiddin' me.

I don't get it.

Shoot for the head

I see it as a good reason to shoot VERY accurately and a target that is TOTALLY non - P.C. to all.

They are of all race, color, creed, and who knows WHAT religion.

I enjoy the targets and the looks I get at the range when tacking one up to shoot at.

Except for the 'gimmicky' ammo,I see no problem with the whole thing a and if it makes you a better "head shot" then so be it.

My wife thinks I am looney as I have a collection of zombie blades and of course have had the discussion with friends as to THE best zombie gun.

In case you wonder, the M-1 CARBINE seems to win all arguments as its easy to shoot, and also easy to carry plenty of ammunition.

Very accurate at the range you should need, and there are 15 and 30 round mag's.

Remember the motto from "Zombieland" = double taps .
