Is the HK UPS out of fashion?

I will be fair and say the used USP40 I handled tonight at the gunshop didn't have that bad of a DA trigger compared to other ones I've handled but it's bulking and unergonomic to me.

Buddy of mine is an UBER H&K nut. Buys virtually everything civilian legal they make.

I absolutely can NOT stand the P30 or the P45. IMO they are no improvement whatsoever over the older USP. The new guns have certainly done nothing to reduce recoil at all.

To my hands, the new P30 has accentuated recoil over the older P2000. The same seems to be true with the comparison of the USP and the HK45.

In my opinion, the USP is the better gun in the large service pistol niche. If it were me going to spend my own money though, I would go for the P2000 - Much handier size, with all of the old school Teutonic Gnome Magic that the new pistols seem to be lacking.

This is my favorite post so far: informative, and gets 10 Bonus Points for Entertainment Value and using the phrase "Teutonic Gnome Magic". Well done.

As others have said, my whole thing with H&K is that they are expensive for no good reason that I can think of, and with no real difference in performance over similar pistols of proven design. That doesn't mean I don't like them, and in fact I have always wanted to own a H&K of some sort, but the price tag has always kept me away.

I will say that the one exception, sort of, to this above is the P7. Having only limited range time with one, I can't intelligently discuss them, but I know what I like when I shoot it. I still can't afford one, but the design is unique and the function is superb. I really enjoy that pistol a great deal, but even used they were going for like $700-750 at my LGS, and thats just more than I am willing to pay for a used pistol.

My local cabelas has quite a few police trade in USP's right now around the 500 mark, all 40's and DAO. That said, I bought a 226. I have larger hands and the USP has never been all that comfy to me, which makes me wonder why an ex girlfriend years ago who was all of 4'11" with tiny hands wanted a USP .45 so badly.
