Adding some Ruger No. 1s to the safe today...

I liked my RSI w a reg old school m8 4x.
Looked decent.
Still needed rear offset ring.....barely.

Got new rings for my 4 digit, one offset for the rear again. Proly drop a Leupold 3-9x in em.

Prone works w reg rings, did for years on my first B in .243, ran a Vari x ii 3-9x AO full size on it.

Am not as flexible these days, and neck stretchin hurts.

Offset ring at the back

Old scopes.....some were gangly.
That helped on #1s.
Even if usable, I dislike the turret body slammed to front if rear ring.
Looks off balance

What scope issues did you have?

Mine had the fixed proprietary Ruger ring positions on the quarter rib about an inch too far forward for any of the scopes I liked, could afford and had the necessary eye-relief -- in the end I had an old 1x20 Weaver mounted to make the position of the front sight bell a non-issue.

I realize there are ways to work around this, but I ran out of patience.

Same here. Even w Leupolds and being thin and about 6 ft tall, older and w coat....some positions too much stretch.

Killed my deer OK. Went coyote hunting later that yr, from a stand, and looking one direction from it was a chore.

Be surprised what an 1/8th inch or so can do for comfort

243 win.
Blast was annoying.
Be way cooler/ better if it was done in .35 rem

I still want to add an RSI in 6.5x55, 308, 7mm-08, or 7x57 and a stainless 1A in 308, 30-06, 7mm Rem Mag or 300 WM, but I suppose those will have to go on the back burner for a bit.

A 6.5x55 RSI is my grail gun. I’ve been looking.

I agree completely. I have a No. 1A in 6.5x55 SE and got a R77 African in 6.5x55 SE as well. My R77RSI is a stainless .308...I'd swap in a NY Minute for a 6.5x55 SE or 7x57. I love the old Mauser calibers; I have a Win 70 in 7x57 and if I ever re-barrel my Win 70 in .30-06, it will get a 7x57 or 6.5x55 barrel.

Cheers,

My only hang up is that someone had the barrel ported and that kind of ruins it for me. I may still pick it up though. It does have pretty decent wood. 76EE8C89-8795-4195-9177-EE7F826E8924.jpeg

I finally got all the old oil off the one I just purchased. There are pits dangit. Think I could send off and have a new cap fitted and the tang cleaned up/ reblued. Its not horrible but enough to set off my OCD.

Took to a place w good lighting after cleanup to check the new rings for alignment and saw things were a little more than thought.

Still have the orig vertical rings. And being a .280 w 4 digit, is kinda rare per the table.

Now gotta figure out what to price it at.

I just wish Ruger did a stainless 1A in
35 rem w black plastic stock. Thatd be my perfect woods rifle.

Still havent taken the dang '70 sporter 1022 to the range to see if a bit of bedding will help

Am about to just say heck w all wood stocks for hunting. Would kill me to put a smack in a nice stock.

Hunted my Hawken Silver Elite and it was ding free, after yrs. Till my kid knocked it over one day

YGBFKM

Gave it to my dad. Two light dings. Maybe steam out. My tolerance for BP was gone anyway

Love the feel of a #1, but in blued/ wood they are too nice for me to risk hunting.
Why i got rid of my RSI and 1022SPC.
Fooled myself again
Think Im done being a sucker for nice lumber.

If you come up with a price on that 280 let me know. I probably need to quit buying for a little while, but I am a sucker for a 280 and a No. 1.
