How many buy ammo for guns you don't own yet?

I have, but it has to be either a great deal or hard to find obsolete ammo.

I got a screaming deal on a box of 19 rounds of 7mm Mauser (a round was missing from an otherwise new box so they marked it way down.) I also bought 400 rds of Carcano surplus ammo for the Carcano I have yet to buy...

I have a few calibers for guns I do not own, cannot say I bought any of it.

No.

But i do buy mags for guns i don't own yet.
Never done that either, although once a guy I worked with gave me a stick magazine he found along the road while he was jogging out in the country. I still have it. No idea what it fits.

In my case it's not ammunition, but magazines. Somewhere along the line, I acquired some 1911 magazines in 9mm for a Springfield Armory Government model. Now I am in search of a 1911 in 9mm to go with the magazines. Use that to justify a purchase of a new firearm for the collection.

When I order a gun, I also order ammo for it, and an extra mag or two. That way, when the weapon gets here, I can hit the range.

If it's a really good deal. I don't own a 30-06, my brother does. I still have 500rds.
I'll buy it if someone close owns the firearm for it. Never know when they'll need a few.
If the current anti trend continues, it'll be the ammo that gets outlawed, not the guns.

I don't do it often, but I have a few boxes of ammo for guns I "know" I'm going to buy. Nothing exotic, for now some .38 and .45 and two boxes of 45-70. Hey, it never hurts to have a few extra rounds on hand.

Interesting point others have brought up I will have to buy some mags in addition to the 7.62x39 before I actually get the rifle. My fiancee gets a washer and I get a WAS-R. Funny how things work...

Sometimes, for other family members. Especially if i have recently used or have plans of using one of their pieces.

I often buy ammo in the family's official calibers (common calibers that we've all agreed in principle to keep some or all of the guns for at each of our houses) with the intention of keeping other family members stocked up. Although these are calibers I own as well, some of them end up in "guns I don't own".

i have not bought any ammo for a gun i dont own (yet)
but i have bought reloading equipment for a cal i dont own (yet)

bought 800 50AE BRASS before i got the 50,
and now i have picked up 800, 308 brass for that future 308:D

i did buy all the ammo K-MART had marked down a few months back and traded most of it for a new gun. got some 20ga .50 box, 3006 $1.25 box, 3030 $1.00 box. should have seen the looks i got at the check out

I only buy ammo I don't own a gun for if it's of interest to me and I want to buy a gun that uses that cartridge anyway. That's how I got into 9mm Flobert rimfire. Found a bunch of ammo cheap then started looking for the gun to fit it.

I will buy common ammo if the price is right. It makes good barter or resell material. Since I handload for almost all my guns, I don't usually keep any of the common ammo for myself.

I have picked up several boxes of .45 Long Colt cowboy ammo at less than 1\2 of the current price. When I get the conversion cylinders for my Pietta clone of a Remington NM 1858 .44 and my Pietta clone of a Colt 1851 Navy .44 I will have ammo ready and as I shoot it I will have brass to reload . At todays prices the ammo cost less than the price of .45 Long Colt brass today.

I'm considering buying 7.62x39 for the first time. I think it's a steal. Thought about buying milsurp '06 a while ago but didn't.

The only caliber I HAVE bought before the gun was 10mm way back in the 80s.

I buy ammo for friends' guns all the time so I don't have to shoot their ammo. Makes me feel better inside. I am thinking about stocking up on .223/5.56 for the AR I haven't finished building. My only concern is going to pick up a small but oddly heavy box labeled "EXPLOSIVE" from the front desk in my apartment building. :)

Not Me. I Actually Only Want One More Gun, And It Is A Caliber That I Already Have. So For Me, I Will Just Buy / Make Ammo For What I Have.

Well, there I was at the flea market, saw some 30-30 and asked the lady, how much? She said $2 for all of it including some .35 Remington (don't have a use for it but you never know,my Contender calls)

not me, unless some great deal came along and I could not pass it up.
Then maybe I would look at getting a gun to shoot it or resale it for profit.

I have a single box of .223 "just in case" I ever need to reload an AR. There are a few in the family so it isn't completely out there.
