Let say you have a Pro Carry as a CCW, aside from the 8 rds in the gun, do you carry one or two more mags as back up? How many rounds you prefer to have. A guy I met said he carries a Govt 5 incher with only one full load mag and no extra. Asked why, he said he only needs one as the first two rounds fired is a dead perp. He has 6 more in hand to shoot the 2nd or 3 rds perp.

he said he only needs one as the first two rounds fired is a dead perp.

That is a dangerous assumption on many levels that I'm sure you already know.

That being said, it depends on what I'm carrying but I'll usually carry at least one spare mag on me and have anywhere from 5-8 extra mags in the car. I'd rather have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

How many rounds do you carry

One hi-cap in my Glock 19 and 1 spare hi-cap on my belt. Not only for the extra ammo but also an extra mag, just in case the first one goes south.

glock 19(9m) 10rds in weapon 10rd spare, not so much for the extra ammo as for the "drop mag and insert new" for the jam drill. so 20 in total it would be 30 but the great ny has a 10rd max for magazines

I usually carry a full mag with one chambered and one spare mag for whichever semi I'm carrying. Unbelievably no mag laws in WA...yet. If carrying a revolver it's one speed loader or speed strip. Don't think I've ever carried more than one full reload, but always carry a quality folder clipped to the pocket and a blade on my money clip.

I carry 10, 40, or 50. If carrying my Ruger SP-101, 5 in the gun and 5 in a speedloader. If my Glock 23, 14 in the gun and 2 mags of 13 each. If both, then a total of 50.

The quantity in the mag doesn't matter, but you should always carry a spare magazine. Like a tire on a car, it is the weakest link in the chain and the cause of most problems.

You should also have one or two additional magazines stashed in your car, briefcase, desk, etc. Once you have "solved" your initial problem, your day isn't over.

The lack of foresight here is simply mindboggling.

For my Springfield 1911, 8+1 and a reload, minimum. Four or five spare mags in the truck.

Vanilla, What foresight? Forty nine rounds is a lot of offensive shooting. My purpose in carrying is defensive...get me away from a bad situation, not linger and reload. Maybe lifestyle and location have a lot to do with a CCW reload requirement, but ordinary civilian, go to work, go to church, spend a day at the park types shouldn't ever need that much fire power. I can't recall hearing of a shootout of such magnitude. Probably, I would guess, 99% of all civilian gun altercations involve just a few rounds. That would be a very interesting study to compile from crime reports.

Forgot to answer the original question...one mag,one in the chamber, seven rounds.

Let's see: 16 in the G20, + 17, + 17 = 50.

More for balancing the belt than having extra mags/rounds on hand though. Just having a pistol on my belt seems to fatigue me more than having something to balance the load, even though it means more total weight.

Ah. Chuck Norris wannabe / action hero wannabe / mall ninja.
Because he of course CAN NEVER MISS!

That's a good way to be dead.

Depends. Sig P239 - 8+1 in the gun, and a spare mag, so 17 rounds. If I carry my snubbie, it's 5 and a reload, for 10 rounds.

When carrying my XD 45, I hav 2 extra 13 round mags. This gives me a total of 40 rounds of .45acp.

With my 1911's and 2 extra 8 round mags I have a total of 25 rounds.

With revolvers I carry at least two speedloaders.

KT P11, one in the gun, one spare in a pocket for 21 rounds.

five shot revolver, one speedloader and one 6 round bianchi speed strip for 16 total rounds.

When I carry my .45, everyone tells me it's so powerful and blows such a big hole, I figure all I need is one round, so I leave all the mags at home and just load one up the spout to save weight...:neener:

Between 11 , 11-51, 111, or 122+ depending...

11 if I am carrying my Taurus, 10+1 of 45ACP...
Between 11 and 51 if I am carrying my Glock 23 in .40. 10+1 and multiple reloads(15 rounder in pocket, and or another 10, and 15 in the car).
60 for my PDW, AR-15 pistol wich stays in the car sometimes, usually if I wanna go to the range but don't know exactly what day. Couple boxes of WWB or extra 30's and a 40 round mag probably in the car for it too.

So If I am carrying everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, I could be carrying upwards of 200 rounds in assorted calibers:evil: !! They did say at my concealed carry class, there is no limit on the NUMBER of HANDGUNS or TYPE OF HANDGUNS you can conceal, or the amount of ammo you carry for any of them:neener: ...

PS- Yes it is hard to conceal an AR pistol and it's ammo, but you just have to get creative:D  !!

Minimum of five rounds, in a 442 with no extra ammo.

Maximum of 26, in an XD-45 fully loaded plus 12 rounds in spare mag.

Somewhere in between is 20 rounds of 10mm when I carry a G29 + one spare loaded with 9 cartridges.

The dude you met is, quite honestly, an idiot.

I carry a BHP, so I usually have 13+1 in the gun and an extra 13-round mag. Occasionally I will carry 2 spares (both 13 rounders)... So, my round cound is 27 to 40.

Wes

When carrying the G19, 15 rounds in the pistol, 1 extra 15 or 17 round mag. With the Bersa Thunder .380, 8 rounds in the pistol, one spare 7 round mag.

I have on a few occasions carried the 1911 w/8 rounds in the pistol, and 2 spare 8 round magazines.
