The rifle is a 1970's vintage Ruger M77 7x57 that only likes the 175grain Federal Classic ammo and I am not (yet) a reloader. For me I consider it a 250'ish yard max gun and only comes out of the safe each year for deer and elk since I have other more economical calibers for practice and recreational shooting. The existing scope is a Tasco 3x9 something or other (the model # is worn off) that is the same age as the gun which is now very blurry. I went to confirm my zero this weekend and I could make out the paper but could not see the target on the paper.

The one thing I really like about the current scope is it has a wide field of view.

There's some deals out there on Sightron. Also saw a Bushnell 3200 for $140ish.

I'm sure I'm gonna get slammed for this but I've had good luck with the Bushnell Banners. I have several 6-18X50's and they have worked good for what they cost.

You won't get a better deal than this:

Nikon prostaff 3-9 for $115 shipped. This can't last long though, they sell for $150 daily.

That is a heck of a deal, just placed an order. I'd been looking at that at cabelas since they have a lot of very positive reviews (4.8/5 with over 100 reviews) thanks! It is $160 before shipping there.

Glad I could help, I always check optics planet prices simply because they have free shipping on a lot of items, that seems to be a rarity in the online sporting goods world.

Another possibility is on Gunbroker or Auction Arms. They frequently have good scopes that are either slightly used, or new but the box was opened.

Also, MidwayUSA has factory blemished Leupolds on sale.

Egad man, $115 for a Pro-Staff from Nikon - I really don't think you're gonna beat that! I have a couple of Pro-staffs and they are nice glass. Though I cannot necessarily badmouth the Swift or Pentax Gameseeker.

Cypres, I have also had good luck with the Banner 6-18x50mm with AO. At $115, it's my go-to scope for non-serious-work benchrest-y type rimfires and smallbore centerfires.
