CCW, how many rounds do you carry?

LOL. You haven't seen the video circulating about why school dress codes require a shirt to be tucked in. It is hilarious! The fellow brings out something like 20 hidden handguns PLUS a shotgun!!!!

Sure,I've seen the video of the kid producing several guns. But there's a big difference between layering on clothing and guns AND funcitioning in a society that requires mingling, standing, walking, sitting, etc. without raising suspicion.

Sure, anyone can stand like a model all day loaded down with an aresenal. But how do these people function in their daily lives carrying an extra shoebox worth of gear concealed on their bodies!? Doesn't it raise suspicion?

-Bersa thunder380= 14rds 1mag in 1 out
-S&W Sigma 40VE =20rds 1mag in 1 out
-Taruse 38spl revolver=18rds 6 in 12 in 2 speedloaders out
-1911= 24rds 1 mag in 2 out

I only carry 7 rounds (sometimes just 6 rounds) on 9mm potency with no extras and I feel ok about it. Of course, more rounds are better, but you also have to account for the extra concealment and carrying issues.

When I was a bad shot, I tend to feel better carrying guns w/ more capacity and maybe an extra mag, but I think I can hit COM under stress within the first 3 shots so 6 or 7 rounds allow me to handle 2 or more attackers.

Kimber Ultra Carry 8+1 with 2 8 rnd spares

My everyday wear is two spares in the left front pocket along with a fighting folder. Right front is for keys and cell. Right rear is for wallet and money. Left rear is generally empty. On the belt is a regularly used flashlight. Inside the pants is the 1911, (officers size Kimber Ultra Carry).

Never do I feel revealing or cumbersome with weight. Nor do I feel overly prepared.

Last I remember John Wayne was a GG! Why all this demonizing of John Wayne. Statistically, what ever the real number is, very few of us will ever get into a gun fight. By that logic, carrying a gun for self defense with only one round is John Wayne-ish.

So not to argue over excessive, to each his own.

For the original poster and anyone else who hasn't yet figured out their system...
Try a few different methods. What I've settled on works for me in almost every situation. The car, the house, the job, summer time ,winter time etc.

The only time I change is when I dress formally.

Extra Magazine for Semiauto

I believe that carrying a spare magazine for a semiautomatic handgun is more for magazine failure than for extra rounds. Like many have stated, the need for more than a few rounds is scarce, and some may feel that an extra magazine is unlikely to be used. However, for most of us, our CCW is unlikely to be used as well, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be carried. Of course, you can take the idea to the extreme and have back-ups for back-ups for back-ups...

To each his own, but a little redundancy can go a long way in the battle against Murphy.

Carrying hundreds of rounds on a daily basis, as a civilian, is probably considered on the fringe...
Probably, and even one hundred rounds is a lot to conceal (with 20-round FiveseveN mags, that's four plus the one in the pistol, and most mags don't carry 20). However, being "fringe" is not illegal, and considering we're discussing concealed weapons (and ammo) here, how is this infringing on anyone elses' rights one bit? If someone can and wants to drag around 200 rounds of ammo, let 'em.

I think it would be difficult to function in society with that type of attitude that you are going to be facing the types of danger that require a hundred rounds.
You're making the assumption that people who carry more ammunition than you feel is acceptable are paranoid, schitzophrenic fanatics who see enemies behind every shadow. I can assure you, not everyone who does so is, and the few that are... may in fact have good reason to feel that way. Again, as long as they do not infringe upon anyone elses' rights, where is the crime?

Lest my post be viewed as an attack, I want to set the record straight.

I think you should be able to and WANT you to carry whatever makes you feel safe and comfortable while exercising your rights. If that's a SAW then by all means be my guest.

Having said that we don't live in a society where a SAW is generally practical or necessary for responsible SELF DEFENSE purposes.

Not to try to construe your post as an attack, but I do actually feel the need to question any questioning, if you will. ;) I think a SAW would have been a *very* useful weapon to have in, say, the middle of the North Hollywood bank robbery (I'm aware no one but the bad guys were killed, thankfully). If a law abiding citizen wants to strap a BAR loaded with armor-piercing 30-06 rounds to their back and waltz around town with it, they should be welcome to do it. Mind you, if they ever chance to use it, they'll be responsible for each of their bullets and what they do, for better or worse...

There should be no infringement on the right to bear arms, in my maybe not quite so humble opinion. I tend to think law-abiding folks are not generally a threat. I realize it may seem a bit on the extreme side, but the older I get, the more erosion I see, and not just on the legal front, either, though when society feels a particular way, certain laws that otherwise might not tend to get passed...

