kokapelli,

The original posts were concerning the fact that "Critical Defense" rounds did not penetrate barriers. I was not referring to your specific post.

Although you might want to consider that using a FMJ rounds could be considered exhibiting "reckless disregard" when said round penetrates said SD target and causes injury to a bystander. No death involved, but you still could be sued by the injured party. BTW, my edc is either a Beretta 84FS or 86 and I use Hornady Critical Defense FTX rounds.

I really have no problem with people using JHP rounds in 380, but after weighing all the evidence I have decided that FMJ is the way I want to go in a short barreled micro 380 pistol and the possibility of over penetration is way down on my list. I would be much more concerned with missing my target under the stress of an actual confrontation.

There is a big difference in barrel length between a Beretta Model 84 or 86 and an LCP or P3AT. Hollowpoints make more sense (to me) out of a 3.6 or 3.8 inch barrel than out of a 2.75 inch barrel. Even there, the 380 hollowpoint is always likely to give up penetration for expansion, seems to me. Just not enough weight and power for both reliably.

This kind of thread is exactly why we need .380 acp bullets made from depleted uranium. That way we can shoot through beer bottles, armored tanks, and tractor trailers, all very likely barriers in a self defense scenario. Since critical defence and critical duty names are already taken, maybe we can call the new line critical mass and have a little mushroom cloud on the box. Don't think it'll happen? Did you ever think someone would sell anti-zombie ammo?

This is my 165 gr .40sw Critical Defense shot into gallon jugs of water. It was in the 4th one back. I would use Hornady's CD in any caliber.
