Sold off my SCAR and an AR-15 to buy some Ruger No. 1s. Might be the only guy in America that’s getting rid of black rifles for single shots at the moment, but the heart wants what it wants.

For sure picking up a Stainless 250 Savage and Stainless 7.62x39. Both of those are unfired in the box. Didn’t really want a x39, but the price is too good to pass up.

Beyond those two, the options get harder to choose from. There is a bicentennial 300 Win Mag that I think I can get a good price on. The wood is gorgeous. It’s a heavy barreled rifle without a quarter rib. I really want this rifle, but I’ve heard of issues with the early barrels. Anybody have any advice on a 1976 heavy barreled 300 WM?

There’s also a heavy barreled 220 Swift. Same set up as the 300 WM. Wood is extremely plain, but I could get it fairly cheap. Don’t really have a need for a 220 Swift, but I’m sure I could find one.

In a similar vein, there’s a A model in 222 Rem that is the most beautiful No. 1 I’ve ever put my hands on. It’s a little pricier than the others, but it’s gorgeous. Same thought process as the 220 Swift though. No real use for it.

There’s a 6.5 Creedmoor that makes a lot of sense because I already own so many 6.5 CMs, but it’s pretty plain. Price on it is not bad.

There’s a couple others including an A-weight 243 that’s fairly plain and a 308 that I have yet to put eyes on. That 308 is tempting if it is an A weight and not one of the 50th anniversary models.
Decisions, decisions...

You're not the only one. Bought several AR-15s cheap a few years ago. Sold one today for a large markup. Looking for a nice Ruger #1 or #3 in .22 Hornet.

My first choice in a Ruger No.1 would be an International model in 6.5x55 Swede. Next would be the same stock configuration but in 7x57 Mauser. Either one of these would be awesome to have and make me a very happy camper!

I had a 7x57 RSI back when I had a dozen or so RSIs. It was a gun I really wanted and truthfully, after I bought it, I shot it a few times and shot a deer with it even but in the end I decided it wasnt for me. Sent it down the road and I dont regret it but man was it an elegant rifle. It was the only No 1 RSI I ever had. All the rest were 10/22s and 77 Mk IIs. My accumulating days ended and I got rid of all of them. The last 10/22 I actually sold last year.

I would really like a No 3 in 44 magnum.

Number ones are great. I bought my tropical 458 winmag probably 15 years ago, used for $500. It has honest wear and is fun to shoot with mild 4570 level loads all the way to max. I want to go black bear hunting someday and use it with a medium hornady 500g soft nose. Took a little buck years ago.

Beautiful collection.

I've owned 2 in my life... A heavy barreled .223 that I never did figure out a load for, and a .300 WM that I never fired.

I'll kick myself til the day I die for not buying the .243 International that was mfg in I think 1980. Original box with an old Redfield accu-view scope. My buddy offered it to me for $750. Last summer. I was buying another 1911 at the time and it wasnt in the budget.

I’m jealous.

I have one Ruger #1, .270 Winchester.

One shot in October to confirm the sights. One or two shots in November to put one or two whitetails in the freezer.

It never fails. My all time favorite hunting companion.

Did I mention I’m jealous?

That’s a beautiful rifle and I really like how you set it up. I’m going to try to find an RSI and put a 1-4X scope on top. It’s just a really classic look.

A tight shooting AR is alot of fun and super handy but an AR will never give me the feeling that looking at your collection of No 1's do.

Very nice collection.

Thank you. The scope is an old Leupold Variax II, 1-4X. I go into the woods every year with it set on 2X, and rarely change the setting. I did crank it up to 4X for a 300 yard shot about 10 years ago, and it worked fine. But I much prefer the shorter ranges. Last year it was 50 yards and DRT!
