Here's what I got

900someodd .40 S&W (ran out of primers or I'd have 1000someodd)
a few .45s
just shy of 100 7.62x54R
500 .22LR
140 .223 (although I don't own anything in .223)

Enough parts to put together another 200 or so .223

So that comes to a total of 1200someodd.

Heck, point your index finger forward, raise your thumb, point it at a Frenchman, and watch as he pees himself in a rush to surrender.

I'm not sure how much ammo I have. I'll have to take a look in awhile and figure that out.

Minimum Recommended Stash

http://www.alpinesurvival.com/gtg-ammo.htm

This guy says 10,000 rds of .22LR for each so-chambered rifle in the house.

Maybe not a bad recommendation for each of one's fire sticks if you've got the space for 'em. That much ammo is a little hard to physically move if necessary, but if you are preparing to stay put for the duration of the SHTF scenario...

I'm still behind on accumulating that much: I keep shooting the darn stuff!

I'm actually very low. Need to get some cheap .38 Special and 10mm Auto bulk practice stuff, and maybe some fresh 10mm hollowpoints, and... :D

BETER THAN AMMO

I would ask further, better than how much, would be, how much can you make?? I store my brass in 4 1/2 gallon buckets, cleaned, deprimed, polished, and ready to load. Is that a clue since there are over 20.

Hmmm, offhand, I think I have:

600+ 38special
200 32acp
150-200 357mag
100+ 30-06
20 6.5x55 (I'm taking a break from load development now that hunting season is over)
200 12gauge shotshells
80 20gauge shotshells
150 9mm

I have components to load another 300 6.5x55, 400 357mag, and 120 32acp (I could use the 357mag bullets for 38special, but they would be slow 180gr 38's...).

Chris

I remember the first time I bought a brick of .22lr ammo. I thought I was in the big leagues. 500 rounds of ammo! Whoo Wheeee!
I now have the floor of my gun cabinet covered with boxes of bricks of .22, 9 mm, .40 S&W, .223, .308 and .30/06. And I don't even reload.
Oh, yeah, then there is the shotgun stuff...yikes!
I think I need to buy some more guns so I can fire off some of this stuff!

1100 plus rounds of .22lr
100 rounds of .38
100 rounds of .45
150 rounds of 12 gauge
a box of 38+P
1 box of 9mm +P
300 rounds of .308 that last time I checked.

Just in surplus and colectible ammo for firearms I shoot once in a great while I have 10,000 rounds in firesafes. The rest I use and recycle as frequently as possible so it can go from 1-5000 in a hurry. Component wise I have about 5000 rounds as well. I willl buy 1000 rounds if I get a deal onthe drop of a hat. Are we counting shotgun as well because theres another 1000 rounds and 22 rimfire 1800 rounds or so.

Look out france, if you had anything I needed!:D

How much should I have?

Where I live I can only shoot (realistically) at an indoor range. They stock ammo (more expensive, true, but they do have it), so I don't really need to keep my own for my practice sessions.

I have no intention of stocking for TEOTWAWKI, I want to be at ground zero.

So, I keep enough for home defense. But I honestly can't think of a good reason for "stocking up" unless I come by a great deal that won't last.

So, I have about 400 hundred rounds of .45 and shotgun, and maybe a brick of .22.

If ammo becomes generally unavailable in California for the calibers I shoot, then there is no way I could ever stock enough to last me through that. And if it remains available, then why stock up?

I admit I like having a stockpile. But I don't miss it much at times like this when I am low.

Glad the reloaders are including components in the counts. I could make a few more rounds if needed.

Hmmmmm, need more primers.

I'm in the 3k-4k bracket. If you ask my wife, I have too much. Ask my sons, I'm a little "light". As for me...it'll do...for now. ;)
Mark.

Uh oh, now the goberment knews who has 'arsenals.'
Well, I DID make it a poll so folks can "confess" anonymously if they so desire.

I also MEANT to make the post refer specifically to centerfire ammo only. Oh well, that means my vote might be on the low side since I didn't count mine.

I also keep a container of partial boxes. I never count that stuff because I'd have to open every box. If it's not a full box, it doesn't get inventoried.

I'm feeling much better today looking at the results. I'm definitely on the high end, but at least there are some others here as sick (er-- prepared) as I am.

BTW, I'm not stocking for SHTF or TEOTWAWKI either. I have a lot of different calibers (some pretty unusual) and I try to make sure that if I want to go shooting on the weekend I can do it without a big ammo treasure hunt covering all the nearby gun stores.

I need to set up my RL550B--it seems that the reloaders stock less ammo than the non-reloaders. Makes sense...

I can clear 10k easy on centerfire. This is store bought.

I am really starting to get serious on reloading though and the components are nearing the few thousand mark. And actually I expect my next reloading purchases to send things over the 10k limit. Reloaded ammo right now has to be around 3k or so I think.

And I never expected to save money by having cases sitting around, but 308 surplus ammo has gone up in price. Some 223 surplus I bought is either no longer available or higher in price. I also have some 9mm that has gone up about 20 bucks per case of ammo. I don't buy ammo to save money, I consider it my savings account since my bank account earns less interest than this ammo would if I kept the cash in a bank. Of course I won't sell ammo, I prefer to use it as intended by the manufacturer.