Hi Power 15rd Megar plus 2 15rd spares (main carry) or
HK USP 40 Compact 12+1 in pistol plus 2 10rd spares or
CZ 75 Compact PCR 13+1 in pistol plus 2 10rd spares or

Kel Tec P32 Extended rd Mag plus 1 spare

I have 8 in my Pro Carry II and a spare 8 rounder on the belt.

Most of the time I have 1 extra mag for whichever gun I'm carrying unless I'm out in the bush near the border. Then I have 2 spares with me.

When I carry the M-60 I usually drape about 2000 rounds around my shoulders, with a spare 1000 round can on my belt.

Overkill maybe, but when was the last time you were attacked my a hundred yapping Chihuahuas.

I like Chihuahua's and would be happy with a 100 little yappers.

FWIW, whatever main carry I am using there is always an extra mag. Then I always have either a KelTec P32 or Beretta 21 as a BUG. 2 is 1, 1 is 0, that's my opinion.

The REAL issue is this!!!

If you don't have rounds left after surviving a bad situation, you did not follow the Boyscout motto of,"Be prepared",:D :) !

With my Colt Commander .45 I carry a 8rd mag in my gun and 2 8rd mags in my milt sparks IWB mag holder. I beleive that you might as well have it and not need it.

For those of you who have not had the pleasure of viewing the video:

Holy Crap! Lets see, a couple large frame revolvers, a few derringers, a few ring of fire guns, some medium-small semiautos, what looked to me like a Tec-9, and a shotgun.
The real question is: What gun owner let someone borrow their guns for this video that can easily go anti-2A?:what:

Oh and back on topic: Sig P239, 8+1 Golden Sabres, and I keep a spare loaded mag of 8 in my truck. My CCW defense philosophy is, the 9 in the gun get me to the truck, the reload is for later.

Hum CCW it has been a long time since i had felt the urge to carry.

I use to CCW with a Davis 380 auto until I tested it out in the field.
Then I bought a Chinese 45 auto, which was hard to fit comfortably, and shoots horribly with factory loads so I reloaded. Then I decided to carry it Dutch loaded with hardball 230 grains and Glaser safety slugs blue tips. It was too bulky for me to get comfortable carrying.
So I switched to a Walter PPK 380 shoots sweet and nice size and feel.
I Dutch load it as well.
The SWAT person telling you to carry as much as you can carry is dead wrong if you are doing a CCW. Draw your gun and shoot it and you have extra mags on you it could paint you as a blood thirsty killer to a jury.
So lets try this idea, personal protection mace with CS and OC spray in the can ( Not Legal in all states ) carry the gun you feel comfortable with and Mind your surroundings.

The first true weapon in personal defense is the human mind.
Does the location you are in feel right?
Do the moods of the people around you look wrong?
Do you feel stalked? Minding your surroundings will keep you out of harms way more often than you humanly perceive.
The tear gas sprays can create a diversion for you to leave the area if you are threatened to the point of bodily harm.
The gun shooting you best make every shot a hit otherwise, you risk liability.
After all this is not the OK corral where Doc Holiday (known town drunk and gambler) is backing you up with a double barrel shotgun this is today with Houses built too close together out of shoddy materials that bullets pass right on through.
Mind you, Doc holiday was on the side of the gun grabbers as was Wyatt Earp. On the history channel, it was said the whole thing started due to the boys not wanting to give up their side arms because they felt threatened by the Earp’s. The town had an anti gun law banning carrying of firearms with in the town.
If it happened today Virgil Earp, Wyle Earp, His brothers, and Doc holiday would be in jail.
They are not figures to look up to.
Wyatt Earp wound up later being a bloodthirsty man after his brother Morgan Earp was gunned down.
Revenge was his motive and motivator.
Why do we honor them?

That is my thought on conceal carry and the OK Corral!

20 rounds of 10mm in the gun. Why? Cuz Iwant the advantage! And, hell, with 20 rounds of 10mm on tap for typical US scenario work, who needs to carry a spare mag? Although, in LA when the riots hit... i did carry a BAR 30.06 around in my truck... and a Mini 14... and a 12 guage pump... and another guy with a G20... and a CRAP LOAD of ammo and magazines! Hahahahahahaha...

Why I carry reloads.

As you can guess by my name, I carry a 1911. Nine in the pistol (8+1) and two seven round reloads. I actually have a reason, too. The first spare mag is to either get me running after a stoppage or top off after shooting. The second reload is because I have just used up my first spare and need a spare. Remember, two is one and one is none.

As for bad luck and needing a spare to get running again, remember that Murphy lives in your dive bag and is trying to kill you.
