Is the HK USP out of fashion?

I had an HK USP .40, but traded it at my local LGS for a long gun a number of years back. I did not like the recoil.

There does not seem to be a lot of talk about the USP.

Are they still considered one of the better handguns?

I had one of those. As far as better handguns, look out, opinions will be all over the place! I will say I prefer the 9mm or .45 ACP. The .40 is just too snappy for me. Please note, that is my personal opinion, not a dig at any folks who like the .40.

Still top dog of the polymer combat handguns if you ask me. This is coming from someone who carries a Glock 26 and loves it. Now that I mention it, the USP is to serious, combat-ready handguns what the 26 is to concealed carry. In other words, perfect for the job.

Fashionable?

I've had one and been carrying it full time for over a year. I selected it for specific reasons and those reasons are still valid.

Frankly, I have no use for 'fashionable' in the world of self-defense firearms; it either works or it does not. It does work for me.

It is still alive, but H&K updated the platform to the P30 (in 9mm and .40) and the HK45 (in .45ACP) with the ergos from the P2000

I had one when I was going through my "lets try out different .40's" phase. Kind of big for my hand size, trigger was a little on the heavy side, not really suited for CCW; basically for me it was no big deal and I traded it in on something else.

I was always under the impression HKs and especially the USP were known for having pretty light recoil.

They make good duty weapons, and they have nice features. I own one and like it. I also own glocks, and I did own a sig.

I want a USP .45 tactical. I do agree most lighter .40 cals are snappy. I have a CZ P-06 in .40,shoots great. But i believe its cause its metal. U do notice a snap, but my friends polymer frames .40's are more snappy. A no not out of fashion,as u put it. But the USP ive noticed its $300 more than say a FN FXN tactical guns. Maybe a price thing

I could care less about fashion. I use and carry what works for me, including firearms designed near the turn of the 20th century.

Yup.

In the service pistol market there are too many other options that aren't overpriced and have better DA trigger pulls.

Still a decent gun, but certainly not one of the best (not that I think it ever was).

I've always been a very strong supporter of the quality and accuracy of HK's firearms, whether handguns or longarms. However, the handguns themselves (the USP especially/specifically) have, in my experience, atrocious triggers and just don't feel all that great in the hand. Also, while I don't have anything against polymer (my CCW/EDC is a Glock 26), I definitely prefer an all-steel handgun.
Now, as for the USC... that would definitely be my truck gun if I ever won the lottery.

I think what's out of fashion is the price tag. There are a whole host of equally well made and equally functional guns that can be had for $300 or more less than the H&K. I would like to have one, but I just don't see spending that kind of cash.

The only complaints are the prices.

The USP is a more complex design than the $500-600 pistols that are sold alongside it. This makes it more expensive, and if you want such a pistol, the higher price is justified. They aren't "the same". Build quality and complexity are what factor into the price. Why do you think Hi-Points are under $200?

I like my USP 45 compact. Not too big and can be carried cocked and locked if I wish. I know the OP was asking about the full size USP though but the compact is really nice.

How? Enlighten me what makes it worth a few hundred more.

I, too, am looking forward to learning in what way a USP pistol has a "more complex design" as compared to pistols like, say, the Beretta 92 or the CZ 75. And also, too, as to why they cost hundreds of more dollars than the aforementioned pistols.

Buddy of mine is an UBER H&K nut. Buys virtually everything civilian legal they make.

I absolutely can NOT stand the P30 or the P45. IMO they are no improvement whatsoever over the older USP. The new guns have certainly done nothing to reduce recoil at all.

To my hands, the new P30 has accentuated recoil over the older P2000. The same seems to be true with the comparison of the USP and the HK45.

In my opinion, the USP is the better gun in the large service pistol niche. If it were me going to spend my own money though, I would go for the P2000 - Much handier size, with all of the old school Teutonic Gnome Magic that the new pistols seem to be lacking.
