How is Ammunition Availability at Your Local Gun Shops?

With the exception of walmart 100 pack target loads (12 & 20 ga.) and the occasional box of .22lr, retailers are out of their minds on pricing. Much more cost effective to bulk order online.
Same goes for most anything else found in a brick & mortar store (esp. auto parts & supplements). I get that there is overhead involved keeping things in stock but 70-100%+ markups are not reasonable IMO.

Absolutely tons of everything. Prices still high though.
The Scheel's in Iowa City fits this description to a T. They have everything but LR and LP primers. Just about everything imaginable in the rimfire calibers. From CB caps to low velocity to everything else. A box of .22 longs? No problem. Most of the common powders are there. The only one I couldn't find was Reloader 7. Plenty of percussion caps and powders for the muzzle loaders as well They even have musket caps! Wish they weren't 90 miles away. The local stores have very little.

Ammo availability is good but no surprise on price. Last i asked for was 5.7 and was over $50. Heck even walmart shelves are full.

90% of the shelf space seems to now be 9x19... which I shoot plenty of, so I'm not terribly upset by that. But, what I don't like is the 9mm seems to be taking over completely, so now I'm having a hard time finding some other cartridges that I enjoy shooting. I have not seen a box of 30-30 Win, 44 Mag, or 44 Special in years (I still get it online, where I can usually find a better price anyway - so, not a big deal that the store never has it). Other rounds that they do at least stock, like 38Spl and 380 auto, are usually sparse.

Here in costal Maine there are reasonable supplies of things like 30-06, 12GA promo, some .22, 223, 308, 9MM, 40, and others. Prices are out there though. 30-30 and 243 on the otherhand are MIA. Even the local Wally World has some .22 and common rifle calibers in stock now. Reloading supplies though, are real sparse with all primers still MIA.

I'm starting to see reduced 9 mm ammunition selection at my local gun shops in the Twin Cities area. Finding 30.06 ammunition is even more difficult. Most of the ammunition that I would like to buy seems to only be available online.
Over the holidays I was in the Cabela's Columbus, Ohio and also the Avon Lake, Ohio and both were well stocked with ammunition. I grabbed a box of .38 Special as a stocking stuffer for my son-in-law and couldn't help but notice the ammunition aisles in both stores were well stocked with about any cartridge anyone could want.

Same. Pretty much everything you want is available. Prices about double what they “should be.” Which is why there’s a lot of ammo sitting on the shelves IMO. Powders are available for $35-$42/lb which is too rich for my blood.
Still no primers anywhere around my area though.

Around my neck of the woods, most common calibers now seem to be represented on the shelf, but often there are only one or two brand choices for each caliber, and often it’s not the most sought-after loads. Prices are roughly twice what they were pre-Covid, IIRC.

There was a large swell before Christmas including primers, powder and every caliber that one normally looks for. It seems to be slowly dwindling.... achedemy is half or less than before Christmas. Bps is also draining in stock. It may have been people stocking up expecting riots on Friday. I'll make rounds on Tuesday and see where we're at. How about some 45c for 70 dollars a box???

Lots of expensive ammo near me. I am resigned to just mostly buying online. Once in a while I can find some 30 carbine at a local show. 35
Remington is $3.00 per round. I can reload for less than $1.00 per round. Those are my two tough calibers to find factory cartridges in. Ammoseek is my friend for the common calibers.

30 carbine
I've been seeing .30 Carbine at around $1 a round for the past three years. Used to be steel case was a little over 30 cents per round with brass hovering around the low 40s, and that was in stores. What the heck is up with that? Most other rounds have come down within about 25 percent of their previous prices, but not .30 Carbine.

I could understand if it were a supply issue, but I've been tracking .30 Carbine on Ammoseek for a few years now and there hasn't been a significant decline in supply.

Just went to a new LGS one county over. Saw plenty of 9mm, .308 in bulk amounts, .30-30 for $30 a box that I should have jumped on. They had a surprisingly large supply of 10, 12, 16, 20, and 28 gauge but the only .410 bore they had was buck shot. Guy said the bird load .410s get bought up as soon as they come in. Had lots of agulia .22 LR and plenty of 5.56

It's hit or miss around here and depends on the day of the week. Ammo is relatively plentiful until pay days and weekends then is non existent. Hoarding is still a systemic problem at least for our local areas. Re-loading components are the same way. A few shop owners are still limiting quantity's of certain items you can purchase in an effort to try giving everyone a chance to stay supplied.
I even saw one shop owner refuse to sell to an out of state customer.

The Lawton Academy store has a plentiful supply of popular handgun and rifle ammunition. Ditto for the Atwoods store. The Oklahoma Atwoods stores had a "buy two get one free" sale that lasted for a week or more.
Yeah dad got a decent amount of Winchester M80 (15 bucks a box!) (We sold like 2/3rds of it at the very next show for 16 a box plus tax) and 380 and 9mm hollow point ammo for the business cause with the BTGO discount sale it was cheaper than Chattanooga lol. Then what is funny is I went by Walmart last week and they had a decent amount of Winchester M80 for 22 bucks a box!? Yikes. The Yukon OK Walmart has had 30-06, 308, 270 and even some FGMM(!!!) 6.5 Creedmoor for a while now.
Edit, if the Atwoods stores had 6.5 PRC during that I would have bought all the Yukon and Mustang ones had lol.

Hugh volumes of 9mm available. Other calibers available too, include .30 Carry. I visited the local Cabelas and one other store today.

Prices are high for 9mm -- averaging over .40 per round for target ammo. Bulk 9mm target ammo is now available on the web for prices as low as .25 a round when buying 1000 rounds (see Osage County Guns for their latest sale. And that price is "shipped." ) but most 9mm target ammo (e.g., FMJ) prices are closer to .30 a round or a tad more on the web, with some going to .40+. Clearly, a lot of retailers ordered 9mm at peak prices and are stuck with it now.
