Hoodie at a Pawn Shop

I've said all I want to say about this thread... something an uneducated person might not consider... a literal expression may not always be the case.. eg...
" I've seen it a million times... " not a literal expression... ( no one sees anything a million times )
" hot tar at 800 degrees "... not a literal expression.... only a reference to "HOT TAR".... no one knows the temperature of hot tar, unless they are a roofer... but when the roofer asks for a bucket of tar, all they say is " HOT" .. the word " HOT " means the guy on the ground gets a bucket of hot tar and hooks it to the roof line so the guy on the roof can pour it..

I did not try to cloud the OP's reference to an out of place look of a hoodie on a hot Texas day... " YOU DID".. by bringing up roofers, arabs and all the people in your community who wear non seasonal clothes...

Here is a hint.. a long sleeve hoodie is Not your typical summer grab.... a smart man would be concerned about the who and the why of someone so dressed....

The End...

daenz72,

Texas is not Arizona. High humidity will KILL YOU if you wear a hoodie to 'keep the heat out'. It will lead to heat stroke.

You don't dress like Laurence of Arabia around here in the summer.

So, yea you do judge people who wear inappropriate dress.

See the word discrimination is not all bad. We discriminate every day when we make choices.

Do not blind yourself. Unusual dress should pique your interest, and combined with unusual behavior set off some alarm bells.

I realize that.

AZ does get quite a bit of humidity during the monsoon season.

I also realize that its not as bad/high as parts of TX - My mom lives just outside of Tyler. Ive experienced it ( for only a week at a time ) and I agree, its stifling. I have a highschool friend that lives near Mt Plesenton (or something like that) kinda near Tyler too. My sister lives near Austin. I admit, TX is more humid than AZ. No argument.

That part of AZ will get weeks worth of 115+ temps and will have peak days of another 8-10 degrees higher than that. During monsoon season it can be :barf:.

Now lets go back in this thread a bit. Several other members have said similar things as I did in this thread regarding attire in hot weather.

I wasn't the 1st, and I wasn't the only one that did.

I provided source info to my roofing tar comment; I believe I added it after I made the comment to show I wasn't making it up.

Normally, people here like a source to reference. Apparently others take exception to verifiable sources.

Dismissing verifiable facts with uniformed opinions, stated as facts, doesn't do anyone any good.

Whats laughable about this thread going off the rails was the chopping at the knees of my experience that's verifiable with simple google searches.

What should have been more taken to heart, in that very same post of mine were my final comments in that post which were:

If looks like a duck it could be a duck. If it looks like a duck AND acts like a duck AND sounds lie a duck.... its probably a duck

Don't judge a man by his hoodie. Judge him by his actions. Evaluate the whole scenario in its entirety.

But instead, the name calling started; because I provided sources that showed my comment were right. Not High Road at all.

RetiredUSNChief made a good comment a few posts above that actually supports me.

I've done a fair bit of roofing myself, but that example became meaningless at the point in the pawn shop story where the guy didn't take down his hoodie when asked.

Bingo! He's absolutely right. I 100% agree. THAT WAS THE POINT OF MY COMMENTS!!!!!

You see, the hoodie man wore something that isn't commonly worn by most people there during that part of the year.

But the whole things needs to be evaluated in its entirety. He wore the hoodie,, he kept his sunglasses on inside (not terribly uncommon but still worth noting) and his actions were also odd.... he didn't comply to the request.... was apparently peering over the counter..... etc

There were a lot of little red flags that were adding up to a bigger red flag. I agree.

We don't want be judged by the anti's as gun loving paranoid people playing mall ninja every time something a little odd walks by looking for a reason to pull our weapon just because we wear a hat with a Browning logo.

Isnt that true?!?!?

We want to be judged in OUR entirety. Not by the sticker in our car/truck window, or the hat we wear.

Isnt that true too?!?!?

I don't know if you're deaf or not or if you wear a hearing aid or not.... but if you do, don't you want to be judged by your entirety?

We need to treat others as we want to be treated.

Was the OP justified in his suspicion.... I say, Yes. I would have too based on the situation in its entirety; not just because of a hoodie.

So I'll post it again:

If looks like a duck it could be a duck. If it looks like a duck AND acts like a duck AND sounds lie a duck.... its probably a duck

Don't judge a man by his hoodie. Judge him by his actions. Evaluate the whole scenario in its entirety.
