Before I go and plunk down money for a holster, I'd like to know what other people have used and liked? I am looking for OWB and something that rides high. I'd be wearing a sweatshirt or sweater in the einter and an untucked shirt in the summer. Any help is appreciated.

I've got an S&W model 60 that I use in a Bianchi holster. I believe the holster was made for three inch barrels and mine only has a two incher. But, it does ride high and secure. I like the closer on those holsters. I also have one that I use with my 6 inch Ruger GP100. Not sure what they are made out of, probably nylon, but they hold their shape; gun specific. I got mine in a trade, but I paid less than $30 for the Gp100 holster. More secure, IMHO, than an Uncle Mike's nylon holster. But I'm sure some use those and like them also.

Steve...

For a long time now, I've been carrying my J-frames in a Rafter holster and matching gunbelt. I chose shark skin, but they have many choices of materials. It's a great company. When you call to order, you're talking to the guy who'll be making your set.
Ron Graham makes some great belt holsters too.

Two excellent "pancake" rigs are the Alessi Belt Slide and the Kramer Belt Scabbard. My usual carry wear with a J frame in either is just as you describe, and the Js carry high and close.

Will Bill's Covert Carry

SteveS,

I've had a Wild Bill's Covert Carry IWB for about 6 months. I use it with a S&W 340SC and I really like it. I've used IWB since the mid-`70's and this is the best that I've ever tried. I had the shield installed to protect the gun and my skin and it really works. Check the site:

I'll second the DeSantis suggestion. I've got the high-riding Mini Slide Thumb Break for 5-shot snubs.

It does such a good job of holding the gun high and tight that I very rarely resort to IWB (which I hate).

Coupled with a good CCW belt, sometimes I honestly forget I'm wearing a handgun (gotta love the J-frame!) The way the holster rides, only a fraction of the barrel protrudes below the belt. Easy to cover up.

I paid about 50.00, but I've seen them for about 40.00 on CheaperThanDirt.com.

I think it holds its own against some of the $120 boutique holsters I've seen.
