I also agree that the Savage is a good one for the money. I bought a Savage Mk 2, the older one without accutrigger, at Walmart for $114 and it shoots nearly as well as my much more expensive 22s. Also for ammo, try the Federal Champion at walmart. They are in a blue/grey box and are usually $1.28. You will see a small 510 on the box. Excellent accuracy for the price.

The Savage appears to be the better choice.
The 10/22 has what I call Plank Steak Syndrome (also known as 1911 Syndrome), where you have to put in more than its purchase price in parts and accessories to bring it up to the level of its competitors.
The Savage may not be sexy but it's good-to-go right out of the box.

sarduy, is that first picture of your actual gun?? What extras do you have on it? also how much were those extras. Thanks again sorry for all the questions.

well the gun is a Savage mark II with a harris-light bipot and a tasco 3-9x40 scope about $150 in extras

r1fleguy, welcome to THR.

Most of us would agree that a rifle in .22 makes a great place to start.
My first "real" rifle (beyond pellet gun) was a Remington Nylon 66 in .22 LR.

But it's interesting that no one has yet asked you an important question:
what, exactly, do you want to do with this rifle?

Target shooting at the range? Hunting small game? Plinking?

Your answer does matter in terms of us helping you make a decision.
That Savage you've picked out is a very different tool than a Ruger 10/22.

Welcome to THR.

I would have to whole heartedly recommend the Marlin Model 60. It is an inexpensive gun that will let have hours/years of accurate fun.
