How Do You "One Kind Of Each" Guys Do It?

"We hate you cuz we aint you!!!!" As I have heard it said before .. :)

Awesome collection you have there!

Guns are not very good investments...

I spend far more on real investments than on guns per year.

40+ Ar Rifles? hey...whatever..

I only make a few hundred grand a year, have a house, kids, boat, college funds, IRAs, 401k, brokerage accounts, and a small gun fund....

lucky to be able to buy 2 or 3 guns a year.

40+ ARs?

Well as I pointed out earlier guns can be excellent investments, certainly better spent than on cars and boats.

But that is sort of irrelevant, I'd never sell any of them. It isn't about money.

Having satisfied the basic necessities, money isn't that important to me.

Right now, the size of my collection is pretty much limited by the size of my safe. I've got room for just about one more long gun.

Just an observation, but in my neck of the woods, these 2 statements don't belong in the same post.
I suspect most people on this forum make more than I do.
I could drive a brand new Lexus if I wanted, I just don't care about such things

Just seems kind of strange to me.:scrutiny: But then, I'm still envious, so maybe I'm just pickin nits.:neener:

Cool collection, you lucky dog.

I'm sure most members make at least as much as I do and could easily finance a Lexus if they wanted one.

I've never had a big collection of guns or knives, but I always bought the latest and greatest and tacticoolest. And now I have only a few. My glock 17 keeps me safe, my shotgun for trap and hunting, my .22 for plnking, teaching newbies, and small game. I also have a couple of others just for fun or sentimental reasons. I've got an ooooooooold .410 Winchester single shot that was my grandfathers (I never met him, he died when mom was young), a Mosin Nagant just for the BOOM, a bp pistol or two just for the cloud of smoke.

Ive gotten away from trying to have the coolest guns to having guns that meed my actual needs. I got rid of a lot of them doing this, and all that is on my want list is a full size 1911 and a scout squad M1A or socom.

I'm funny about having firearms. I get itchy if I have too many I'm not using, and I have the urge to sell them off or give them away. Already I feel like I've got too many. I don't want more than I can carry on me in a pinch.

I agree with boredelmo. The question posed in the opening post really isn't much of a question at all.

I could ask THR members why they don't all own Pearl drumsets with A-custom cymbals. But that would be stupid. Not everyone on THR is a drummer. And not everyone on THR is a gun colllector. Or has the money to be a gun collector. Some drive motorcycles, some have high end home theater systems. Some are still in college and can't afford it. Some have families and also can't afford it. And some view the act of shooting as more important than how much "shooting stuff" they can acquire.

I've heard the attitude of this modern age described as "whoever dies with the most toys wins".

Well I don't believe that. I can have fun with a few pistols, a few rifles and a shotgun. I don't even really need more than 1 handgun for CCW. I can go to the range with 1 gun and have just as much fun as with 100. And I believe there is something to be said for becoming super-proficient with a handful of guns as opposed to just managing to shoot 100+ a few times a year.

To be honest, this whole thread seems like a "how come you all aren't as awesome as me" thread.

We aint's gots the dough to buy that many guns, that's how. :D

I hope you're in a state with low humidity... 'cuz I bet it'd be a real pain to clean that many guns.

Why's he got so many ARs? 'Cause he has good chances of being able to make it through at least two magazines total before they all jam and became incapable of firing. :p

I personally see it as odd that you'd buy multiple copies of the same design... but that's because I'm try to get to the point where I actually have 'one of each'. At the moment, I'd rather shoot 'em than buy 'em. Darn nice collection you've got, though... but, again: I'd hate to be you on cleaning day. :neener:

AKMs are so cheap most people could afford to have a dozen. But a lot of folks can somehow buy ONE and stop.
I can't afford more than one (unfortunately). My 8-year-old is a cardiac patient with a lot of other medical issues, and his condition is such that my wife has to be home with him, hence we are stuck with one income.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=7086690

I own one Romanian AK (SAR-1) with a Kobra, and had to scrimp and save to get it in 2002. Someday, I'd like to get a second AK in .223, but that will be years down the road. I also own two Mosin-Nagants, a very nice S&W 3913LS (purchased before our son was born), and my wife owns a Glock 26 and an SKS. I did sell my mini-14 and my Bersa .380 (my first rifle and my first pistol, respectively) a few months ago, and set the money aside for the purchase of an AR--but honestly, I could really have used that money elsewhere.

