How many buy ammo for guns you don't own yet?

Yes. I had a gift certificate to burn (about to expire), the NJ purchase permits were in, I just needed to pick a model. So I bought a box of .45 at Dick's.

Don't buy it if I don't already own a gun for it BUT I keep ammo for guns that I've gotten rid of(just in case). I HAVE bought grip panels for pistols that I don't own, yet.

never have but i did say to myself "should have bought it when it was cheap" when trying to find some 8x56r

If I find a killer deal on something I plan to own at some time, possibly. I found 45/70 for $9 a box, and bought all 7 they had. If I don't get a 45/70, I can sell the ammo and still make a profit.

If you're sure you can get your money back (and then some) why not? At worst it's an investment that's probably going up.

I was thinking about buying a few rounds of .50 just because they are huge and cool to look at. Decorate with them haha. Hope I can own a 50 cal someday

I have at least one gun I have no ammo for, but AFAIK, I do not have any ammo that I do not have a gun I can shoot it in.

I have.

After most of the milsurp .308 dried up, I knew at some point I was going to someday own an M1A or other rifle in that caliber. So when I spotted a big batch of lithuanian .308 and good things were said about it, I bought a couple of cases. Common caliber ammo, even if I end up a double-shoulder-amputee at this point I can still sell it a couple years from now for more than what I paid for it. It's a good investment either way, methinks.

Now I have to start accumulating some .223 for the two stag lowers I have yet to build... ; )

I buy the ammo if it is at a bargain price. I usually end up trading it to others if it is in my favor.

I got a lay-away plan on 1000 pallets of 155mm Paladin rounds..........

soon as my ship comes in ;>)

I have. I bought 280 rounds of Lake City .30'06 on enblocs and don't have a Garand yet.
I would be willing to help you out by removing it from the clips and shooting it in one of my Springfields. :)

Yes, and I have three reasons for doing so.

1st, my friends have guns in those calibers, if they share at the range, it's only polite to shoot my own ammo, or to replace what I shoot.
2nd, I have a selection of common caliber ammo for teaching purposes. I'm no instructor, but I have introduced a few new or potential new shooters to the sport. They appreciate the crash course in calibers, mm, and gauges.
(most of them are surprised when I show them all the different bullets 9mm in diameter and tell them there's a few more I don't have:evil:)

and the third reason is optimism. :neener:

A wise man once said, "A deal is something you don't need at a price you can't resist." I'd consider it trade fodder, if I couldn't use it.

A joke passing around the gun range,a little time ago was that my wife went and bought some .223 rounds from Chinamart and couldnt return them, and she was talking to one of the range officers mentioning this.So she went into the gunstore section and bought a RRA Entry Tactical .223 so the joke is we've bought ammo first then guns later.

I have, but just because it came in a box of stuff that had other things I was interested in.

There are lots of boxes at flea markets with gun parts and ammo for a very low price.

Yes. I knew I'd restrict my buying of firearms to certain calibers to reduce the possibility of "caliber-creep". It's worked well, although now, with several firearms in any given caliber, it makes the ammunition pile look pretty small.............
