THR seems to have an abundance of "my gun is better than yours" threads, but I never really see any "I can shoot better than you" threads. Granted, it's much more High Road to debate the qualities of a product than to fight about who is actually better at something, but I still think there's a place for this. I've only been shooting seriously for four years or so, and I'm a pretty fair shot, but I'd like to see what some of the members with decades of practice under their belts are capable of.

So post your targets, and tell use what you used, how far away you were, and any other relevant information, like your stance or rate of fire.

I'll start off with a few of my targets, all shot offhand at fifty feet with a S&W 41.

03.jpg

This is my best rapid fire target. That's two strings of five shots, each in ten seconds.

02.jpg

My best slow fire. Ten rounds, ten minutes.

01.jpg

My best timed fire (five rounds in 20 seconds twice) is a 97, but I don't have a picture of it right now. This 95 does have a couple nice little groups, though.

So how good a shot are you? I look forward to being bested.

Dang right! The proof is in the pudding! I finally started to video my shooting. I've posted this before.

I usually buy the targets with vertical and horizontal 1" numbers. I use each number as a target, and can usually keep a magazine of bullets in that size point-shooting at 7 to 10 yards. I am still struggling after my surgery with scar tissue, but yesterday managed to keep pretty tight groups again. Getting better.

I actually find that THR has more threads where people will acknowledge the merits of other firearms, but will state they it isn't the one for them. I see a good deal of respect for firearms as a whole and an understanding that no one firearm does all jobs. It's actually refreshing to see how folks here handle things. Granted, I spend most of my time in Rifle Country. It may be different there.

As for my shooting skills, I'm better than most, worse than some. And both of those are dependent on a multitude of factors.

That was on the wing and the bird was returning fire.

I've been shooting in earnest for about a decade now. I consider myself proficient with most handguns and with bolt action military rifles, though by no means excellent or professional level with either. I'm better with iron sights than most rifle shooters, but weak with scopes. I'm also good with slug guns. My scattergun fu is very weak.

That's true. Recently even the dreaded 1911/Glock and .45/9mm debates have been perfectly civil and reasonable. My point was that most of THRs emphasis seems to be on the guns and not on what members can do with them.

I shoot a Ruger .22/45 MKII (6 7/8" bull barrel) in a National Match league. I put a red-dot sight on it last year. It improved my score so much, now I'm about ready to take it back off again and see how many points I give back. Hopefully I've developed some "muscle memory" from using it.

I don't have any pix, but I just qualified for NRA "Expert" 2 weeks ago (woo-hoo!) I doubt that I'll ever get to the D.E. level.

I've got a Rapid Fire target on the wall here in my office where I scored a 93. And some other targets at home in the low-to-mid 90's. But whenever I shoot over about 85 on the Slow Fire target, I seem to spaz out on either the Timed or Rapid fire and blow my score for that set. I'll blame that on inexperience. I've only been shooting about 2 years. I wish I had started before I got old and my eyes got bad.

I usually use CCI Mini-Mags ammo, and sometimes CCI Standard Velocity.

I don't care about tight groups. I care about getting fast hits, in a person size target, preferably while moving. So how good of a shot am I, compared to you?

i am the baseline that makes everybody else look good. Like a lot of things I do I SUCK but still enjoy shooting anyway. I would be like the sheriff in young frankenstein that stuck all the darts in the target and then made throwing sounds while gene wilders back was turned.

That's how I am in IDPA and 3 gun. In F Class, it's for score. When I'm just shooting for myself, it's about groups.

Interesting gif there

When I used to practice at different local LEO ranges, I was consistantly among the top three to five with handguns. Occasionally I was the top dog, typically with a .45 and sometimes a 9mm. Those days are gone though since I rarely get out to shoot anymore. :(

The name says it all, lol. IF I can see it I can hit it.

That's exactly why I asked everyone list their stance and rate of fire. I'd say a person who can empty a mag from a service pistol as fast as they can while moving at a brisk pace and keep all their shots on a body size target has just as much skill as someone that shoots dime-size groups standing still. I didn't mean to imply that bull shooting is only real test of firearm aptitude. It just happens to be the one I enjoy the most.

If anyone has videos of their shooting achievements, I'd love to see those, too. There's a bunch of cool IPSC helmet-cams on Youtube, and I love watching talented skeet shooters.

I looking for any kind of firearm proficiency here. Rifle, pistol, shotgun, bull shooting, IPSC/IDPA style shooting, anything that shows off your skill.

I wish i could shoot as good as some of these actors... they never ever miss ;)

With shotguns, I couldnt hit a thing to save my life, with handguns, revolvers, I dont get to shoot them enough to know,

With rifles... lets just say I proficient ;) But i did take a doe this huntin season just shy of 500yds with my .308

with handguns, not very good....you guys would probably tear me up. I do think I shoot well enough to defend myself, but no dime sized groups at 25 yards from me.

I'm primarily a hunter, so much of my time goes into finding deer and pheasant, not just shooting. I can shoot a shotgun well enough to hit pheasants, ducks, and geese, but I don't make super amazing spectacular shots.

As far as rifle/shotgun/muzzleloader goes, my hunting shots are limited. Thick cover usually limits me to 150 yards, 200 max. At those ranges, I can hit what I aim at (slightly shorter range with shotgun and muzzleloader).

Then there's my pride and joy, bowhunting. I'm great with a bow, both hunting and on paper. I also practice with it several times a week. I don't get to play with my guns as much.

I can sometimes hit the ground if I drop a magazine. :D

However there was one day, when the stars aligned, I held my mouth right, and wind was blowing just right and I shot this one.

Ruger MK III, 22/45, BSA red dot sight. 21 feet, two handed grip. Rate of fire as quick as I could get the dot back on target. I think it's 50 rounds.

Still jerked the trigger once or three times.

:D

Cajunbass,

You wouldn't happen to be posting one of your wife's targets while she's in the hospital would you? :neener:

Hope she is doing well by the way.

I was inside this barn once with my 1911. I could have hit that darned barn if my gun hadn't malfunctioned..........:cuss:

I use to be a good shot but the years are catching up to me, making my hand less than steady, my reactions slower and the sights less than clear.
Now I'd consider myself just a "decent" shot

I like different kinds of shooting with different guns. Handgun or rifle and a little shotgun.

A while back I bought a timer. It's an eye opener. Like shooting at paper, the results, good or bad, are there for all to see.:)

A few targets.

A recently purchased Kimber Ultra Covert II. Good gun.

I have a nice NM Rock river Arms AR. Soon as I have time I have to work up a load that will do the rifle justice.

I don't like to shoot DA but do once in a while.

If my right hand is shaking too much I shoot left handed. I practice with lasers several evenings a week.
CTlefthand15shots.gif

I like plinking at 100 yards with smallish defense guns.
I consider a hit as anywhere inside the blue.

The new Kel Tec PLR .223 pistol is suprisingly accurate at 100 yards with ammo it likes.

2nd time to shoot a 642 snubbie

quick raise, two hands, point & double tap

7-10yds

I'm not much of a shot with it, yet.

That means I need to buy a lot more ammo and shoot a lot more! ;)

I shoot well enough that anyone around knows I was there...just don't expect stellar performance.

I normally shoot better when I'm alone...thats my story....:D

Mark.
