How can they all be No. 1?

I had a #1 .204 and was the most beautiful rifle I owned. My buddy really liked it and offered more than I could paass up. He also bought a #1 6.5CM from my brother. Both of us are sorry we sold them, but glad a friend has them.

Beautiful guns. These make a single shot classy. All mine are break actions that were more the affordable option.
You’ll never hear me knock the Handi-Rifles or T/C options. They are solid rifles and my experience is that most of them will shoot better out of the box than the No. 1s.

I honestly can’t explain my fascination with the Ruger No. 1. I’ve told the story a few times about how my dad always wanted a No. 1 International in 30-06 or a No. 1B in 25-06 and never bought either. We just never had the money and by the time he and mom had some extra income, he wasn’t physically able to shoot a rifle with that much recoil, so that dream rifle remained a dream instead of a reality.

After my mom died, I decided that I wouldn’t spend all my life wanting things, so I went and bought dad’s dream rifles. Well, kinda. He really wanted the RSI in 30-06, so I bought that one, but I bought a 1B in 257 Weatherby instead of 25-06. I had a 1V in 25-06 and sold it to my brother because he wanted it so badly. I’m actually refinishing the stock on his rifle right now.

Yep. That’s why Kool-Aid comes in a million flavors.
I like grape the best!

Just like I prefer the Winchester High Wall lever over the Farquarsen lever. I tend to bump the latch with my fingers on the #1 allowing the block drop rendering it useless, with the High Wall my fingers keep the lever up tight against the grip with no possibility of the block falling down. Just a little thing, but it’s kept me from owning a #1 from when they first came out. Never even thought about putting #1 wood on a #3 until the #3s in 30/40 got completely insane in price. Now at my age and health, last thing I need today is another big game rifle. I have enough guns for the kids to arm wrestle over now, and I’m taking my ‘51 vintage Model 70 with me! Well, probably not, but it’s a nice thought. They probably won’t throw my ‘98 Springfield carbine 30/40 Krag in the box with me either!

They were never my thing per se, but I have always admired their beauty. I had a friend from school that I used to go over to his house for sleepovers, him and his family were big hunters. His dad had a stunningly impressive collection of no. 1's. Two full cabinets full of just no. 1's. 25-30 at least......
