Where they tell me to go
This is the repsonse I just got back from them.

Not sure what they are thinking or doing. They can't even get on the same sheet of music.

I will have to find a new place to shop.

Thank you for contacting Home Depot Customer Care.

The Home Depot has a long-standing policy prohibiting the possession of ALL weapons in its stores. Consistent with that policy, customers are prohibited from carrying firearms in our stores. Where required by local legislation, The Home Depot will install necessary signage to reiterate this policy to all customers.

You need to answer Gilbert back and ask him if it would be ok to buy a hammer or box cutter there or would that constitute possession of a weapon.

(our stores around here aren't posted as far as I could tell).

My personal boycott of this business has been in force for some time, not over CCW, but just plain old crummy customer service.

They don't post here in Texas (yet) but I wouldn't be surprised if they start now....

Do yourselves a favor, folks, patronize the local mom & pop hardware store. Sure, you might pay a few pennies more for some nails, but heck, they'll help you find them and won't make you stand in line for 30 minutes for the pleasure of handing over your money to some arrogant fool.

Just my rant for the day.... :D

In SC, if a business wants to prohibit CCW, they have to post a VERY specific sign in a VERY specific location. I've never seen the correct sign anywhere.

That includes Home Depot. I've never seen the correct sign, nor ANY sign at Home Depot. If my CCW ever gets here in the mail, I have no plans to leave my piece in the car when going into Home Depot or anywhere else, posted or not, unless they have the correct posting. As has been stated, no one really knows if they want to prohibit it or not anyway... just depends on who you talk to.

I've had the same sort of experience with Wachovia. My CCW instructor mentioned Wachovia specifically as a bank that definitely allows CCW. Since I was already banking with them, I figured there was no reason to switch. The instructor said that he had personally spoken with their corporate head of security, and the guy was a big CCW supporter and stated that as long as he was in charge, CCW would always be allowed in Wachovia. This was all fine and dandy, I thought, until someone from another forum said that Wachovia in their state had a no weapons sign on the door. I checked my own branch closely, and sure enough, there next to the shirt and shoes icons, was a half dollar size "no weapons" icon.

Since this is SC, their sign is void here even if they really are trying to stop CCW. I have no idea what their "real" policy is, nor do I care. I will carry in Wachovia. I will carry in Home Depot.

If they prohibit ALL weapons, does that mean they will no longer sell knives, chisels and hammers? IDIOTS

There's a big discussion going on over on Glock Talk about this, but there appears to be conflicting info coming from Home Depot on it.

http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=203444

I'd love to know the truth here. There's a Home Depo just a few blocks from me, and the only Lowe's is half way across town ... I hope I don't have to start driving across town for house stuff (although I prefer Lowe's anyway ... but darnit if HD isn't more convenient).

This is not true in Texas.

Been carrying there for just about forever!

I get sooo tired of every couple of months people starting the HD
rumor.

Can you cite one store that keeps you from legally carring?
If not STOP CALLING THEM? You are gonna cause a problem
where none exist!

I'm sorry but I simply do not recognize the authority of "Home Depot" to deny my right to self protection and the tools I choose to use to ensure it.

I carry anyway.:scrutiny:

I carry anyway.
But do you want to contribute money to a company which actively attempts to prevent you from carrying a means of protection?

No skin off my back... I'll just shop elsewhere. Hope they change their policy. I usually go there at least once a week for both small and large purchases. A competitor is just down the street so I guess they'll get my business for now on (unless Home Depot changes their policy). Hopefully enough people will change their shopping habits and it'll make enough difference to make Home Depot management reconsider.

Yeah! Stop calling them.

THEY ALLOW CCW!

I have been in many, many, many of their stores.

Why don't we reserve the boycotts for people that need to be boycotted?
Otherwise, WE (those that carry) look real effing stupid! Get it??

Please, someone post a picture of a HD that post a sign prohibiting you from carrying. I want to see it!

I don't care about some stupid automated email some people seem to have
gotten. That does not count.

Here in AR a business posting the proper signage may deny CCW in business.

It has been a month since I last shopped My HD, no signage I CCW-d.

I have rec'd conflicting respones as well. Local mgt not avail via phone for comment.

