I would just like to share a story with you guys, I got up at 4 am to go shooting, I had cleaned my ammo bag out the night before and laid out all the stuff i was going to take with me, all except for my two ammo cans of pistol ammo, and some old fruit. Well about half way out to the woods I remembered i forgot the fruit, It took me the whole way out to remember I forgot the ammo cans:eek: It was a beautiful morning and i was not going to let any of that get me down, I made due with what i had, what i had was a bunch of 22lr some 17 HMR a few rounds of 9mm and 40 S&W and a handful of 30-06, Well after 116 round of the 22lr the extractor was jammed with what looks like a shaving from one of the rounds. On to the 17 HMR after about 20 rounds I took the rife with me down range to put up more things to shoot, thats when i noticed the scope mounts had come loose:( It still shot pretty well tho. And for the pistols ran like a dream, I found myself taking more time and making my shoots count, which was a lot of fun. Even after my bone head move and a few problems i still found myself with a ear to ear grin all the way home. Even a not so perfect trip shooting is still the best way i can think to spend a Sunday morning in the woods.

Hello friends and neighbors // Sounds like an almost perfect day.

Yes I have done almost the same thing.
My .357 rifle will shoot .38 LRN. I grabbed the .38 LSWC.
I could still shoot them in my revolver but it made for an expensive day shooting the rifle with .357 only.

Forgot? You mean like you left your 1911 sitting on the bench at home and only realized it after you drove an hour to an IDPA match? No, never.

Went to the gunstore/range to shoot my Sig 1911 and realized after I get there, forgot the darn magazines! I had to buy a magazine.

I once loaded up a bunch of rounds to test in my AR. Got to the range and found that I had forgotten to bring mags with me. Single shot my ar about 20 times. It took about an hour just to shoot those 20 rounds. Got in my truck to go home and found a mag sitting there in the passenger seat.

I've never gone out coyote hunting and gotten all of my cammo on and went to pull out the rifle only to realize that the ammo can was still in my locker at home. Never.

Hypothetical Question

Who here has been INSIDE the Post Office before remembering you are carrying:what:

And you have to go thru a metal detector to leave:banghead:

Anyone:confused:

Makes for a lond day (I would think):uhoh:

Once, I walked 3/4 mile to my deer stand on opening morning only to discover (10 min. before opening) that I'd brought .243 Win rounds for my .270 Win.
I made record time quietly racing back to my cabin to retrieve the correct rounds.

tilos- if that were to happen i would be curious to know how it ended.

ever gotten up at 330 to go deer hunting make it all the way to the field where you plan to park to go to your stand when you realize your in flip flops and forgot your boots? i've also hunted bears in flip flops too

or maybe wake up at 4 am for the opening day of duck season and drive all the way to your favorite duck hole to realize you only have 7.5 lead shot? yup for that i drove to a mom and pop grocery/gas to buy a box of faststeel for 40 buck!!!!

as you can tell i get forget full early in the morning

After testing a preliminary batch of 9mm w/ cast boolits and having FTF issues, I painstakingly worked up another batch and headed back to the range a few days later, with the primary purpose of testing the new batch. When I got there, I could not find the 9mms.

Fortunately, I had some other things to keep me occupied for the afternoon, but it's been 6 months now, and I still have not found those darn 9mm rounds!!! [I'd insert the banging my head against the wall emoticon HERE if I knew how.]

But among my friends, it seems that magazines and ear protection are the two things things that always gets left at home. I usually have a big jar of plugs to share, but I can't help out with the mags.

That is one reason why I like my Remington 700 with internal magazine. Usually it is the mag that gets forgotten with me, not the ammo, at least not yet!

Had a PO box at the time.
Milled around the lobby, thought about putting "it" in the PO Box or sending it to myself..felonies both.
(thinking)
Wait that metal detector didn't go off when I came in and no one has tackled me yet...so I left.

I believe that it shortened my life considerably though.

A while back I went to the range to zero in scopes on a .22 and my Mini-14. Got to my stall, unpacked, set up the rifle mount and realized that I didn't bring a mag for the .22. Put that rifle away, got out the Mini-14, went to set it in the mount and realized the 30 round mag just wasn't gonna get it. Had a bunch of 30 round mags with me. Nothing smaller. :banghead:

Are you sure it was a metal detector? I can't imagine the post office having one at the door considering the number of metal items that are brought in to mail. I have seen electronic article surveillance transmitters and receivers at post offices before. Was it one of those systems?

It's a good thing that I never took the wrong ammo box with me and had 5 firearms that had no ammo or mags that would work with them.:what: The ammo box was full of the last trips (yesterday's) mags and empty brass. I did find a half bag of beef jerky in it that I ate on the 40 mile one way trip back to the house to get the ammo box that I left on the front porch in the dark earlier.:banghead: Too cheap to by ammo that was way overpriced as I reload my own. No I NEVER would do that!!:neener:

or make a checklist for going to the range checking everything off, getting to the range ,all set up and realizing I left the keys for the locks at home, nope didn't happen

I forgot the bolt to my Mauser years ago, ruined a long afternoon of shooting. These days I'm rigorous about double checking and keeping my range bag organized.

Jorg:
If not a metal detector, tell me what that framed thing around the door is then.
Take a look next time you go to the PO...better yet carry in there, and let us know what happens:D

edit: It was an iddy bitty gun and it wasn't last week either.

I was sitting in a deer stand about an hour into the hunt when a buck walks out (turned out not to be a shooter though). I eased up the gun an noticed the safety was off, at first I was upset with myself thinking there is no way I wouldnt have put the safety on after I loaded then gun....yea I never loaded it. :banghead:
