1 year

Until about a year ago here in PR the waiting period used to be 1 year while u got investigated. Law got changed to 90 days must issue no matter what.

CCW in Texas

  1. took my class in Jan
  2. DPS received my packet on Jan.30
  3. received letter Feb 26
  4. Called and was told that my license was sent out to be made and then came back with a blurry picture, had to be reissued to DPS from the license contract company. That was 3 weeks ago
  5. Called once a week and website still said that it was processing application > day 65.
  6. I called again and they connected me to a Supervisor right away.
  7. License was mailed/issued yesterday. should have it by the end of the week
What a beating it was. Everyone besides one of the people at the Texas DPS office seemed so negative on the phone. I always felt as if they were going to chew my ass off for calling to check

Thank god they make it so you can start the renewal process 6 months out, I am sure I will need it

I put less than a week, because after 2 or 3 days South Dakota you can pick up your temporary permit until your laminated one comes in a couple weeks. The temporary permit is just as good as the real one, as it allows you to carry and purchase handguns without a waiting period, but it's just a sheet of paper and not a card. So while it's technically a couple weeks until you get your actual permit, you get all the benefits in a couple days.

South Dakota isn't the best CCW state in the country, but it's definitely up there. ;)

PA permission to wander around loose in public heavily armed: 45 days
NJ permission to buy any sort of firearm at all: 10 1/2 months. You can build a human infant faster than that.

82 days -Indiana

82 Days!

I just got off the phone with the very nice woman at the ISP Firearms Licensing Section. I was approved yesterday. I should have my permit in my hands in the next day or two.

The odd thing about this is my g/f applied the same day and they had no record of her application in the system at this time. The woman on the phone told me that they are still working on Dec and Jan applications.

We submitted ours together on Jan 12th.

I think Ct is shall issue. They need a valid reason such as domestic orders against you, or felony crimes or certain misdemeanor crimes regarding domestic violence that all other states use to disqualify you from.

Connecticut is discretionary issue when you factor in the suitability clause, which gives the issueing authority a broad spectrum by which they can subjectively deny an application or revoke a permit.

From the Board of Firearms Permit Examiners Website:
Q25. Is it true that I must be issued a permit if I do not have any of the convictions or events listed in Section 29-28?

A. No. Even when there is no criminal record of any kind, the issuing authority is entitled to consider anything which pertains to the conduct, judgment, character, reputation, habits, behavior, physical condition, mental condition, etc., of the seeker of the permit – to the extent that it bears on the question of the suitability of the individual to carry handguns. While all of the above may be considered, a permit may be denied (or revoked) only for just and proper cause. The issuing authority may not be arbitrary or capricious in refusing a permit.

My first permit was a PA Resident permit, and it took about 3-4 weeks.

Unfortunately, now that I've moved to CT, it's a completely different story. I'm coming up on the six month anniversary of my CT resident application. Frankly, I think it is misleading to call CT a "shall-issue" issue state for two reasons. The first is that if the local issuing authority can come up with any good reason (subject to wide discretion, it can only be overridden if it is "arbitrary and capricious") they can deny you. Second, since the CT courts have struck down the 8-week deadline, the issuing authority can just sit on your application until you die.

I think CT is probably easier to get non-resident permits from, since the state police/DPS folks are much more gun-friendly than the local PDs. Connecticut only looks like a gun paradise compared to its neighbors, it really leaves a lot to be desired. I love it here, but the gun laws need serious work.

It took me 9 months to get mine back. :scrutiny: :uhoh: State of Tn had to make sure What I don't know /
But they were quick enough to take $$
Last school I went to also caused me to have to wait on picking up a springfield for 3 day also.
State keeps saying paper work wasn't recieved , Really I have signed confirmation, From you look in file
So later oh I guess we do have it , Will swnd it out in am
So aalways make sure to get confirmation.

Las Vegas:

Turned in the paperwork/ got fingerprinted/ got picture taken on a Tuesday. The CCW came in the mail exactly 4 weeks and 2 days later on a Thursday.

What amazes me is, they got my fingerprints, picture, and a thorough background check... but they'll only take a money order or a cashier's check.

About 20 minutes, but that's only because I paid the extra dollar and got the laminated wallet sized copy of my permit. Had I not gotten that, I'd have been outta there in 15.

Is PA agreat state or what?

45 days??? What part of PA do you live in?? It surely can't be the red part in the middle!

What mp510 said.

Additionally, the CT law pertaining to application for a Permit to Carry does not include the words "shall issue" or "may issue." These terms are what define shall-issue or may-issue. CT is often listed as either, however, since the state normally acts like a "shall-issue" state despite being able to use it's discretion on who gets a permit.

@nrawling - I was unaware that a court had ruled the time limit was discretionary. Sure enough I go to look at the law and I see this "Time limit is directory provision not mandatory."(29-28a) (Red text is court references, purple is changes in the law by the legislature.) This ruling is unfortunate because of the very clear wording of that provision:
"The local authority shall, not later than eight weeks after a sufficient application for a temporary state permit has been made, inform the applicant that such applicant's request for a temporary state permit has been approved or denied."

AND

"The commissioner shall, not later than eight weeks after receiving an application indicating approval from the local authority, inform the applicant in writing that the applicant's application for a state permit has been approved or denied, or that the results of the national criminal history records check have not been received."

Was that ruling made within the last 6 months? I don't seem to remember it while reading the law before getting my permit. I'd call around the PD to see what the holdup is.

Anyone know how to look up CT Judicial decisions?

I can't even remember... I want to say my FL took 2-3 months, PA might have been a little faster. Out of state for both so it's understandable.

rxraptor02,

Thanks for confuriming my fears.:( I renewed my Indiana Licesnse to Carry Handgun to a life time license Feb 21st. I keep checking the mail box. Got my last one in a two week turn around. Guess I need wait till Memorial Day to get mine.

Well, since I started this thread I should probably let y'all know I now get to put myself into the "within 2 weeks" category. :D

Now I'm actually legal :what: ;) :D

my first ccw permit took about five minutes, I got hassled for carrying by a deputy sheriff in Nevada thirty-five years ago and next morning had coffee with the county sheriff. After coffee I had my permit in about ten minutes. Since then, I've moved to Oregon and the average time is half an hour, part of which is coffee drinking time also.

My friends here in WA that have their CPL all got theirs in about three days. Mine however, took more than a month. When I called them, they said that my CPL got held up in the Juvenile Backgrounds department. The lady I spoke to told me that someone was sick so it was taking longer (?).

When I finally got my CPL it wasn't laminated, even though I had paid for lamination. I decided not to complain, worried that if I ever gave it back, I would never see it again.

CCH is new in Kansas... I submitted my app in mid january, got my CCH a few weeks ago. They didn't start sending out the first licenses until January 1 this year.
