Sylvilagus Aquaticus,

Those signs at the Dallas zoo have no weight of law.

Ignore them.

The zoo is owned by the city and the city cannot post a 30.06 sign.

Dallas Zoo

The question was asked about the sign prohibiting CHLs at the Dallas Zoo. I have not seen the actual sign, BUT the following is from the Dallas Zoo Web Site regarding the status of the Zoo.

Because the Zoo is publically owned, under the revisions to the Texas CHL laws in 2003 I think their sign is not legal (though don't have my references at hand to be 100% sure.)

Basically the 2003 revisions denied local government the ability to post 30-06 notices to prohibit CHLs from publically owned property not specifically listed in the law. I don't recall seeing a zoo on the list of proscribed places. If the Zoo still has such a sign, it should only take a complaint to the Dallas City Attorney to fix the problem... we had a similar problem at Fair Park which was quickly resolved.

FWIW

Chuck

The Dallas Zoo is owned and operated by the City of Dallas and the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Board. The Dallas Zoological Society (DZS) helps support the Zoo. The President of DZS is Jim Howard. DZS is a 501 © (3) not-for-profit organization that was founded in 1955 to help develop one of the outstanding zoological collections in the nation, in partnership with the Dallas Zoo. The Society's only purpose at that time was to raise private funds to purchase animals for the Dallas Zoo's collection. Now celebrating its 49th anniversary, the Society has expanded its role significantly.
