Heretic time. I don't own an AR am I the only one?

I have AKs and no ARs. I could have gotten one a long long time ago but i dont know why i didnt. The price of 5.56 is inching higher and higher as of last report. 1000 rds of these stuff will cost you $550 at most while 7.62 x 39 of the same amount cost only $250-280 shipped to your door. But the AR makers and their advertisements has really dominated the gun world since 2001 after 9/11 bec of its modularity . And people who have money tend to buy whats being fed into them. THe young shooters are also conditioned to get one as they play video games using the AR platform.
The commercial advertisements of the AR has grown so much that it has taken a life of its own. It will be around in the next foreseeable future.

I carried one for too many years and I have ZERO interest in getting another one. The coolness factor wore off for me a long time ago, and they are indeed cool, but not for me. Anymore.
Wonderful, accurate, fast, easy, modular, light recoil, light ammo, ergonomic, cool looking; they are what amounts to an almost perfect rifle for many niches. And I don't want to ever shoot another one; more for you guys to have I guess.

I owned a Bushmaster for a couple of years. I have nothing against the AR platform, but it's just not that exciting to me. I just like older lever guns and bolt actions better, they are just more fun and interesting.

I had one, played with it a year or so, and sold it to my father.

Some day I will probably buy another one, and eventually do the same thing.

AR is a nice gun and all, but they dont trip my trigger in a way that makes me NEED to have one, let alone have one at all times.

If I were going to dump a bunch of money on one, it would need to be something special - like an early prototype build... But truth be told I would rather spend that money on something more rare and unique, like a Valmet or FNC.

I am cognizant of all the upside to such a weapon platform, but they don't move me. Same with any plastic stocked gun; the Luddite in me shudders...

I wasn't a fan until I bought one. Now I have 3. Kind of like 1911's in that way. One is never enough.

i dont own one either...especially in this day and age, a good AR is hard to afford ona shoestring college budget

I just graduated from UF and Ill probably get one after I find a good job

No AR pattern rifle here. Nothing in particular against them, just never had an overwhelming need to own one. Was considering buying a lower and putting one together, then Sandy Hook happened and the market on guns and ammo went nuts. Maybe someday I will revisit the idea.

Uncle Sam kindly "loaned" me the use of an M16 some time ago, so I'm not unfamiliar with the platform and I can see why some people really like it. But for right now an AR is not at the top of my list.

No Remorse!

Had one. Shot it, then sold it when everyone went crazy. Doubled my money and bought a 223 in a Weatherby Vanguard that will shoot cloverleafs all day. Had enough money left over to buy a buttload of ammo. I like ARs but really don't need one.

I have absolutely no desire to own one. I just don't get the attraction to AR's, other than the fact they are able to put a lot of ammo down range in a hurry what's left to talk about? Accuracy? Hell there a lot of accurate rifles out there that are a lot more accurate than an AR.
If SHTF ever does happen there going to come as us with more than full automatic M16's, so more then likely a semi auto AR15 isn't going to mean squat anyway.

That is the great thing about choices, no one is forcing anyone to buy something they don't want. I love my AR but that does not mean that everyone must do the same. I have no use for AK pattern firearms. They do nothing for me. The closest thing to an AK that I own is my FAL.

Not an AR fan either. Girlfriend has one if we need to shoot any poodles; otherwise, I rather like my M1A.

I don't like the "sproing" right there in my ear.
As far as looks go, there's plenty options to make an AR fit and look just right.

I just sold one of my SKS and doubled my money as of today. The buyer pretended like it s a cheap gun and he needed to buy it cheap from me. So I told him, you might as well go and buy a Ruger 10/22---- and good luck finding .22 LR ammo.

The SKS is a battletested semi auto centerfire rifle, not some pipsqueak of a round. The 7.62 X 39 bulk ammo supply is still going very strong and the price wont hurt your paycheck vs the 5.56. So once i said what i needed him to understand , he knew he cannot BS me with the price i was asking. He went ahead and bought it and i left with money in my wallet.

Am I the only one out there that does not own an AR?

If not owning an AR rings your bell, great.

i was not interested in AR-15s until I discovered Service Rifle Matches and how accurate an AR-15 can be.

While I have one, the tacticool M4geries with everything including the kitchen sink hung off the rails are not very interesting. I really like shooting my long heavy barrel AR-15s in 17 Remington and 204 Ruger.

I rarely shoot an AR with a magazine that has a capacity of more than 10 rounds and then, even then, the magazine rarely gets loaded with more than 5 rounds.

I like being able to assemble the rifle myself with the parts and features i want.

Don't worry about AR-15s disappearing from the market because you do not have one, I probably own more than your share.:)

I bought a Mini14 in 1982 and for a long time that has filled the semi-auto .223 niche for me.
I would like to have an AR-15 but the budget won't allow for it right now.
Also until we overturn the Colorado magazine capacity limits or I move, there's no point.

I got a couple cause everyone else seems to have one. They are too little to hunt with. Home defense I have a .45, a 9, a 12 ga., etc.
They are toys to me. Fun toys but still toys. Of course all my safe full are toys of a sort.
I never considered one for home defense. Bought one of those plastic lowers thinking of get it to run with my 9mm upper. Haven't got it to run yet; kind of lost interest.
I have .223 dies, etc. but have never loaded the first cartridge. I may if primers come down. I got about 2-3 gallons of brass, dread the case prep needed to run them thru my Dillon 550. (range brass, mud, dirt, etc.) Come to think of it my selection of powders prolly wont fit to well. (4831, etc.)

Would you believe that today in a sporting clays tournament, I won a door prize of a Stag Arms, model 1. Basically an AR. How odd is that?

So I go to the dealer. Look at it, study it and hold in my hands a free AR. Seems like a nice gun.

I walked out with a Witness Hunter 10mm and a nice VXIII scope instead. (I had also won a Springfield XDM subcompact that did not rock my boat either.

So given that I now was offered one for free and I still would not take it. I have concluded an AR is not in my future. I am glad that many other feels similarly. I like my wood and steel M1A's and M1 Carbines.

I was like that for the longest. I couldn't imagine paying a grand or so for something I used to use to drive tent stakes into the ground and do exercises like the "Iron Mike." Now though, I am really considering it. I have 2 Mini-14s and am looking at a PTR 91 an AR-15. I recently have had an itch for some semi-auto rifles and the Mini's just don't scratch anymore. I'll likely be getting one eventually.

If it's just a itch for "fun" semi-automatics may I prescribe a topical application of a product called the Universal Carbine modeled after the 50's vintage military 30 caliber carbine?

It's fun to shoot, easy to maintain and ammunition is a bit more reasonable albeit sometimes harder to find. Plus that, unlike the lumpy oddly angular AR-15 it's sleek, petite and cute!

I don't since Mr. Bloomberg and I are neighbors but I would if I could since I think it's a great home defense weapon provided you are not in a highly populated area with thin walls. Another alternative is the good old 12 gauge pump (I don't have one either yes Mr. Bloomberg disapproves also) the king of close quarters as they say.

I didn't own one until I decided to shoot Highpower matches. I have a whole lot more respect for them today than I did 20 years ago in the Marines.
