How many similar guns do you own

Four 1911's, Colt, Kimber and S&W X2. One Smith has combat sights, the other adjustable target. Seven Glocks, 3 of them are G-19's, but they are all different, black, green and brown. The others are G-26, G-17, G-20 and G-21. Three N frame S&W's. Two 629's, 3" and 4" along with a 4" model 28. I also have 4 others. While there are several similar sets, no 2 are exactly alike.

I know I don't NEED all of them. But most could be easily sold for more than I paid. I also have 2 kids and several young grandchildren. I actually have purchased many guns, rifles and shotguns included, over the years in pairs so I can leave one similar type gun to each of my kids one day.

1. Laws have changed.
2. Self Defense Guns have Changed.

20 years ago I could have never found a poly 12 ounce 380 that was reliable for Conceal carry in the summer.

30 years ago there weren't many 9mm poly single stacks that were reliable.

When I was 14 (30 years ago) no one had a conceal carry license.
24 years back you had to beg the judge to let you carry a firearm.

I own a lot of similar guns. However none are identical. For example. The 3 Commander sized 1911's I have, ones a LW, ones a 4" steel frame w/bull barell, the other is a CCO. Same with the multiple beretta 92's, multiple Glocks, multiple Rutgers, multiple S&W's. Etc. etc. etc.

I only carry the Commander sized 1911's and a PPK occasionally when I wear shorts and a T.

I am down to only 10 Makarovs, 3 East German, 4 Russian, and 3 Bulgarian. Also have 14 similar FEG's in various calibers.

I decided, for fiscal reasons, to go to one caliber -- 9mm (I have reloading gear for that caliber, too).

I have three pistols in that caliber. Two of them are very close to being alike, an M&P 9c and an M&P Shield. I did that for a kinda silly reason. Flying with a pistol is a large pain in the tail, so I got a 9c to live here with me and a Shield to live in the cabin in the mountains. I can hop a plane, fly to the mountains, head out to the cabin, and pull the Shield outta the safe. Easy.

The third one is a SIG P938 that I have because it followed me home one day, and I like it. Its been a great piece so far -- well on its way to being my favorite.

I have a couple of rifles, too, but they don't count.

I only have 2 sets of duplicate caliber pistols.

Dan Wesson RZ-10 Razorback 10mm
Fusion Firearms Long Slide Hunter 10mm
RIA TAC II 10mm (Soon to be delivered)

Ruger Superblackhawk .44 Mag
Pietta .44 Cap and ball black powder

I also have a Sig Sauer 1911 .22 LR ordered to go with my Browning Buckmark .22

That said I have a SLEW of different caliber pistols, just no repeats.

How many 1911's is enough?
A question to which there is no answer. But I have 3 and am looking another one.

One guy has over 2500 on display and a warehouse for of parts guns and trading guns.

I've got 4 that I regularly carry usually based on what I'm waring or where I'm heading or both. Two full size, one 9mm and one .45 as well as a M&P 9c, a PPS, and for really concealed an LCP .380. Upps, I guess that's five not four.

I have many duplicates, because I have 2 sons. I got my C&R, many of you know what that leads to. If I got something I really liked, or knew was soon to be unavailable, or at least much more expensive, I'd often get another. They haven't showed much interest, but if they do later on, they'll each have quite a nice little collection. If not, I've got spares for parts. I also own many more than I had ever envisioned, because we live in a time when the ability to acquire at will is under constant threat.

Two Glock 9mm's (G19 and G17). Two RIA 1911A1's (Match and Tactical). A passel of S&W K-frames and a few J-frames. Started collecting the wheel guns back in the mid 1980's when LEO trade-ins were cheap and plentiful.

Refuse to answer on the chance my wife might read this forum. Suffice it to say that there are several "R" da families, a "R" sa family, and a "S" da family.

A carry gun, a spare carry gun and a spare for my spare is all I "need" but I have more than that. I don't like being without a spare so if I have one gun break down for whatever reason I like to have another and a spare for it. I figure I can make due with that until I get my original fixed. I have rarely had any problems with my handguns but it does happen. I wore out a recoil spring on my Sig P220 for example. But I had a backup so I didn't worry. But that's when I did decide that 2 backups were better because I wouldn't have had time to get another gun ready if my second had broke down on me at that time. I have 5 guns I carry at times with another I could use in a pinch. But I guess I'm more of a long gun person for just shooting fun. I have a lot more long guns than handguns.

I have two Springfield XDM's and four guns based on the CZ75B. I also have two RG23 revolvers that I bought for next to nothing but they were just bought as knockaround guns for shooting snakes and cans with.

I think it is good to have similar guns for different purposes. This is one of the advantages of the Glock family of pistols in my opinion. Either way I duo have similar guns for the various purposes such as CCW or HD or whatever. I also like being able to change the parts out as needed and using the magazines of the larger gun.

I once heard an owner of timber lands asked if he intended to buy all the property in the country. He replied that he only wanted to buy the land that was next to his (perpetually).

I want to own and shoot EVERY handgun. Financial limits mean I can't do it all at one time though. I like older guns, gun models with interesting history, and guns that need some work. So far I have nine pistols in 9mm's, two in 9x18mm, & three each in .380acp & .25acp, plus three .38spl revolvers. Not counting the century old .22 short revolvers. And you excluded long guns at the start.

I gotta sell some so I can buy some others!

Well since the original question did not specify long or short gunz, just gunz I'll add my pile to the mix. :neener:
For long gunz I have about(?) 65 K98k Mausers, 15+ G/K 43 rifles, 9 or 10 Garands, 5 M1 Carbines and a couple of 03 type Springfields. Also have 3 or 4 shotguns, but no duplicates.
For hand gunz I have 60+ P.38s, 4 or 5 Lugers, 3 Browning HPs, 3 or 4 Makerovs and several others of which I only have one each.
Some of the above are shooters, but most are part of my military weapons collection.
Oh, I almost forgot - I have 9 MP 40s and 6 or 7 MP 43/44 family weapons. Some are shooters, but most are in the collection. Also have several others that are singles including a couple of Mortars.
More than likely I'll add several more to this pile as I find something I don't have!!!
Does that answer the original question????

This is strictly geared towards "carry guns", not competition or hunting weapons. How many defensive pistols, do you think it really make sense to try and be proficient with.

It has been said that a man can never have too many books, too many bottles of wine, nor too much ammunition.

But when it comes to handguns used for self-defense, I would think it necessary to own at least three, because "two is one, and one is none"... and then a backup for your backup.

:)

I have more than I need, many of which are similar. I probably only need 2, but I don't spend money on things such as expensive cars, clothes or at bars, so these are my toys. I have a great time shooting with my oldest son and will bring my youngest when he's old enough.

I strongly believe in the wisdom of redundency in defensive guns, CCW & HD pistols, as the police will take them for evidence should they ever be used, leaving one defenseless without prior planning. I also believe a "spare for the spare" is yet further wisdom.

I don't feel the need to own one of everything, but having a backup for those I deem essential just strikes me as good common sense.
