Adding some Ruger No. 1s to the safe today...

My first choice in a Ruger No.1 would be an International model in 6.5x55 Swede. Next would be the same stock configuration but in 7x57 Mauser. Either one of these would be awesome to have and make me a very happy camper!
There’s a 6.5x55 No. 1 International on Gunbroker right now. It’s expensive, but I would buy it today if we weren’t in the hospital about to have our baby boy at the moment. Figured I would pass it along to a fellow THR guy.

Ah, so close yet so far away! Would have considered it even a few years ago but with retirement looming on the horizon in the near future and just moving into a new house (fixing it up was like being on one of those HGTV shows), there's not much left in the budget for something like that.

Appreciate the thought though.

And congrats on the new addition to the family!

I was hoping you would snatch it up and keep me from buying it. I may have to get it.

Believe me I would love to help you out but can't do it this time around.

Let us know if you decide to get it; you can sort of hang onto it for your newborn son until he's old enough to go hunting with Dad!

Lol! I could claim that it’s his, but I already claimed the No. 1 in 257 Roberts was his.

You may have played that "I'm holding this for the little guy'' card once too often!

Or as Scooby would say: RUH ROH!

I have a 1B in 22 Hornet. The gun and the round are fun to tinker with. Would like to pick up another in a different caliber at some point, perhaps something else rimmed like the Hornet. Definitely would prefer a lower power cartridge, 25 Cal or smaller, or maybe a 30-30 or 44 Mag.

I would like to have a No. 1 in 44 Mag one day.

That's my story. I was hunting a 6.5x55 RSI when I found one in 7x57.

Think I would be outside my mind to pony up $1725 plus shipping for a mint No. 1 RSI in 6.5x55? I just paid right at $1000 for a mint RSI in 30-06 and that was a steal in my neck of the woods. Seems like the 6.5x55 RSIs are nearly impossible to find. Thinking about picking this one up.

I'm not a collector, so I wouldn't pay that. I paid $850 delivered for my 7x57, but I did pretty much luck into it. I had an RSI in .243 at the time that had a much nicer stock; I swapped the stocks and sold the .243. That said, if I were trying to fill out a collection and had the resources to do so without strain, I'd jump on a grail gun when I found it.

If I find a deal on a 6.5x55, I'd have to consider it, even though the pressure is off now that I have the 7x57. I'm not on a quest, but still have my eyes open. :)

It is truly a grail gun for me. I thought the 30-06 RSI would satiate the desire for a RSI in 6.5x55, but it did not. We just welcomed our little boy into the world yesterday, so now is not a great time for me to spend that kind of cash, but I may have to. Might sell a couple of guns to help fund it.

Congrats on the new son. He's your higher priority.

IMHO, the exotic nature of the No.1 in general and the RSI in particular lends itself to the more exotic cartridges. I started looking for an RSI in 6.5x55 and found a good deal on a very nice .243. Bought it. But it was a .243. I really like the cartridge. But I already had several nice .243s and the No.1, much as I liked it, didn't really add anything to my modest assemblage (I hate to use the word "collection") other than coolness of the platform. So when I found the 7x57, I didn't bat an eye selling the .243 and am now much happier with my singular specimen of the No.1. Coolness factor is much higher: cool rifle x cool cartridge. Unless you are working to build a complete collection of No.1s, I'd consider selling the guns in the more common cartridges (.30-06 among them) in favor of guns in less common cartridges.

My wife is pretty cool about my buying another firearm before selling something else to pay for it. We've been through that cycle a number of times. But again, I only do so because at this stage of life, the purchase of a rifle doesn't strain our resources in any way.

Eh, I don’t think I’ll sell any of my No. 1s just because they are all so cool. A couple of Springfield TRPs and a Remington 700 Sendero may not make the cut though. And my wife has been awesome about adding guns to the collection, but I think this will make gun number 12 or 13 for the year. We’re in a good place financially, but I’d like to stay that way. Lol
