How common are .22LR guns?

I was thinking about this earlier today, so I wanted to post a poll here. Obviously I hope we can get a nice little discussion going as well. I always recommend .22lr for a first gun and own a .22lr Rifle (Savage MKII) and .22lr pistol (S&W M&P22). So THR, how many of you have .22s? Do you recommend them for a first gun as well?

Yes, I own both a longun and handgun in .22LR and I actually have plans to buy a couple more of each. Nothing beats a .22 for pure shooting fun per dollar.

How common are .22LR guns?
Quite Ubiquitous it seems. I think it is a must have caliber. One of the few it is easily justifiable to have multiple guns in one caliber. Then with the .22LR conversions for some guns it gets even better.
The real shocker for me is when someone is not aware of the whole .22 scene.

I recommend for a first gun or at least a supplement to a first gun. It is also a go to caliber for taking a less experienced shooter to the range.

3 .22 revolvers.
7 .22 pistols.
7 .22 rifles.
And one .22 cal air rifle.

I can't imagine anyone keeping house without at least one .22 handgun and one .22 rifle.

My thoughts exactly. It's the bubble I would have checked off.

I almost feel like a .22lr isn't just a firearm, it's a household commodity like a toaster or a hammer, or a working desk. If you're missing one, the house just isn't quite complete.

FWIW, one Daisy Red Ryder .177 for the grandkids to shoot when they come over.
I have owned a Daisy Red Ryder ever since I was 6. Went thru about four of them in my lifetime. 68 years old and still like to shoot them.

I consider myself gun poor compared to most folks on this site. That said I have 2 .22 rifles & a .22lr/.22 mag single action convertible revolver. I "need" to pick up a decent .22 semi-auto pistol.

In the past the term pistol was used for revolvers also. Pistol only meaning a sem-auto is a recent development.

First gun I ever fired was a .22. First gun I bought for myself was a .22. I get more enjoyment out of shooting my .22s than any other caliber - probably because I can shoot all day without getting tired or going broke.

As for .22 inventory, I have an autoloading rifle and pistol and a bolt-action rifle. Want a lever-action rifle. Keep telling myself I should get a revolver, but I'm just not that into wheelguns. The SP101 .22 appealed when it came back out, but then I handled one and remembered how much I dislike double-action triggers. The Bearcat is so darn cute I may have to get one eventually.

Rats. Every time stuff like this comes up, I have to really think about it and I inevitably forget a couple.

In addition, I have beaucoup gas-operated stuff for practiceys and funseys inside the house in .177 pellet and 6mm BB format.

One of my favorites right now is a propane-powered Mark IV [STRIKE]AirSoft[/STRIKE] PropaneSoft clone. Powerful, amazingly accurate for something which throws a plastic ball*, "hefts" like a powder-actuated gun, and "actions" like one, too, even to the slide lock on an empty magazine.

And, like others, at least four BB guns when I was a kid. And all named. The first one, of course, was "Betsy," and I still use names for a couple of my guns. Example: My Mossberg shotgun is named "Irving."

What the hell, they name ships and B-17s and B-29s, don't they?

And once I got into "Fifi." That was goo--ood. She's a lot of fun and knows how to take a big load.
