how many carry a 1911 with confidence?

It's not super tight though. The barrel bushing comes off with fingers and the slide will move slightly side to side. Maybe that has something to do with its reliability.

Ya' think??? ;)

Put me in the I love the 1911 camp but carry something else (XD). Under stress I don't want Murphy to show up by not disengaging the thumb safety.

I have absolute condidence carrying my 1911 because that is what I train with.

Love my Sig P239...Love my XD 45ACP compact.... BUT.... My go to, every day carry favorite is the 1911. Specifically S&W 1911 SC .45 ACP in the Commander version..."gotta love it"....and of course my "always gun" my favorite little pocket rocket, Keltec P3AT with hard chrome slide...goes with me everywhere it is legal...:)

I can carry any gun I want.

I carry Kimber Ultras (3 inch barrel), mostly the Tactical Ultra II.
I recently bought the Ultra Covert II. It will probably replace the Tactical as the 1st carry choice.

With full confidence

My usual carry .45 is a Commander. I occasionally carry my 1948-vintage Government Model. These two fill my needs for a street carry .45.

I have other 1911-type Colts and an Argentine Sistema 1927 in which I'd repose similar confidence.

I trust mine with my life, as have hundreds of thousands of military personnel all over the world, in conditions much worse than you are likely to ever encounter.

Ditto.

I carry a selection of 1911s (one at a time, of course........).

I believe what I see, not what I hear. I figure I've got enough rounds down the pipe on a few of mine to rely on them.

The 1911s I carry include a modified Sistema, a modified Colt Compact, and a SW1911PD. I own a few more. They are reliable as well, but not as conducive to carry or I simply chose to not beat them up by toting them around.

I carried a Colt 1911A1 GI reproduction for awhile. It has reliably fed everything I put through it, so I carried it with confidence.

Any pistol I carry is with confidence. I won't carry any pistol that isn't reliable. My usual carry is a Colt 1991 stainless. Although once I had my gunsmith replace the factory trigger and only dry fired it to check it out. Carried around for a week until I went to the range and it would not fire. The smith re-asembled it wrong and the series 80 firing pin block was engaged. He reasembled it correctly and apologized profusely. I ended up replacing the series 80 internals with a series 70. Sometimes is still get cold sweats when I think about it.

When I carry either of my 1911s (one 5" one 3.5") I carry it with just as much confidence as when I carry my XD40. I am confident any I own will go boom until the mag is empty because that's what they do.

Note: I ran nearly 700 rds of FMJ and JHP factory loads and gun show junk through my full size Kimber Raptor II before I toted it around. The only reason I waited that long was because of all the horror stories I read here.

Works for me.

The fact that your gun has been 100% reliable and never had a single FTF or FTE should mean more to you than stories from people you don't know, using guns you haven't seen

If that doesn't say it all, I don't know what does......

i have a springer champion tho i dont carry it every day if it was my only firearm i would not hesitate to do so i choose lighter weapons for the most part.

I have had good luck with several 5" 1911 pistols, meaning 100% reliable, or at least, 100% after the first few hundred rounds. Colt, Springfield, Les Baer. Kimber, well, now, that is a different story. After three tries, I will never buy a Kimber again. I was able to get two of them working OK, eventually, but I don't like project guns. No more Colt Commanders for me, either; three up, three down, you're out. My only remaining 1911, a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special, has earned my confidence, with no failures to feed or extract since round one. There have also been no failures to properly engage the grip safety, which is of course a human failure, due to my skinny hands, but even my human failures enter into the confidence equation. I believe the combination of the extended grip safety, narrow grip panels, and the way Les Baer contours the frames to sit lower in the hand, make a perfect fit for me.

I've got a couple of 1911 pistols I have complete faith in, but I carry something smaller.

I've owned others that I would completely trust for paperweights!

5" Springfield GI heavily modded and customized (by me) every day...if I have pants on it's there...if not it's on the nightstand. Carried this one about 19 months so far and put over 4K rounds through it. So yup...I trust it and know how it ticks. I built it asw a cheap beater 1911...it just kinda stuck. Some guns are like that after 40+ hours of work-LOL

Historically I've mostly carried glocks other than 1911's
I shoot 1911's better and enjoy them more...but both are good choices....I reccomend GLOCKS and other modern semi's more...it's an easier simpler starting point. But sooner or later most serious shooters gravitate towards a 1911 or two....some stay there....some in addition to other trusted pistols. Plenty of people have and will use them to great effect for their intended purpose. From target shooting and plinking to self deffense it's hard to beat a good one in the right hands.

All things being equal I'd rather have an AR in my hands if I had to "use one" for other than plinking...but there's no pistol I'd rather have...GLOCK would be a close second...I've owned 6 last count...several would be right up there with my 1911.
