I want something visually appealing, so I go looking for cheap but effective and I see these...my immediate thought is that several of these look a lot like cores for noise reduction devices. I know the big-name guys submit designs to BATFE and get the nod before selling, but I seriously doubt that the Chinese knockoffs even give it consideration. So are these legal, and if so how close would they be if I later chose to do a bunch of paperwork and get the blessing from the gooberment?

Those, along with the sundry collection of MagLite 'freeze plugs' on Amazon and fleaBay, look like jailbait to me. I'd buy something that isn't just shy of a felony.

I've always wondered if someone's keeping a list. . .

So long as you don't possess a 'sleeve' to go around them, they're perfectly legal.
Not necessarily. It all depends if the ATF decides they're silencer parts or not.

Some of those are virtually indistinguishable from the internal monocores of real .22 silencers such as the AAC Prodigy or the SilencerCo Sparrow. Even though they're not serialized, the internal monocores of those real silencers are regulated silencer parts by themselves.

So if the ATF made the determination that those "muzzle brakes" were actually intended as silencer parts, then they would be illegal by themselves even if you didn't possess a sleeve or tube to go around them.

Put it this way; they're worthless as a muzzle brake, long, heavy, and if you had anything lying around which would fit over them, constructive possession isn't much of a leap.

I would imagine that it would be a very effective silencer once completed.

Mediocre suppression at best, and heavy. Might be a different story if it weren't for the $200 stamp, but you're way better off with something like the $200 Po'Boy if you just want a cheap can that will work with little regard for weight.

And F1 or not, those won't work at all on short recoil handguns due to lack of booster.

I assume dbmjr1 has had a comment removed, and seems everybody else is in lockstep...too close for comfort, and not useful for much other than to turn it into an illegal device.

So i assume the market for these is TEOTWAWKI preppers who would want an untraceable device, people who don’t have the patience to wait for paperwork, or for people who don’t want to pay for the real thing. All of these categories fall under the subcategory of people who are itching to be tried as a potential felon.

I still haven’t found a decent thread protector. This thing on the little rifle is ridiculous.