You are very, very blessed to be able to enjoy collecting as you do. Unfortunately, for some of us the day-to-day financial nitty-gritty are prohibitive, at least for the moment. We're not poor, but we don't have much leeway for nonessentials.

FWIW, if I had a bunch of extra money to spend, the priorities would probably be:

(1) Somewhat larger house, on more land

(2) More long-term security (savings, investments, reserves of cash and food)

(3) Newer car than my 160,000-mile '97, say a Cadillac CTS or Volvo S40T5

(4) Gun stuff for a little more variety (Beretta Tomcat, Glock 17, .223 AK, maybe a 6.8mm AR, the new Kel-Tec .308 bullpup, possibly a nice .308 bolt-action, and a Mosin 1891 and/or 91/30), plenty of ammunition for all of the above, bigger safe to put it all in, and more money in the budget for going to the range.

(5) A boat. I am currently working on a fixer-upper frankenstein Sunfish I am putting together using a junked hull and an old Minifish rig I've had in my garage since forever, and my wife has a kayak, but if I had a bazillion dollars to spend, I'd probably get something with a motor; lots of water around here.

At that point, I'd probably start looking at collecting more gun varieties. But I am a LOOOOONG way from there.

I'm not exactly 'one of each' (three 1911s, one AR and another receiver..., two Glocks...), but I don't think I'd have much interest in having more than one or two of any given 'kind' of gun.

The 1911s each fit a different niche - 9mm, bobtail commander, full-size government, for instance. Maybe I'd have a set of ARs - 16", 20" and an A1/A2 20" for good measure. Don't see ever wanting more than one AK or FAL, or multiple precision rifles. Do have a wide variety of .22s.

I am boring. Once I get past one rifle, handgun, and one shotgun, I am going to get duplicates of them for if/when TSHTF. I would be more likely to have 10 identical FALs then 10 sporterized AKs and AR-15s. I know I am in the minority, but I do see a poo storm as a possibility.

SteyrAUG, do not take offense to this but i am merely stating what appears to be happening. Please note that i by no means dislike people who are successful, nor people who have massive collections. But it seems as though you are boasting about your collection which isn't always the best thing to be doing. Now i could very well be wrong but im just pointing out what i have noticed in the past couple threads. I do have to admit though, i wish I had a stash like that. Anyway don't take this the wrong way, just merely voicing what i see.

Some of you guys are freaking me out.;)

I'm still working on my basic battery - one of each:
Self-defense shotgun/pistol/rifle -
Sporting shotgun/pistol/rifle -
Target/Varmint shotgun/pistol/rifle -

How in the heck am I going to work on multiples of each when I'm still working on the battery? Each one is a project in itself, I don't have the time or energy to have 15 of each.
Unless they're Smith & Wesson revolvers of course.

I think it is possible that some of you have taken my post way too seriously.

If you were really as awesome as me you would have figured that out on page one.

Here's the thing. Locally I'm already a well known collector.

So many people have seen so many of my guns the cat was out of the bag a long time ago, and by that I mean Jr. High. By the time the internet came along anyone who recognized me online locally knew about my collection.

And in the course of discussion I was often asked to provide photographic examples of this or that since I often owned the firearms being discussed. After doing that for several years now, many people are familiar with my collection. I have even had some instances where somebody online remembered something about one of my guns that I had forgotten about.

As a result "white tile" posts have become sorta famous on a few of the gun boards. They also kind of evolved into a internet joke where everything is fine until I come along and post some rare exotic firearm and everyone hates me.

Dude, get out of the house more.
It's a big world out there.

I was outside just the other day. It was bright out there so I got the mail and came back in.
