How is the new S&W Victory model 22lr

I once posted that I thought Savage made a poor choice in naming its rifle "Axis", a term that has a bad taste for those of my generation. Some posters replied that I was being silly, and several had no idea of the WWII meaning of the word.

Personally, I agree on the use of Victory model, not only because of the historical association, but because it adds to the already massive confusion about the term as applied to the original guns. I also didn't like S&W using the name Chiefs Special for an auto pistol and Ladysmith for a .38 J frame, again because of further confusion for collectors.

I am neither offended nor confused by Smith and Wesson naming a product after a nearly 70 year-old revolver. I am a great admirer of all things model 10, but just because it was used in the Second World War doesn't make it a holy object.

I also have enough maturity not to get upset about naming another firearm "Axis" knowing that an axis is a fixed point in space that other stuff revolves around. Now if they came out with a Luger clone that was called The Rome-Tokyo-Berlin Axis Commemorative Model, I would be a little puzzled and bemused. There are enough really offensive things going on in this world that anger me then stuff like that.

I bought one yesterday and ran 100 CCI thru it today. I don't care what they call it, I like the pistol. No hiccups of any kind, nice visible fiber optic sights, and very accurate. I have no issue with the trigger whatsoever. Maybe not the best trigger out there, but I'm not yearning for VQ or Kidd to come out with a replacement.

The VQ barrel...we'll see. Then I'll need to mount the sight rail and get into that.

But the gun itself has great fit and finish and a reasonable price.

the new victory is getting great reviews.
with VQ working on it, it may eat into both buckmark n mark 3 sales.
ruger had a lock on that price point but no more.
it may not be pretty but looks to be a better gun.
being able to install a custom VQ barrel without a smith is amazing.
i'll be getting one as soon as VQ comes out with the new trigger.
the factory trigger runs about 3 1/2 lbs, too heavy for precision work.
