I hate the idea of not using someone elese's money for 30 days when it is available.
Assuming you are disciplined and pay your credit card off every month, makes very little sense to stop earning interest on your money to pay cash. Especially when you can use someone elses for no cost.
Don't like carrying cash. Should I ever lose my wallet the most I am out is $100 ($50 for 2 cards). If I have a wallet full of cash and lose it...we'll I'm out the whole amount.
Cash might be the "old" way of doing things, but it's definatley not the best way of doing things.
I have 2 cards, one is cash-back (1% normally, 5% on gas stations/drugstores or something like that), the other gives me 5% towards any new GM vehicle (I only buy GM).
The way I see it, they're paying me for the convenience of using their cards. I don't give them any money, I pay my bills on time and I pay no annual fees. How can you go wrong? It doesn't seem like a lot of money until you realize that I have accrued over $7000 on my GM Card alone. Free money towards a new Camaro when they come out
The reason I have 2 cards is because of what I just mentioned. I stopped using the GM Card at $7k because it's starting to get a bit overboard unless I buy a couple new cars. I do want a new Camaro and the woman does want a new daily driver though so...
Now if only they had a 5% card towards Smith & Wesson or Remington or something...oh man.
Not if the seller charges an extra 3% for credit card purchases or doesn't even take credit cards. One local shop won't discount guns, but they'll give me a small percentage worth of ammo/supplies/etc. if I pay with cash or a check.
Credit card for guns, accessories, ammo, and everything else I might buy. Food also.
I get points that are redeemable for nights at a hotel. What's not to like about not having to pay for lodging when I go on vacation?
I pay it off every month.
The "paper trail" doesn't bother me. I intend to spend my efforts protecting our gun rights, instead of hoping Big Brother doesn't find my bought-for-cash-at-a-gun-show rifle.
If I buy from a private person and I can handle and maybe even shoot the gun first, I'll pay cash, money order or cashiers check so long as I know the seller to be trustworthy.
If I buy from a gunshop I usually write a check if the gun has a good warranty on it.
If I buy sight, unseen from a website or some other place where you pay before you get to see or handle the merchandise, I always use a credit card. My credit cards all guarantee anything I buy with them even if the vendor refuses to guarantee it or take it back for refund or exchange. They will make arrangements for me to get a brand new replacement or they will refund my money in full and take the defective or damaged item I bought.
I refuse to do business with anyone that tries to hike up their profit by charging someone that uses a credit card 5 percent or more extra. These unscrupulous dealers are already making a killing on the gun and then they charge you FFL transfer fees, exorbitant shipping and handling fees and then want to screw you for another 5 % percent to boot. I don't do business with crooks like this. Anyone that greedy is probably selling defective, refurbished or stolen merchandise to begin with.
I run almost everything thru my Cabela's Club VISA card, then pay it off in full every month.
For online purchases from individuals, I like to use cashier's checks. (I get one per month free at my credit union, money orders would cost $1 or more.) I don't use Paypal unless the other party insists.
Doenst matter to me. If I have the cash I use it, if not I use the debit card.
I use money orders for online stuff with individuals. Dont wanna wait for my check to clear.
I dont use my credit cards very often. At age 26 I had no credit history, so when capital one told me I was pre-approved I went ahead and got it so I could either ruin or build my credit. Since its easier to get a loan with bad credit than it is with no credit, its benificial either way. I've got a good credit score though.
I get 3% back on my CC to use at dick's sporting goods, I use it for everything I can, and then pay it off every 3 weeks so I'm never charged interest.
Otherwise, it doesn't matter.
I hate to say it, but I'm surprised at the paranoia of some.
How do I pay? Cash or credit - whatever I have at hand when I come upon something I must have. But I do try to keep a cash fund on the side to help defray the expenses I put on the credit card.
