+1 on the 260 rem.... it will shoot farther and flatter then you can..... and twice as far as anyone should be shooting at game... and it carries more "energy" at 1000 yards then a .308 in an easy to reload cartrige with almost no recoil...
In Viet Nam we were using the 7.62 NATO/.308 Winchester caliber rifles to drop enemy soldiers out to and beyond 900 meters. The ammo we used was National Match and came out of the XM-21 or M-21 sniper rifles. I would look at a decent AR-10 and come up with my own version of a National Match sniper load to use. The .308 ammo has proven itself time and again, is easy to reload and obtain parts to reload and the newest military sniper rifle is the AR-10 type SASS rifle which means that the .308 will continue to be around in the military circle for a number of more years.
