Now I got kind of upset thinking it was a little to risky to do but its his private land, they are pest & he hasn't seemed to have a problem yet.

My buddy named buddy actually lol ( Can you tell he's a redneck ) uses a Marlin Camp 9 to take hogs. Does anyone else think this is a little risky? ( Shot placement is obviously key with such a small caliber )

I mean, He uses crappy steel cased ammo so its not like he's giving them the luxury of 500 foot pounds of energy from a gold dot. He uses the junk plinking stuff.

He's taken three already with only one requiring a triple tap. He does salvage the hog though.

I've shot hog and other stuff with 9mm.. Hi-Power. I'd never think of using ball. Used either heavyish cast SWC's or good hollowpoints. It killed stuff plenty good.

A 9mm out of a carbine has more umph than you might think. More than enough to kill one in a trap and about the same noise as a 22 mag.

We used to kill hogs with 9mm, but it was point blank shots to the head (tied or in a trap), worked fine for that, but shooting them at range I would prefer my 6.5x55 or 30-06 any day.

They hunted feral pigs in Florida when I was a kid using a 22 mag using a Ruger Single Six pistol. Now I will say they where in a swamp boat usually but not always and shooting down on the pig.

I've killed plenty with .22 lr so 9mm will be fine in my opinion just shootem where it counts and dont take any oddball shots.
Failure to hit your mark means you get to meet a new friend the local ER doc.

IMO it's a better choice than the sharp sticks I seen a primitive hunter using on one of those hunting shows ! That was crazy he was jumping off a high creek bank down on top of the pigs as they walked below sending home his spear in the sweet spot.

Yep.
I noticed shooting at various targets that my carbine really whacks 'em a lot harder than the same round from a pistol.
And I get some added distance too before drop kicks in.

I've used both spear and knives for hog hunting. Spear was ambush over trails like Country spoke of and knives were with catch dogs. I was young and insane :p I'll freely admit! I've seen all too well what a pissed off boar hog is capable of when YOU are in it's sites :what:

A 9mm from a carbine, like any other cartridge, has limits. Just stay within those VERY confined limits and you should be fine. I would recommend the hardest and heaviest bullet that your carbine can fire accurately though. I don't think I would attempt a shot past 50 yards either. And that is probably stretching that limit.

I've shot 'em point blank with 115 +P XTP carry loads. Does a fine job. I don't know about actually HUNTING, though. I'd head shoot 'em with 9x19 and that'd be easier done at range with a carbine. I do know 9x19 WILL KILL a hog, seem to drop faster than when i shoot 'em with a 255 grain .45 Colt flat point at 950 fps. Making about the same energy, just seems to drop 'em faster. That's kinda weird to me.

This one took one round to the head from a Kel Tec P11. Dropped instantly. Body shots are just as final on a pig this size, but they drop RIGHT NOW with a head shot.

Sabbath....what brand is that carbine?

And is that a lefty? Or am I seeing things?

And yes .... Camp 9 And Camp 45 ...No Problem for Hogs, seen them used all the time in my youth in western NC

It is a 9mm Beretta Cx4 Storm.
It uses Beretta 92/M9 pistol mags...including Factory Beretta 30 rounders too.

The "Lefty" thing is one of the coolest parts about the gun.
But I'm not a lefty. However, my wife is. And we both shoot the gun.

With this gun, you can run dual cocking handles, one on each side...which I do.
You can also switch the ejection port to fling empty brass either to your left or right as wished.
You can change the safety over to either left or right handed.
You can change the magazine release over to either left or right handed too.
It's the most ambidextrous gun I've ever seen.

That is BADA$$!..................

I gotta many a 92 magazines....what other excuse would I need to make this purchase....:D

And I had never seen one.....imagine that!

Are they pricey?

Well Thanks.
I'm glad you like it.
I put a lot of after-market parts and pieces and what-not on it to make it mine.

"Pricey" is in the eye of the beholder I guess.
I mean, you can get a few other 9mm carbines for a lot less.
But...they don't have all these features either though.
So it just depends on what you are really wanting and why.
I picked up this one before last Christmas for around $800 including tax and shipping.

The tough part is finding this exact model.
As soon as somebody gets a few in stock...poof...they are sold and gone again.
But they are around if you are patient and keep your eye open.
It's easier to find the 40cal and 45acp versions.
But because of the smaller magazine capacities of those, they don't sell as well...so they are easier to find.

9mm can and will get the job done, especially out of a carbine.

I've taken a couple feral hogs with a .17HMR. One shot was all it took.

Nice Cx4 Storm you got there Sabbath, I have the .45ACP version. Like you said the 9mm ones fly off shelves so I just settled for the .45.

Thanks.
There is nothing wrong with the 40 or 45 either.
I just wanted the 9mm because it's cheaper to shoot....lol
I installed the Sierra Papa guide rod, hammer, spring and trigger too.
Made a very nice difference.

That's the reason I was wanting the 9mm version too. The .45 is great, wouldn't trade it for the world, it's my HD and varmint gun. Wouldn't hesitate to use it on a hog either.

Agreed.
The Cx4 is a handy lil gun regardless of caliber.
It's my "bump-in-the-night" gun too, same as you.
It stays right by my side of the bed.

I already have a 45acp pistol, but didn't personally own "anything" in 9mm.
So aside from being cheaper to shoot than my 45acp, I kinda wanted to add at least one 9mm "something" to the collection anyways. So, it worked out pretty good.

It cost a little more than I would have wished by the the time I added the Aimpoint, a Streamlight TLR1s, rails and other doo-dads...but the thing is such a great lil shooter that I don't regret it one single bit now. I'd buy it all over again with no second thought about it.

Fact is.....I "HAVE" to buy another one now anyways.
I made the mistake of letting my wife shoot it.
Now she won't shut the h*ll up about it until I get her one of her own and set it all up left handed for her.
She likes it as much as I do, and now we fight over who gets to shoot it!

Bullet placement is everything

I believe given a decent caliber bullet placement is everything. I saw a hog soak up several hits (one tothe neck, rest to the body) from a 44 Magnum and still lead us on a merry chase. It finally took a rifle shot to put it down for good.
