How many magazines?..

How many mags do you own?

Oh, I wish you hadn’t asked this as it made me stop and think about just how many feeding devices I had laying around. It’s well past 500 and probable over 600. But then breaking it down on a per gun basis it’s not too bad.

This includes:
Over 250 loaded grand clips and another 25 – 30 empty
100+, .45 ACP Moon Clips. (for 3 guns)
60+ AR-15 (for 5 guns)
50+ AK-47 including several 75 rd drums (for 4 guns)
50+ 1911 mags (for 11 guns)
20 CZ-75 mags (for 2 guns)
20+ 9mm BHP mags (for 4 guns)
And between 4 and 10 for each for the remaining 33 guns.

12 or 13 Makarov magazines to cover 3 Maks.

Most for a single gun, 8 (as of yesterday, thanks to a THR seller) of the high quality but expensive factory magazines for the Ruger .45 (you 1911 people have it good, you know that), which I think is adequate.

Nothing else comes close. I'm working on it.

If you can make an accurate count in less than a couple of hours, you can't possibly have enough mags. I have mags that slipped my memory till I started reading the post from other roaders.
P.S. No AR-15 collection is complete without at least (2) 100 rd Beta mags. :neener:

Pistols, I'm a bit short. I have seven for my CZ-75, and twelve for my Glock 35 (although I really only use the five 20-rounders.) Oh, and six for my Pardini.

I figure that six magazines is a good minimum. Any fewer than that, and I spend more range time reloading mags than shooting.

For my Colt Series 70 Mark IV 1911 Govt Model:

1 factory mag.
1 stainless mag, unknown company, smoothest 1911 mag I have ever used.
1 cheap 8 rounder my dad gave me.
1 10 round CMC.

I absolutely love the CMC, it has already had about 300 rounds through it and it is soooo easy to load, even the 10th round.

I plan to buy at least five more of those.

On the note of Beta C mags, I think one, just because, would be enough. I prefer sticks over drums.

Back to the original topic, I keep at least four magazines for all my bottom-feeders. If they're single stack 1911s, they're fed by wilsons. I have two compacts and two fullsize, although I dont know exactly how many I have for each gun, I know the only one I only have four for is my mil-spec, they are armor-tuffed black. I also have about 20 or so GI magazines from ammoman, and one or two from various other brands (Chip, mec-gar, etc).

wow. Didnt realize people had that many for a single gun. How many do you actually take to the range when you go.

(I have about 50 sks stripper clips myself, so yea moon clips dont count.)

I keep at least three for each autoloader. Four or five for the ones that get or may get used for IDPA. It's hard not to buy every inexpensive standard capacity magazine in sight after the sunset of the assault weapons ban. Those were dark years.

I don't spend a lot of money on magazines because it impedes my progress on buying more guns.

I have 11 Glock 17 full cap mags. I have 18 1911 mags a mix of wilson and cobra mags with a few metlaform. 10 mags per gun is a good number. Not that you will ever use that many but if some break you have replacements.

It all depends on the gun!!
I own seven Makarovs and have many many of mags for them. The Makarov was my first carry gun as well.
I own two Glock 26s and also have a plethora of mags for them!!
I have many mags for my first 9mm carry pistol: Ruger P95.
I only have three mags for my BHP, But I seldom carry it.
I only have three mags for my G23, but I just got it.
It all depends!! ;)

Pistol:
Most: 36 8rd mags for my 3 Makarov's (triple the value now)
Least: 2 15rd 40 S&W ($40 each for more)

Rifles:
Most: AK-47 (no suprise there)
Least: Ruger Mini-14
(whatever mags it came with, has not been out of the safe in over a year)

I own one speed loader for my S&W 640 and three magazines (17 rounds) for my GLOCK 17. I got the speed loader for qualification purposes and I am used to training with three magazines with any semi-auto.

I follow advise from JR...

...At least as much spent on magazines as the price of the weapon. (For full autos I assume.)
I haven't got nearly that many, but if I had any full auto stuff, it would be guaranteed.
20 for the M-14.
30 or so 7-round for the 1911.
15 full-cap (13, 15, 17rd) for the BHP.
20 for the Makarov.
30 for the UZI (25rd)
10 for the CZ-75. (six more on order)
10 speed loaders each for the GP-100, Taurus 94, and 686.
Stripper clips, etc, is getting a little silly. I can fill a .50 cal ammo can with .308 on stripper clips, and still have five bandoliers left, full.
It's silly to waste good range time loading mags, when I could do that in front of the TV, or reading a book. I go to the range with loaded mags, and come back when they're empty. (minus the ones for the carry gun, of course.)

There's no such thing as too many magazines in good working order.

I wholeheartedly agree with that statement. I tend to look for bargains (Bought three good magazines for my P90 at a pawnshop for 10 bucks for the three of them), but the more the better, provided they work.

I've only got one handgun. My Springfield Armory XD-40. And I have 3 mags for it.
I'm planning on getting a Kel-Tec in 40sw for a concealed weapon as soon as I can afford it.... But even for that, I don't want any less than 3 mags.
I think I just like the #3 :D

Bunches of Browning mags...that's my only 'hi-cap' pistol so I think I tend to buy them when I find a good price.

For some reason I ended up with 4-6 speed loaders for my Magnum Carry.

Rifle magazines... that's a different story.

The way I feel about it - - -

No firearm that requires a detachable magazine or a clip for proper function is complete without at least one of those items. In other words, it is silly to offer a Glock 19 and two magazines, say, unless there are two in addition to the one in the pistol. Typically, new Glocks are packaged with one spare mag. An M1 Garand is incomplete without at least one en bloc clip. An M1A, HK91, or FN FAL is not a functioning firearm unless it has a detachable box magazine.

An SMLE or 1903 Springfield, though, will work fine without stripper clips, though the military efficiency is badly compromised.

Few revolvers require clips to operate properly, and I know of none that require a speedloader. Which being said, I usually have my spare ammo in Bianchi Speed Strips when I carry a small revolver.

All that aside, I have no firm idea the total number of spare magazines, stripper clips, and speed loaders I own for my various firearms.

One extra for both my Savage Scout and Enfield No. 4 Mark 1, though both are easily loaded without removing the detachable magazine.

One extra for a few pocket pistols that I seldom carry.

M1 carbine mags, perhaps a dozen, 15 and 30-round.

AR15, about twelve, 20 and 30-round.

M1A, about six 20-round and one five round.

1911 series, maybe 20 in seven- and eight-round, plus one spare six-round for an OACP.

Browning High Power, ten full capacity in 9mm, and four in .40 S&W.

Glock 19, six full cap and two ten round.

Best,
Johnny
