I could maybe send it in for clean up/reblue of action.

Ordered a scope and that immediately went back to factory.

Dunno if that is a sign or what LOL

http://www.classicsportingarms.com/ruger-no-1-rarity-tables/

.280 rem, 26" rib, no sights

Rarity points by that scale are 8 for .280 rem, 2 for 26" BB and 4 for 4 digit serial number.
No box or papers, and not perfect. But figured buttstock both sides.

To others, if it aint perfect it aint worth diddly.

Bought it to hunt but couldn't see all that was there until clean up. Ruger proly fix it decent for bargain price. Just clean up the action and reblue, new cap on stock.

Like a pretty rifle but am so grouchy anymore synth and me get along better.
Must admit my dad's Red Label stainless synthetic was butt ugly.

That stainless in 35 rem would be my timber rifle.
Who did the rebarrel?

I found Nonneman on web. Could have Penrod Precision do it (not that far away).

I should have bought this 35 Whelen when it was listed on Gunbroker earlier this year. Nothing ugly about it in my mind. Perfect for an all-weather deer rifle. If my 250 Savage was chambered in something more substantial I would order synthetic stocks for it.

The rebarreling was done by PacNor, but it looks like they're no longer taking on full rebarrel jobs and just making custom and prefit barrels now. There had been a misunderstanding about my contouring instructions and the nocksform ended up shorter than I wanted, but their work was so beautiful otherwise that I worked around the issue. http://pac-nor.com/

I bought the original .270 1B in well-used condition; the receiver was blued as it came from the factory, and was extensively (but shallowly) pitted on one side. I took the action apart, polished out the pits and sent the receiver, lever and a few other parts to be hard-chromed by Armoloy of Ft. Worth before rebarreling. They've refinished other guns and parts for me and do a great job with fast turnaround.

That is what I should do to my dad's old #1. Hard chrome it and go stainless .35 rem bbl.
And do the black stock like in Marksman's pic

I have seriously considered downsizing the AR fleet but currently I am holding what I have. I am going to go ahead and sell a couple pocket revolvers while the market is up, hopefully Saturday at a local gun show. I haven’t been to this show before so I don’t really know what to expect, but I expect high prices and very little cash to flow. A #1 always catches my eye and the price is always too high, but seems now may be the time when interest has waned and I may be able to get a deal.

CDNN has some Talo Ruger #1s for sale right now @ $1,099.99 (450 Bushmaster) - $1,199.99 (.243Win.) - $1,299.99 (.44 mag):
(.44 mag shown with 20” barrel. .243 has 26” barrel, .450 has 20” stainless)

The old B&C stocks were not the best looking, but could be had reasonable.

That #1 synth looks more like an MPI to me.
They changed their website so no pics on it now, but going from memory.

Gunshow this weekend. Dug the #1 from the safe..........damn she is pretty.
If I score an M8 8X AO soon the rifle might have to stay.

Update:

Finally got to get these new rifles out and see how they shoot. The 300 WM and 220 Swift are SHOOTERS! I had to leave unexpectedly, so I didn’t get pictures, but out to 200 yards, both are better than 1 MOA for three rounds which is all I expect out of a hunting rifle. The 220 Swift showed some real potential with the Hornady 50 gr V-Max. I’m withholding judgement on the 250 Savage as all I had was some Remington Core-Lokt fodder to feed it, but it seemed to shoot about a 2 1/2” group at 100 yards and held the same 2 1/2” spread at 200 yards. Between the cheap ammo and the stock being a little short for me, I’m not ready to write this rifle off just yet. I’m going to start reloading at some point, so we’ll see what it’s made of later.

Well im bailing from the #1 club.
Couldn't find a gloss 8x AO for decent price.
Reg rings wont position scope where I want it, and the offsets wont work either.

Classic rifle, classic PITA to scope.
Beyond ridiculous and my patience.

Done. Proly throw it on GB.

EGW makes a base, kinda ugly, so would need to be on newer #1 ( stainless) w some contour to front.

But honestly, the crappy ring design ( new style being over center w the tops ) and the quarter rib placement not being 3/8 back for the rear......it just grinds my gears.

Enough to swear off Ruger completely.

Seriously. My MK1. 5.5 shot good but you could see the frame halves were not lined up when welded ( I cleaned that up to tolerable). The old 22/45 frame sucked. Barrel warning suck. Adding insult the 1022 sporter i had, shot like Imp Cyl.

Had two good SBH ( one old model, one new model ) and two crappy ones.....an old model and a new model.

Am done w Ruger.

Shame, as the #1 is the prettiest production rifle imho. But the supermodel doesnt cook what i like, so shes out of the bedroom and out of the kitchen LOL

Out of the whole house.

The ol lady asked me what ill replace it with....
Think she figures ornamental and not useful aint cutting it w me and shes next to be gone. ;)

Send me a price. I may be interested.

Sold off my SCAR and an AR-15 to buy some Ruger No. 1s. Might be the only guy in America that’s getting rid of black rifles for single shots at the moment, but the heart wants what it wants.

For sure picking up a Stainless 250 Savage and Stainless 7.62x39. Both of those are unfired in the box. Didn’t really want a x39, but the price is too good to pass up.

Beyond those two, the options get harder to choose from. There is a bicentennial 300 Win Mag that I think I can get a good price on. The wood is gorgeous. It’s a heavy barreled rifle without a quarter rib. I really want this rifle, but I’ve heard of issues with the early barrels. Anybody have any advice on a 1976 heavy barreled 300 WM?

There’s also a heavy barreled 220 Swift. Same set up as the 300 WM. Wood is extremely plain, but I could get it fairly cheap. Don’t really have a need for a 220 Swift, but I’m sure I could find one.

In a similar vein, there’s a A model in 222 Rem that is the most beautiful No. 1 I’ve ever put my hands on. It’s a little pricier than the others, but it’s gorgeous. Same thought process as the 220 Swift though. No real use for it.

There’s a 6.5 Creedmoor that makes a lot of sense because I already own so many 6.5 CMs, but it’s pretty plain. Price on it is not bad.

There’s a couple others including an A-weight 243 that’s fairly plain and a 308 that I have yet to put eyes on. That 308 is tempting if it is an A weight and not one of the 50th anniversary models.
Decisions, decisions...
That 220 Swift. She'd be quite the hummer and an excellent rifle for longer range coyote and fox hunting.

I shot my Ruger #1V 6.5 Norma this weekend. I’d forgotten how good a rifle it is. <1” groups. Others who shot it were very impressed. That will likely be my main deer rifle this season.

Added the International 30-06 a few weeks ago and finally got a chance to get it zeroed. Seems to shoot two rounds pretty consistently and then flings the third out wide. Did this with a couple different loads. I’m sure I could tinker with it, but honestly it’s good enough for what I’m gonna do with it as it is. Blue group was the first three rounds after getting it on paper. Green group was after it was dialed in. Two rounds in the same hole and then a flier. It’s more accurate right now than either of my No. 1 As, so I’m gonna call it good. A188635C-BE3F-4AE2-AAA4-F2F151167100.jpeg 117A232C-9B80-4B43-8109-9246E2468311.jpeg
