I recommend a set of rimfire rifle silhouettes set up at NRA distances to really hone your skills. You can order just the animals minus the feet and make swingers out of them so you can practice without setting them up over and over. View attachment 232832

I agree 100%. I started doing small bore a few years ago and it really does make you a better shooter. It will make you a rifleman.

The targets are inexpensive, I actually bought an entire set....and practice every chance I get. I will also say the targets I got (don't remember who) hold up to 22mag. That is also fun.

Then try it without the scope....real challenge....bench or awful hand.....real fun.

I have given serious thought removing the scope from the 10/22 and installing a set of Tech aperture sights similar to my military rifles. I like the apertures on my centerfire rifles better the the glass on my bolt gun. I might have been bitten by the challenge snake somewhere along the way. As someone once said, Ray Charles could shoot from a bench.

I agree on the round count. I max out at around 50 rounds shooting off hand. Fatigue starts setting in and concentration effort starts increasing dramatically.

For keeping costs down, 22 LR and air rifle off hand helps a lot. The closer deer season gets is when the 30 06 comes out to shoot the 10" gong at 100 yards.
yes being 22 was hard to find and expensive when found I got two .177 German 10 meter match air rifles to practice offhand. very cheap ammo

i was horrible at shooting rifles off hand such that i didnt do it too much. i shot better at 50 yrds offhand with revolvers and pistols than with my 22 rifle since i didnt do it at all. another range regular occassionally lets me shoot his flintlock at 50 yrds at a 6x6 plate and i decided to start shooting 22s at 50 yrds with iron sights at 6 inch and 4 inch gongs. with a cz 455 ultralux it was consistent after 2 range sessions.