I have a Mom & Pop Hardware store near me I use, Mom has two near her...I hate to shop and crowds anyway, Mom tires out with all the walking and such. Heck with it, I/We will use the Mom & Pop stores. Besides one fella is shooter that works at one near her and actually delivered an item to mom once since me and my truck were not avail.

No signs in Alaska, no one cares.

By the way, that sign really looks like it was put up by Home Depot

(Note to self...1. buy new image editing program. 2. Beg Oleg Volk for lessons.)

If it was, I wouldnt patronize the store not because of their policy, but becasue I wouldnt trust a major corporation who would make such a crappy looking sign.

Lighten up chas_martel!

I sent an email to Home Depot two days ago asking specifically about their policy and got EXACTLY the same response as Ohen Cepel. This is first-hand information.

If you take the time to read their response you will note that it states.
Where required by local legislation, The Home Depot will install necessary signage to reiterate this policy to all customers.

That would imply that, whether you've personally seen signs at store in the past or not, their intention is to begin installing such.

I don't know whether you own stock in Home Depot or what your deal is, but based upon their response to me they are a legitimate boycott target and won't get a dime from me.

Below is my response to "Daina"[/I}, the Customer Service person who responded to my initial inquiry:

Dear Daina:

Thank you for your response. I am extremely disappointed at Home Depot's
stance on this issue. The majority of your clients come to you for building
materials because of a firm belief that they can take care of their own
building/home improvement needs. Why do you think these same people -
believers in "self-reliance" - would put their personal safety in the hands
of others? Even a cursory investigation will show you that, in virtually
every single state that has enacted legal conceal-carry for the "common"
people, the violent crime rate has gone markedly down, not up. This is data
that is readily available from federal law enforcement reports.
Unfortunately, companies as your own, along with several high-profile
celebrities, continue to demonize guns and gun owners by reacting
emotionally to the issue rather than using thoughtful evaluation of the
facts. We are nut "gun nuts". We are simply law-abiding citizens who feel
that, in most cases, we are better suited to provide for our needs than
anyone else. Isn't this what your company promotes?

The 2nd Amendment of our Constitution is not about hunting or sport
shooting. It is about honoring the most fundamental human right we have -
the right to self-preservation, the very right to exist. And without it,
all other rights are meaningless. I pray the day never comes that I have to
draw and fire a weapon for self-defense purposes. But, I pray equally that
if that time comes I will find myself capable of implementing my training
and mental faculties to take the necessary steps - and in a facility that
does not strip me of the tools to do so.

I would respectfully ask that the executive management at Home Depot
re-evaluate their position on this issue. As a private company you have the
right to enact such policies, however ill advised. Likewise, as a private
consumer, I have the right to voice my disagreement with those polices by
spending my money elsewhere and encouraging others to do likewise. Until I
hear that a reversal has been issued neither I, nor anyone in my family will
patronize your stores. Furthermore, you can expect that this issue will
travel like wildfire through most of the firearms-related internet sites,
which I feel certain will impact your sales figures noticeably.

Please pass this email along to the proper managerial authorities at Home
Depot.

I'm not naiive enough to think it will necessarily result in a change of policy, but it's off my chest now nonetheless.

I encourage EVERYONE to send a similar message. You can send it to: [email protected]

Last year I posted on several boards asking for information on any and all known 30.06 signs in Texas. My goal was to attempt to maintain a general list of places and get a feel for who had the signs posted. The TSRA has a list, but the information on there appeared to be out of date and I wanted something from personal current knowledge. Anyway, to date I am aware of no national retailer chain that posts in Texas.

There may be a handful of retail locations that post, including Grapevine Mills Mall. In this case the Mall itself is posted but no single store in the mall is.

While I don't want more retail stores to be posted I would be very interested to see the reaction in my area if HD did post a 30.06 sign.

link to my short list of collected 30.06 signs

The nearest HD to me has a Lowes accross the street from it, I'll watch for the signs to go up. I have not been to either recently so I don't know the current status.

I just recieved the following clarification:

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.

The Home Depot has a long-standing policy prohibiting employees from carrying weapons in its stores.

The Home Depot does not prohibit anyone who is legally permitted to carry firearms from entering our stores, provided the firearms are carried in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Sincerely,

Kay
