Have u bought a gun 2 trade for a gun?

One of my co-workers has a S&W model 57.I've both lusted after it & tried to buy it for years.I finally asked him,off the cuff,if he'd trade it for something else.Turns out he really wants a 44mag-he wants the "Dirty Harry"gun.A local gun store has an 8.375 model 629 w/scope pretty cheap.Now I'm going to buy the 629 to trade it for the 57.WHEW!!
With the permit requirements here this will take a few weeks!Geez,the things we do....
Anyone else ever done something like this?


BTW,I know DH didn't carry that model/style.My bud thinks that stainless is more impressive.

While I've bought many guns that I have no real intrest in(stupidly good price),knowing that at some future point I could use it for "trade bait",I've never actually bought one for a perticular trade.

I used to do it at gun shows all of the time.

A case in point. Many years ago I wanted a Plainfield M1 Carbine. Dealer had one and I talked him down to $200. But I didn't really have $200 to spare. I asked him if he'd trage a S&W M10 and a Raven .25 for it. He said sure.
I walked across to the other side of the hall, bought a Model 10 I had seen earlier for $100, on the way back I picked up a Raven NIB for $45 and went home with my Carbine.

I'm with berettaman. I frequently buy guns that I find at a good price, and stash them away as "trade goods" for when I find something I really want. Latest example: I had a couple of rifles, a shotgun and a handgun in my "stash", and decided I wanted to try S&W's new 325 Scandium .45 ACP revolver. I got something like $300 more for my trade guns than I paid for them, and got the 325 and another gun in exchange. Sounds like a deal to me!

Beautiful! Best thing about this deal is that 3 parties were happy from this deal! And you and the dealer with the carbine feels like they screwed the other over Good trade!

Sure! I've done it numerous times. Sometimes it's hard to keep it all straight in your head though (you want an AR, Billy wants a FAL in trade for his AK, Tom wants an AK for his AR, James is selling his FAL). It's a complex maze sometimes, but if you can keep straight who wants what, and the average price on most guns, you can often make out pretty well.

I once bought a Remington BDL in 30'06 to trade for an International Harvester Garand.

Sad to say, I later sold the Garand.

I bought a FR-7 off a guy who was in a bind for cash; paid $50 USD for it. Used it as a straight across trade for a NIB H&R 999 .22 pistol shortly thereafter. This was the same .308 chambered 95 Mauser action jobbie that I had to use a cheater pipe on to open the action after firing it from a fixture using a lanyard from behind cover.

Traded a Taurus 945 and a Kel-Tek 9mm for a NIB Glock 30. Not sure who took who but I got rid of a .45 that had hammer bite from hell and a 9mm that the broad side of barns were safe from for a dang sweet shootin pistol. Everyone was happy at the end of the day.

The only gun I ever traded away was a S&W Sigma .40. Actually I just went to the gun store with it to see if they would throw it away for me so that my kids wouldn't accidentally find it in the trash. Not sure why I didn't want they to find it though, none of them are strong enough to pull that trigger (measured in tons, not pounds)!

Anywho, they game me $100 for it in a trade for a real gun.
