"I feel the same way about Schindler's list "
Again, I felt that this was an important part of the story: Oskar Schindler was a playboy. While he was doing this great thing he was drinking like a fish, partying like an animal, and enjoying the pleasures of female companionship. If we are to believe the movie: that was Oskar.

I not only thought UC was a great book, I think John Ross is a great writer. I was glued to the book from cover to cover: that by definition makes him a great writer. Of course what makes me happy doesn't nessessarily make everyone else happy, but my opinion is MY opinion. I think sometimes people get all caught up in what makes a good writer, or great musician or whatever: the only real definition is whether or not the reader or listener enjoys the material.
I had never been on John's website before and really enjoyed reading Ross in Range. I spend two days reading through the whole archieves.

"The jogging scene was probably my favorite bit in the book. Here we have our superhero, Henry Bowman, who is a great shot, knows all about guns, also knows economics/history/geology/airplanes/etc.

"And he becomes a victim. Not to a supervillain, not to a government hit squad, but to a common gang.

"It really gives teeth to his subsequent battles with the gun-grabbers - there has to be a real and compelling reason to keep and bear arms to drive Bowman's crusade - otherwise, why would a successful citizen turn rogue and spur a nationwide rebellion? Bowman has to absolutely believe that gun control kills people, and that the people advocating victim disarmament are merely pushing us down the short road to state totalitarianism, whatever ideological facade it takes (communism, fascism, racism, etc.)."

Mulliga, you were the reader I was writing for.

Alan, tell your wife I've had the same fear, but things are going pretty well now.
