How is Ammunition Availability at Your Local Gun Shops?

I’m pretty well stocked but I still wander by the ammo case when I’m in Walmart.
A couple of days ago they had 4 or 5 different kinds of .22, about 6 different kinds of .308 and even saw some Win Super X 45/70.
I believe they had some 30/06 too. No 30/30.
There is one shop in the area that has almost anything you want but prices are fairly high.
Florida panhandle.

Do people actually buy ammunition at local gun shops?

I get shotshells and rimfire from a company who takes purchase orders from across alaska. If you live in a hub where cargo air carriers land. Getting a case of shotshells and a few bricks of rimfire in an order spreads the cost of shipping down, cheaper than buying local. For now anyway
Same spot I pick up primers and powder from. When they have some

I found a great ammunition supply solution. It's a very small gun and pawn shop that will order the particular 9mm JHP and FMJ ammunition that I want with the best price in town and/or online and I can pay cash and not have to use a credit or debit card to order. It's also the closest gun shop to me and near a bunch of other stores where I like to shop. Of course it's in a suburb about 7.8 miles away. But it's a nice bike ride there and back, and I still have 30 lbs that I need to lose.

FYI, I'm trying out the Sig Elite Performance NATO 9 mm 124 gr +P ammunition. Both the JHP and FMJ are rated at 1,198 fps with 395 ft lbs of muzzle energy. If my P365 and P365XL like this ammunition at my next range trip I'll start carrying it and the Sig 115 gr ammo will just be used for target practice.

Considering supply chain issues, anti-gun politics, the country going to hell in a hand basket, and the fact that I live in Murderapolis, MN, Home of the "Mostly Peaceful" Protest, how many rounds of self defense ammunition do you all think that should I have on hand?

Well-stocked gun stores .

“Ammoseek” is the “info source” of my .308 ammo, bought since early 2022:..

..approx. 6,500 rds. of New .308. Two guns I sold financed part of it.

With three “battle rifles” recently acquired, living 12 minutes from the gun club, and ammo prices Not returning to 2019 prices (don’t kid yourself)…and an Ammo panic will take place again…someday.

Don’t be grounded by the Next panic while sharing a common fantasy that ammo prices will drop
-across the board- 10 Percent or more.

I did on Thursday as my LGS had a decent price on 9x19 115gr silvertips, and I like keeping them in business.

Their shelves were reasonably full of ammo, and covering a pretty good range of of both calibers and in loads per caliber.

Lowest prices? Not really, but within 10-20% of the lowest prices on ammoseek, and without S&H charges piled on top.
