Well, as long as the elite aren't barred from their Constitutional rights, that's what's important.

Hollywood could get pass on gun rule
Cuomo, Silver discuss exemption

Feb 27, 2013

ALBANY — Gov. Andrew Cuomo and legislative leaders may exempt film productions in New York from the stringent assault-weapons ban passed last month.

Cuomo and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, D-Manhattan, told reporters Wednesday that the state is not expected to make major changes to the gun-control law adopted Jan. 15. But lawmakers could amend the law so Hollywood productions are exempt from the assault-weapons ban.
“We haven’t talked about the details of it, but the basic concept of should you be able to use these types of guns in movies? The answer is yes,” Cuomo said. “We spend a lot of money in the state bringing movie production here, post-production here. So obviously we would want to facilitate that.”

“We haven’t talked about the details of it, but the basic concept of should you be able to use these types of guns in movies? The answer is yes,” Cuomo said. “We spend a lot of money in the state bringing movie production here, post-production here. So obviously we would want to facilitate that.”

Cuomo said he and lawmakers are mainly looking at “technical corrections” to the controversial law. He said the Hollywood exemption may not even be necessary, but state leaders are considering it.

“I don’t know that it’s a real issue because they don’t use real guns,” Cuomo said. “Apparently, they have blanks or phony magazines or something. So I don’t know that legally it would even be classified as an assault weapon if it’s a phony gun, but people want certainty and there’s no reason not to make a change like that, to give an industry comfort, especially when it’s an industry that we want doing business in the state.”

Talking heads get a pass in DC
Actors and producers of motion pictures get a pass in NY
Police get a pass pretty much everywhere
FBATFE gets a pass on straw purchasing and 4473 filling out

Maybe we all get a pass as well? Perhaps the giant stack of gun laws don't apply to you and I either? After all, they're not enforced, they're generally unenforceable, and the people enforcing them don't follow them anyway.
"I'm a reporter filming a movie, officer, but at least I'm not from the ATF!"

They're talking about "blank firing guns" which are not real.
Yes it represents a hypocrisy when many movie actors are against guns and make movies with shoot-outs. Is that news?

Real guns firing blanks are used in movies, as are fake "blank only" guns and completely fake rubber guns. All kinds of guns are used. The Gov is speaking from pure ignorance, but that never stopped him before.

There is a class of people who can do whatever they want. Laws that the rest of us have to live by are amended for their convenience. The unashamed elitism of this whole thing makes me sick.

So New York is thoroughly opposed to firearms ownership and thoroughly in favor of films that glorify gun violence. My Italian is pretty limited, but does anyone know if "Cuomo" is the Italian word for "hypocrite"?

so, when do "coomoo's" ahhhhhhhhh security guys turn in theri 'high capacity ammo clips' ? ? ?

He doesn't know the what does and does not qualify as an "assault weapon" under his own law?

Already e-mailed my representatives

I have already e-mailed my State reps; I want any exemption for the Entertainment Industry OPPOSED!

The Entertainment Industry, by producing and distributing gratuitous violence is part of the problem, not the solution. When law-abiding, taxpaying NYS gun owners are prohibited from posession of "assault weapons" and standard capacity magazines, this exemption is high hypocracy.

It must not stand. Hopefully, my colleagues in Albany have let thier reps know this hypocracy must not stand; I sent them advacne warning.

So to own a gun with big 'clips' in NY you must be a) a politician b) LE or c) a member of the Screen Actor's Guild?

Cuomo is shamefully a Jew. I say that as a Jew myself.

No, he's not.

“We spend a lot of money in the state bringing movie production here, post-production here. So obviously we would want to facilitate that.”

NY also spends tons of money to bring in tourists from other states, and encourage people to move in from other states. Yet somehow doesn't see that many people are now not going to visit them? So much for facilitating income streams!

The guns may be adapted so that they can only shoot blanks, but the magazines are real. I would love to see Rambo doing multiple magazine changes every 10, scratch that, 7 shots with a semiauto hunting rifle.

This seems like a total non-issue. I can't imagine why Hollywood would be making any more violent movies in NY in the first place. With NY's new bans, violence there will be a thing of the past, so movies depicting shootings in NY will be totally unbelievable.

Demolitiion man...

I just want to see some cop show set in New York hinge on this scene/dialog:

GRIZZLED BUT HANDSOME DETECTIVE: "His pistol is an Em-Nineteen-Eleven, legally purchased and registered . . ."

ETHNICALLY DIVERSE BUT TOUGH NOSED CAPTAIN: "Damn, we're going to have to cut him loose . . ."

GRIZZLED BUT HANDSOME DETECTIVE: "Not so fast, sir. When we found the gun in his nightstand table there was a magazine in it. It holds eight rounds . . . the magazine was full, sir."

ETHNICALLY DIVERSE BUT TOUGH NOSED CAPTAIN: "More than seven? Hot damn. We've got him, detective, we've got him."

Not that I would ever (dead or alive) step foot in NYC, but if for some reason I somehow found myself there I would make sure I had a camera with me and say "Its ok, I'm producing a documentary."

Cuomo is shamefully a Jew.

Roman Catholic actually.:scrutiny: Not that it is particularly germane.

Mario Cuomo said:
We can be fully Catholic; proudly, totally at ease with ourselves, a people in the world, transforming it, a light to this nation. Appealing to the best in our people not the worst. Persuading not coercing. Leading people to truth by love. And still, all the while, respecting and enjoying our unique pluralistic democracy.

Hollywood uses real guns altered to fire blanks. Once a real gun, always a real gun. There are such things as blank guns, made from ABS plastic which can never fire real ammo, but you know Hollywood isn't going to dump their real guns if they aren't made to by NY whjile filming there; and NY officials are too stupid to know the difference.

Hollywood uses real guns altered to fire blanks.

It is pretty common to use "gas" guns which use propane to work the action and give report.

CG post effects are good enough now that "real" blank firing guns or conversions are less desirable than airsoft.

To wit, this is what some kids horsing around could do several years ago.

I would think that NY would not want to glorify guns and prevent Hollywood from filming in the state. Practice what they speak so to speak.

But, then money talks.
